Chapter 1
Raven's Pov
I came back from school feeling pissed and exhausted. My uniform was stuck to my skin with sweat and my backpack felt heavier than usual, all I wanted to do was throw myself on my bed and sleep but the second I stepped into the house, I knew something was wrong.
My mother was packing and panic licked her entire face and I've never felt so confused because I left her in a good condition where she complained about not eating enough breakfast.
Now she wasn't just packing, she was in a frenzy, stuffing clothes into suitcases as if we were being chased out.
My stomach dropped in dread as my heart rammed in my ribcage. “Mom? What the hell is going on?”
She didn’t stop nor did she even look at me. “We’re leaving.” She blurted out rasping and avoided my gaze like a plaque.
My heart pounded as the first thought hit me like a freight train. “Is it Dad? Is he out of jail?”
Her hands froze for a second before she shook her head. “No, Raven. This isn’t about him. We just have to leave baby, get your things now!”
I felt a little relief, but not much. My father was the worst thing that had ever happened to us. He used to beat my mom senselessly and locked her in the closet while I sat outside and listened to her cries. He was finally arrested for drugs, and the day the cops took him away, he had looked me dead in the eyes and said, I’ll be back for you. I had nightmares about that moment for years.
“So why are we leaving?” I asked her, watching her throw my clothes into a suitcase now.
Mom took a deep breath and faced me. “I got married, baby.”
Silence.
It was too quiet except for the beat of my heart before I blinked at her because maybe I had misheard or misunderstood her. “What?”
“I got married, Raven. My husband, your new stepfather, is waiting for us in Velmora and we can't waste a second.”
My stomach twisted and I laughed. “You’re joking.”
“I’m not.” She zipped up a bag. “And we don’t have much time. The chauffeur will be here soon.”
Rage bubbled up inside me. “You’re seriously making me leave my life here? My friends? My boyfriend? And for what? Some guy you barely know?” I yelled at her walking around the room like a maniac to stop her from going anywhere but to talk to me.
Mom sighed and rubbed her temples. “I do know him and this is the best decision for us.”
“For you, maybe.” I scoffed hard. “What about me mum? Did you even ask if I wanted this!”I yelled in anger, biting back the salty taste in my tongue and the burning tears at the corner of my eyes.
She looked at me there and I knew there was something tired in her eyes, something desperate. “I need you to trust me honey, please.”
I clenched my fists as my whole body trembled with frustration. But before I could yell back, the sound of tires screeching outside made me pause.
A sleek black car—no, not just a car. A beast of a vehicle, probably more expensive than our entire house, sat in our driveway. A man who was dressed in a black suit stepped out, opened the trunk, and without a word, started loading our luggage.
Mom grabbed my hand. “Come on Raven, we don't have to.”
I felt like I was in a nightmare. A horrible, twisted nightmare as my feet moved but my mind screamed at me to stop. I was leaving my home, my city and my life.
The second I sat inside the car, silent tears slid down my cheeks and I cried the whole way to the airport.
--
Velmora wasn’t just another country. It was another world entirely that looked strange.
The moment we arrived, I felt like I had stepped into a medieval fantasy. Castles rose into the sky, surrounded by mountains and forests that looked untouched by animals and the air smelled fresh and crisp, almost too clean compared to the city I grew up in.
But before we even made it to the mansion, Mom had another surprise waiting for me.
“Your new school, common, let's get you registered before we go to the Palace.” she said as we stopped in front of the grandest building I had ever seen.
I stared up at it, my mouth slightly open. “This… is a school?” She smiled and nodded at me.
It looked more like a palace, The gates were made of ancient golden designs, and the massive campus stretched farther than I could see. The buildings were sleek yet elegant and blended classic castle architecture with the latest modern technology.
The students walking around weren’t any less impressive. They were beautiful as every single one of them looked like they had walked out of a high-fashion magazine. Their uniforms were perfectly fitted with a deep purple shirt paired with a lilac pleated skirt for girls and sharp black pants for the boys. The accessories they wore, rings, necklaces, even their bags, screamed money.
I suddenly felt small and Insignificant, Poor and useless as if I didn't belong here.
Mom nudged me. “You’ll start here tomorrow.”
I tore my eyes away from the intimidatingly perfect students and glared at her. “Tomorrow?”
“Yes. But first, we need to go home and meet your stepfather.”
I swallowed hard at “Home”. The word felt foreign on my tongue but the mansion was beyond anything I could have imagined.
The driveway alone could fit a hundred cars and the structure itself was a blend of gothic and modern with towering stone walls, massive windows, and vines creeping up parts of the exterior to give an eerie yet breathtaking feel.
The air smelled of something rich and intoxicating like cinnamon and wine.
And then he appeared, King Devereux of Velmora from what mum told me.
He was Tall, Regal and Dressed in a black velvet suit that fit his broad shoulders perfectly. His long silver hair was tied back, revealing his sharp, chiseled features. His eyes, which were strikingly golden were locked onto me immediately.
“So this is Raven.” His voice was deep, smooth. “Welcome to your new home.”
I couldn’t speak nor even breathe as my eyes were staring at something different, why the fuck does he looks so young?
Mom stepped forward, smiling nervously. “Lucian, this is my daughter. Raven, greet your stepfather.”
My throat felt tight as I said the first word that sounded so blank and stupid. “Hi.”
He studied me with a piercing gaze and smiled. “You look just like your mother.”
I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or not but before I could figure out how to respond, I sensed a movement from the grand staircase which caught my eye. Three figures stood there, watching. Three men.
Raven’s POVThe morning sun filtered through the heavy velvet curtains, casting a warm golden hue across the dining room. I sat stiffly at the long oak table, surrounded by them…my brothers. Well, not by blood….not really yet as it makes me feel uncomfortable to address them that way.Breakfast was laid out like a feast. Roasted meats, fish cooked to perfection, thick sauces in tiny porcelain bowls, and fresh bread rolls that smelled like heaven. Yet, I had no appetite. I pushed the meat away gently. It wasn’t because it didn’t smell good. I just wasn’t a meat type.Cassian looked up from his plate. “Don’t want the meat?” he asked softly, his voice almost too gentle for someone like him.I shook my head.He didn’t wait for more. He reached over with his long fingers and gently swapped my plate with his, now filled with fish. “Try the salmon,” he said. “It’s good.”I didn’t respond, didn’t even meet his eyes. I couldn’t. Not after the way he looked at me last night or the way he touche
Powerful muscles flexed as he moved, working the tongue of his belt through the buckle and panic and instant desire flooded throughout my body.We were in the kitchen, anyone could walk right through now and we'll have a lot of explaining to do. “What do you want, Raven?” My body shivered as he pushed his pants to the floor too, leaving him standing in soft black boxer briefs, his cock straining against the fabric. So precise and controlled. The real him was shimmering under the surface. There was a lie about Caius , a pretense where he lived. Everyone knew it. Everyone saw it, but no one acknowledged it. No one stepped into his darkened room and threw open the blinds, exploring his desires…except for me right now.“You..sh.. should stop, anyone can walk in right now?” “Is that it, what you're worried about and not what you want to see?” I folded my hands around my chest and felt bold. I really wanted to see Caius go crazy too, he was the quiet one watching as if nothing unbother
Raven's POVWhen we returned home, the air felt heavier than usual. . I just wanted to head straight to my room and pretend this entire day hadn’t happened. But no—they were waiting for me in the living room.My stepfather stood at the base of the grand staircase, holding something small and velvet in his palm. It was a box and I slowed down, eyeing him cautiously.“This is for you, you should open it” he said with his tone measured and eyes softer than usual.I hesitated before taking the box from his hand. Inside was a brooch with deep silver, ornately crafted and glinting in the chandelier light with a crimson gemstone at its center. It pulsed like a heart.“It’s the royal badge,” he said, like it should’ve meant something monumental to me. “It marks you as one of us now. A daughter of the house of Velmora.”I stared at it longer than I needed to. One part of me felt… something. Maybe awe or confusion but another part wanted to drop it on the marble floor and walk away.“Your mothe
Raven’s POVI was reeling from the orgasm Dante gave to me, my body still trembled and I hated how I was still sitting this close to him with his expression as if he didn't just watched me naked, his expressions was something to kill for, I wanted to do that again so I could see him fall apart. I hope he doesn't read my mind, through my research process, I discovered that they read minds too.Can he read mine right now? What's he doing? He's smirking, oh God! Dante is smirking right now, looking at the road while driving? Does he thinks this is a fun game? It's fucking frustrating and infuriating.“Do you want to go back to Pack princess, I mean I enjoy all that flushed look but do you like it that much from you to stare at me like I'm cake?” My mouth fell open and I scoffed.“Huh? What's that?”He stared at me and bit his lips before facing the road back again.“Don't look at me like that, it's frustrating I can't get through your mind so it's frustrating that I don't know whether yo
Raven's Pov “As a friend?” he growled, then shifted his gaze to my lap. My body responded, warming and throbbing.Gods, the way he looked at me with frustration…why do I like that he was bothered with the way I've been treating them. I didn’t understand why I was so affected by them, why they seemed to tap into that dark, aching place inside me. He reached out, brushed his fingers along my thigh, and drew my skirt higher. “I’m not your friend Raven… you’re family now,” he murmured, his gaze riveted to my thigh as he exposed it inch by inch. I grabbed the skirt from him, feeling my heart beats in loud drums, yanking the hem down. “I saw you, you know….that diary thing of yours?” My hand stilled, fisted against my leg. He lifted his gaze to mine.“What the fuck Dante!” I yelled in the car, turning to leave but it was locked.“Raven wait.”“You had no fucking right to touch my private belongings! It was private for a reason, fuck you!” I cried out feeling shame burned through the dep
Dante’s POVHer friend was right. We’d spent the last week walking on eggshells around Raven, hoping our regret would undo the past, praying our careful kindness would somehow erase what we’d done. But none of it mattered, not the new room, the gifts, the hovering concern because Raven didn’t want our guiltShe didn’t even want our apologies. She wanted space and we were the last people qualified to give it to her.Yet here I was, standing at her door, still trying.“What now?” she asked, arms folded over her oversized hoodie, her bare legs peeking from beneath.“Get your phone,” I said. Her brow arched. “Why?”“We’re going shopping.” I told her and folded my arms.“For what?”“The Blood Moon Ball and other events to take place.”She scoffed, rolling her eyes so hard I thought they’d stay there. “Right, and I’m supposed to show up wrapped in lace and sparkles like some ornament for the vampires to gawk at just because my stepbrother is suddenly being sweet after showing me hell?”I i
Cassian’s POVWe had never, not once, set foot in the general cafeteria since arriving at Blackthorn University. It was beneath us and crowded, noisy, filled with lowly creatures who either feared us, worshipped us, or were stupid enough to think they could challenge us

Raven's PovThe next morning, the moment I stepped into the classroom, the air changed and a thick tension settled over the room, suffocating me. I could feel the stares, the murmurs, the judgment slicing through my skin like invisible blades. The students' whispers weren’t just quiet remarks; they
