Chapter 1 - Her Life

Adrita's Pov.

I removed the pillow to see if it was there. I removed the bedsheet to see if it was there.

I looked down at the bed to see if it was there. I searched the whole room but didn’t find it anywhere.

"Didi, where are my glasses?" I shout at the top of my voice. ( In Bengali, a person calls his/her elder sister Didi )

"I always tell you to keep your things in the right place but you never listen to me." I hear her voice from her room which is beside my room.

"Didi, my eyes are hurting. Please help me find my glasses." I shouted again and closed my eyes.

I am a fucking blind girl without my glasses. I see everything blurry without it.

I can't live a single second without my glasses.

I heard footsteps and understood that Didi came into my room.

"Where the hell did you keep it?" She asked and I heard some shuffling sounds.

My room is already messed up and she is going to mess it up more.

"It's not here, it’s not even here." I heard her voice beside me.

"I am not able to find your glasses." She said and I opened my eyes but closed them instantly because of sunlight peeking from the big window.

"Now what?" I asked her with frustration.

"Now.... only one person will be able to find your glasses." She said thinking deeply, keeping her hand on her chin.

"Who?" I asked without wasting time.

"Ma." She said and I nodded immediately agreeing with her. ( Ma means Mom in Bengali )

"Ma... ma... ma..." We both were shouting till she appeared in my room.

"What happened? Why are you both shouting early in the morning?" She asked, showing her annoyed face as she came running while she was doing house chores!

"Adrita, why is your room so untidy? Clean it quickly." She said sternly and I pouted.

"Ma, I will do it but first help me to find my glasses. Didi isn’t able to find it either." I said, whining like a baby.

"Akriti, I didn’t expect this from you. Adrita is already turning blind, looks like you are losing your eyesight too." Ma said to Didi shaking her head.

"Ma, what are you saying?" Didi asked, not able to understand her words.

"Here are the glasses." Ma said and pulled out the glasses from my t-shirt's neck.

Then I remembered that I kept it there before sleeping. I wore the glasses and started laughing at my Didi.

She slapped my shoulder, getting annoyed.

"Don’t laugh. I didn’t notice it because I just woke up from my beauty sleep." She said yawning and getting out of my room.

"Clean the room and also clean yourself. You are looking like a clown." She said and got out of the room with the spatula which she brought from the kitchen.

I looked at myself in the mirror.

Shit! I am looking like a clown.

I quickly cleaned my room and kept all the things in the right place. I went to the bathroom to take a refreshing shower.

I stood in front of the mirror which is in the bathroom. I started brushing my teeth and started thinking about my beautiful life which I do every day.

Wait a second!

I didn’t give my introduction to you guys.

I am Adrita Das. I am nineteen years old. I am going to be 20 tomorrow because it's my birthday.

My dream is to become a fashion designer and a model.

I am very short, my height is only 5.2 feet.

I am not beautiful but cute because I have a mole on the right side of my forehead and I have a dimple on my cheeks. I get only one compliment and that is I am cute.

I belong to a typical Bengali family. We live in Kolkata.

My mom and dad are the best parents in the world and my sister is the best sister in the world.

Yeah, it's another fact that she can be annoying sometimes but I don’t mind. She is three years older than me.

Our family is rich but not that rich. We have our own house and also a car.

I think that's enough introduction. Keep reading to know what happens next. ( Winking )

I took a shower and came out of the bathroom with a towel. I opened my closet and took out an off-shoulder top and a long skirt.

I brushed my wet hair and then exited my room to have breakfast. I went to the dining hall and sat in one of the chairs.

Dad entered the hall with the newspaper in his hands as usual.

"Good morning, Baba." I said with a big smile. ( Baba means Dad in Bengali )

"Good morning." He said and sat beside me and concentrated on the newspaper.

Today is Sunday so it’s a family day. Didi also came and sat in front of me.

Soon, ma came with the dishes and kept them on the table. It’s Dosa, my mouth getting watery. ( Dosa is a South Indian dish )

"Wow, ma. Thanks for making my favorite dish." Didi cheered and started eating.

"Very wrong, ma. You made the favorite dish of your elder daughter. What about me?" I whined again like a baby.

"Someone is jealous." Didi smirked and I rolled my eyes at her.

"Stop your drama." Ma said and went to the kitchen.

I pouted looking at her retreating back. Suddenly she came back with another dish in her hand and it was nothing other than Pav Bhaji, my favorite.

"Ma, you are the best." I said and started eating.

It tastes so delicious. We had our breakfast with a funny conversation.

I went to Didi's room to do some gossiping with her but I saw that she got herself busy talking to her loving boyfriend Hardik. I lay down on her bed to relax until she is done with her talking.

They have been in a relationship for five years. They are so much in love with each other.

Hardik is such a sweet guy though I have talked with him only a few times, I know that he is a good guy. After like thirty minutes of waiting, she hangs up the call.

"Adrita, did you forget that tomorrow is your birthday?" She raised her eyebrows, asking something impossible.

"No one can forget their birthday. Especially me." I sighed thinking about my past birthdays.

My birthday is the best and worst day of the year.
