As we pull up to Gloria’s diner, I feel happy and safe. Derrick made a big scene this morning and it was embarrassing. Ok, so maybe I yelled first but we had even talked about him calling me Annie or a charity case when I tutored him at his villa. The fact that he would say that to someone we don’t even know well, hurts.

The yellow building with orange flowers is beautiful and I look at Terry as he smiles, “This is great!” I say. He reaches for his door handle, “This is one of my favorite places to eat.” He gets out of the car, and I follow him.

Gloria’s diner is in the middle-class part of town. It’s not super fancy but it has charm and if I’m paying, I know I can afford this place. Not only did Terry pick a charming diner, but he thought of me when he did so. I invited him to lunch but was too flustered to choose so he picked a place that was beautiful and in my price range- that is so sweet.
