ВойтиI had served the muffins, and settled next to Adam, interlocking my finger with his. I notice that they're sweaty, and he's jittery. His attention is on his phone, and he appears withdrawn and uninterested in whatever we had to say.
Figh off the urge to probe, I turn my attention on our guest. I'm already regretting the proposal I made to his father. I struck my own heels and caged myself in this dilemma the moment I proposed the marriage. How could I tell he would take it?
“ You have a beautiful home,” Luthor spoke softly to Adam moments after we settled down.
Adam returned his compliment with a smile, looking around as if he hasn't been in this house for the past three years of our marriage.
Curiosity tossed a coin, and I chose the face of the coin marked as probe.
“ How did you two meet?” I asked my Adam, avoiding Luthor’s gaze. It randomly sweeps over me, tearing my attention away from the moment to settle on that night.
I haven't forgotten that night. I wish I have, but if feels ingrained within me in such a way that his mere presence has driven intense heat between my legs. My knees knock. My heartbeat paces every second our eyes meet. Anything that can take him off my mind for a moment is greatly accepted. I can't help it much longer.
“ Well, we met in Vegas, on a holiday trip,” he takes over the question before Adam even started, but for some reason, it seems he's recapping the event of our meeting.
“ Son of a b*tch!” I thought, balling my fist.
“ It was clearly his first time,” he said with a thin smile, and reverted his gaze to me. “ Everything was new to him. You know how the company forces people to go on paid vacation? Well, that's it. We wound up on an island and partied until dawn.”
Ahem!
I coughed, beating my chest to dislodge something nonexistent.
But it wasn't just me.
Adam did as well.
He gets up to take a phone call, excusing himself with a brisk wave.
I grabbed the chance, and met Luthor’s gaze, cold and unyielding. “ Why are you doing this?”
He let out a humourless smirk
“ You!” He mouthed, and took a long sip of his wine, eyes nestled on me. The wine feels like a metaphor of myself. Consumed by him, down to the dregs.
“ Whatever you are thinking, you have to stop it. Don't ever come back to my home.”
“ Why?” He queried, detached and aloof, almost like my words mean nothing to him.
“ I am married and whatever happened that night was a mistake.”
“ Was it?” He asked, dropping the glass with a notable gentleness that flared my nerves even more.
This is not the young man I slept with that night. Something about him has changed completely. His shoulders are more defined, and his eyes carries a cold calculating ray that commands immediate attention. And his haircut leaves the sides of his hair lowered just like in the army. Everything about him exudes a captivating aura that spirals my hormones back into heat.
Adam is taking longer than expected, and I'm stuck with my former colleague , who's seating here like he owns the whole place, including me.
He gets up and loped to my side. I scoot away from him on the sofa, heartbeat striking over the roof of my head.
What if Adam walks in on us? What am I gonna say to him about this?
I get up, but he grabs my wrist. “ You were my first, Moraine. My very first woman. Surely, you don't think it was a mistake to me.”
I shrugged his hands off, steadying my heartbeat, but that night returns to my thoughts.
His hands on my laps, parting my thighs, and sinking in his fingers like I belonged to him. The torrential kisses, passionate and hungry, leaving hickeys in the wake of his touch. The urgency in his eyes. The desire burning from his hold on me while I rode him under the influence of liquor.
Every kiss, every touch, every thrust. I remember them like it was just yesterday.
“ You should leave,” I said, ready to bolt in search of my husband, Adam.
“ That's discourteous, Moraine. I'm certain Adam would be worried if he finds out I'm gone or better still, you chased me out of his home.”
I chuckled dryly, speechless. He's stirring the waters, and skillfully too.
I sit, and cross my legs, ignoring his presence before me.
Until I felt his eyes looming over my chest. It makes the fold of my skin burn between my thighs.
“ This is not happening,” I thought, holding my glass to the tip of my tongue. He settles back on his seat, and poured himself a drink. Just then, Adam comes down in a hurry. Dressed, and ready to leave.
“ Honey!” I gasped, more from the fear of being left alone with Luthor than of being without him.
“ Something urgent came up. I have to run now. Please, take care of our guest. I will be will be home before nightfall.”
“ Uhmm…isn't it best he leaves with you? You both are clearly inseparable.” I added, feigning a smile. Luthor returns my smile, but Adam quickly protested.
“ It's too much that I am in a hurry to leave right now. We don't want to make him feel unwelcome, do we?”
I smile and sighed. He kissed me briefly on the lips. He turns to Luthor and gives him a handshake. “ Stay around. I won't be gone for too long,” he said and dashed out of the house. Frozen in place, I listened for the departure of his car. But I wasn't waiting alone.
The second the gate was shut, Luthor dropped the glass, and strode towards me. “ You were saying?”
“ This is madness, Luthor Kingston. You're my colleague…”
“ I was,” he said, gawking at my full cleavage. “ Now, I want to correct that record.”
“ Don't you dare come close to me…”
“ Or what?”
I huffed, chest rising in frustration. “I feel like slamming my fists into your guts right now,” I threatened. He smirked, eyes shimmering with rays of amusement. “ Wouldn't that be lovely. I was beginning to wonder where I should start. Would you like me to go from behind?”
Slap!
I didn't think twice before doing that, but it was satisfying watching him wince in pain for a mini second.
“ I'm married,” I reiterated.
“ Apologies, but you didn't mention that when you took my virginity.” He flatly replied.
It burns in my brain. A surge of guilt overcomes me. He was twenty three at the time. Although I could argue that we were both adults, I had acted under the influence of alcohol. I only realised my folly when I woke up to his body by my side on the beach and had to take him back to my tent before leaving.
“ Listen Luthor, it wasn't planned and you know it. I'm sorry that we went down that road, but you have to face the fact that I'm years older than you and married too.”
“ And?” He quizzed, eyebrows raised.
He's so close now that I can feel the whip of his breath on the ridge of my nose.
“ Luthor, don't do this. Please…ahhh!”
He nibbled my earlobe, hand slithered around my waist and the other groping my breast. Hot shivers rushed down my spine. My lips parted in a breathless moan, urging his hands to fondle me.
“ I know you want me…”
“ I don't,” I mumble, struggling to clear my head. He pins me back against the chair, and rubs his bulge on my hip. “ Liar!”
“ You can't deny it. You have longed for this day your whole life.”
I feel the throbbing heat from the contact. Emotions swirls in my head, his hand tightens around my right breast, fondling me like I'm his play thing.
“ How did I end up locked in his arms again?” I quizzed myself, but the effect had taken root, and my hand had begun to search for the zipper.
“ There you are,” he guided my hands. “ Hold me like you once did. Give me everything you once gave me, Moraine. Let me in.”
“ Luthor, please. My husband.”
His hand travels from my waist to my skirt, lifting the hem to my thighs. “ What about him?” He drones, letting himself free.
“ I can't do this to him again,” I mouthed in between shallow gasps, seeking an escape.
“ Ohh,” he detached completely, leaving me gasping for breath. “ Shall I take the pleasure to inform him of our memorable holiday?”
“ Or, should I inform my father first?”
“ How crazy can he be?” I queried myself at first. On one hand, I hadn't understood why a female lead in a movie would be my stunt double. Doesn't make sense! On the other hand, the comment about our resemblance had begun to sink in. I didn't notice, but my mind became a chaotic struggle between why he used someone that looks like me, and why I'm needed at all if he already had a replacement for me. But above all, I had begun to think about the deal: it can't be good. And it was confirmed. Crystal clear.“ I knew it!”Luthor wouldn't make me an offer if it would be easy to execute my part of the bargain. “ How could I be so stupid?!” I thought, and face palmed right after I had thrown the script at him. With the room full, and my presence unwelcomed, the action garnered more attention than a record breaking victory would. Eyes turned my way with a combination of disapproval, disdain and an unmistakable line of " get lost" boldly inscribed on foreheads that furrowed in fine annoyan
“ What's the meaning of this?” I snarled, recognising the exact time and day the record came from.“ Let me see…uhhmmm…that there, to you, means a mistake. But not to me. It was the best moment of my life. You fucking took my virginity, Moraine! You can't just act like nothing happened between us…”“ How come?” My voice dropped in my own ears with a discernible tremor, ignoring what he has just said, with my heart writhing in a blend of anger and panic. He has us on tape. Not just any tape. That's like a full video. Throat blocked, like a clog in a drain, I strained to get my saliva down in a gulp. I feel my hands tremble, while my gaze remains steady, fixed on him.“ How come…how's it even possible —”“ My bodycam. I had it on while you were riding me to the clouds, too distracted to notice. Even I didn't know until recently. I thought you would like to be reminded of what it felt like being with me since you seem to suffer a memory loss.”I bit the corner of my lips, my anger dissi
“ What kind of devil are you?!” I got up, and strutted away, but he grabs my hand before I could make it past him. “ You don't want me, and you don't want me to be with another. What kind of a witch are you?”Fists clenched, muscles stretched, I fumed inside, biting my lower lips. “ What? Have you lost your tongue?” He scowled, but the next second, he leaned in to kiss me. I push him away and smacked his cheeks. Twice. “ This is your father's home. Show some respect to him. How can you bring a woman here to sleep with her…”“ Corrections, Moraine. I merely invited her over. She's not here yet. Why are you burning red?”I hissed and kicked off his hands, and flounced back to my room. The second I shut the door, my knees buckled. That graze of his hand against me. His firm hold around my wrist. It had lit a fire that threatened to consume me right there. I could only mask it with anger. But just when I thought it was over, he knocked. “ Come on, Moraine. Let me in.” “ Go away!”“ Y
I flatlined for a moment. He wouldn't stoop so low. But how can I confirm the truth when Luthor is gone to God knows. The whole night in the bougainvillea was like time in a slow motion. I stirred in discomfort, tossing from one end of the bed to another. My throat is dry from swallowing more often. My mind is afloat.I keep telling myself Alexander knows about his son and I. And then I would stir from deep brooding of whether his sudden mission abroad is a set up as well.I got up and paced in the room, walking from one corner to another. A quick insight would gush in and I would spin and begin all over. By damn, my makeup was askew, hair disheveled, and mood mess up and revolting. I had two options. Either I returned to the house, or I remain here and avoid Luthor until his father returns. I'm still contemplating on my best bid when a knock comes, and Luthor let himself in before I could get a dress over my lingerie I had won to bed.“ Oh god,” he gasped, and combed his hair backw
Her first question whipped my senses, and stormed right into my deepest darkest thoughts. The image of Luthor and I on the beach flashed before my eyes. Her hand is coiled around his elbow, like a possessive girlfriend. Her eyes drifts between us as we stand across each other, glowing with mischief, a sly smile plastered on her lips, tilting a corner. I followed her gaze without flinching. But my legs had grown hot in the platform heels I'm putting on. She had called the rule in a breath. Suspecting the mischief glittering in her eyes and smile, I chose truth, because of the onlookers. Murmurs quickly spread.“ This is definitely going to be interesting,” someone chimed happily behind me.“ For real. Can't wait to see where this goes.”I roll my eyes. It's not the first time I'm in the midst of a crowd that can't wait to pull someone apart with wild sentiments and pick the pieces still. For several reasons, beads of sweat have begun to form at the back of my neck, yet, I stood right
My breath catches in my throat the same time I noticed a spike in my heartbeat. I felt every thing around me take a pause. My fingers are twitching. My muscles are contracting painfully, but I need to stay calm. Any image of me this way: broken, unsure, out of character; will go viral like a Guinness world record holder. Only that mine would be a mess to talk about.“ How did you find out?” I spoke flatly, keeping my stirring emotions under check, and my gaze even. “ Does it matter how I knew? The best thing you ever did or yourself was escaping from Declan Mount.”“ How did you know?” I repeated, this time, a little more colder than before, triggered by his avoidance of the question. He sniggered, looking around while randomly raising his glass in the direction of whomever raised theirs to him. “ You may not know, but I know a lot about you than you could possibly tell…” I gripped his tux before he could step away from me. My hand had moved reflexively before I had the chance to re
