Raven's POV

He stood under the warm, golden glow of the chandelier and tilted his head at me. “So, what exactly were you running from, little human ?”

I blinked, trying to find my voice, but for the first time in forever, I was stunned and speechless, maybe it was the weird mix of beauty and danger radiating from him or maybe it was because I had no clue how to even explain it. “I—uh... everything,” I finally muttered, breathless. “I was running from everything.”

He didn’t press but just walked casually toward the long dining table and sat like this was a damn tea party and not a horror film. He picked up some berries—blueberries, I think—and popped one into his mouth like we were in a Jane Austen novel.

I couldn’t help staring. “Who... who are you? And what are you doing here?”

He grinned lazily, like he’d been waiting for me to ask that all day. “I’m the son they never wanted.”

I frowned. “You mean the King’s son?”
