Chapter 2

Jax

Shit. I'm late. If I miss class again there's no way to save my car from being taken away. Again. I was going to be on time but I saw her in the hallway. Sitting cross legged handing a paper to a freshman. Her long dark hair falling around her face and tiny frame. Her hand catches the corner of her folder and pulls down her sleeve revealing a very dark and unflattering mark on her creamy skin.

I have to focus on pushing my wolf down from the surface. Someone has hurt what's ours, and it's fresh from the way she starts rubbing it pulling her sleeve down making sure it stays covered. I can feel my wolf rattling my cage. He wants to go up to her, sweep her up off the floor and claim her as his in front of everyone. Though I'm pretty sure the tiny human girl would definitely bolt before I'd even get close enough.

My wolf isn't the most welcoming especially towards humans. They're usually only good for one thing, well the ones brave enough are at least. I watch as she's counting the money she's made this morning from her prewritten essay business. She's the smartest girl in our class and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't intimidating from time to time.

I needed to distract myself from Sage before I completely lost my shit in the hallway so I look down to the girl currently hanging on my arm. An average height she-wolf named Jess is babbling nonstop about the latest school gossip. She hasn't even noticed I wasn't even paying attention.

"Babygirl." I say wrapping my hand around her waist. She looks up automatically stopping midway through her sentence. "Let me walk you to class." My wolf protests but I push him down sternly as she smiles up at me with full lips.

Jess' class is at the opposite side of the school from first period English Lit so it'll put plenty of space between me a the human girl before I see her again. Once we are down the hall and around the first corner I can breathe again as my wolf finally lets up.

"What's going on with you? You seem more... feral than usual." She asks turning to face me when we get to her class. Her hands play slowly with the buttons on my shirt straightening the fabric.

"Someone stood me up last night. On my birthday." I say looking down on her with my blue eyes. She bites her bottom lip thoughtfully cautious about what she says next.

"I'm sorry I got a bit held up and couldn't get away." She says looking me straight on. She doesn't have to tell me who she was with. I already know the answer. Shifters are notoriously non exclusive and non-monogamous beings. We're pack.

She tilts her head up brushing her lips against mine as the first bell rings. My wolf stirs impatiently. She's not the one he wants right now and is annoyed that im entertaining her at this moment. Shit. "I have to go if I get locked out of Foster's again I'll be walking everywhere." I say turning away and running down the hall. My wolf settling satisfied that we have Sage first period but only if I get there in time.

Sage

I'm resting my throbbing head contently on the cool desk listening to the lecture Foster is droning on about. I've already read the material for this class. It's the only way I can stay on top of the curriculum of the course. I read it therefore I know it.

I'm so lost in the lesson that I didn't even notice my jacket riding up my back ever so slightly. I feel something warm lightly graze a very sensitive spot on my back and I sit up instantly as memories of last night flash across my brain. Me on the floor after my dad pulled me inside the house and proceeded to scream profanities in my face accusing me of sleeping around. Which is crazy considering I've never even kissed a boy before.

I cried, curled up on the kitchen floor as my dad kicks me three times in the back before he gets winded and stubbles to the couch to pass out. Bottle still in hand.

I sit up abruptly my shirt and jacket falling back into place. Lacey looks at me from the corner of her eye. She doesn't dare look behind us at the blonde alpha perched there. I don't know what comes over me but I whip my head around my green eyes narrowing at the icy blues behind me.

Jaxson is wearing a not too pleased expression on his face and normally I would cowar away from him but I seriously don't like my personal space being messed with. I look him over, his button up shirt matches his eyes and the leather jacket he wears is typical of the bad boy alpha image he so proudly wears.

"Do you mind." I say my voice coming out colder than it should my head throbbing even more. His eyes light up with silver at my tone. I hear Lacey draw a breath sharp and quiet. He doesn't say anything to me. Just looks me over from my dark brown almost black hair, forest green eyes, to my Pink Floyd tshirt a denim jack. His eyes trail down over my ripped skinny jeans down to my rainbow high top vans and back up to my eyes.

"Ms. Montgomery since I am currently interrupting your social time would you please repeat back to me what I just said so I know I'm not wasting my time." Foster calls from the front of the class. I don't turn around, Jaxson has me trapped in a staring contest.

I hadn't actually heard what she had said in the lecture but that didn't matter because I know the material and without thinking I recite back to her everything she's said in the last minute and a half. I'm not even finished when she speaks up again my eyes never leaving his. "Eyes forward please." She says interrupting my monotonous recap.

I break eye contact with those insanely blue insanely gorgeous eyes and turn back around in my seat. I securely sit on the bottom of my jacket so it doesn't ride up again. I sit back against my chair arms crossed over my chest. I stand at a measly 5ft even and my small stature allows me to bring my legs up between me and the desk connected to my chair. I rest my chin on my knee as I pretend to listen to the lecture over gothic horror, excited at the fact we're about to start Frankenstein. I've read the book already and have already started working on the material for it for my business.

I've realized I've made a calculated mistake when I turned around a moment before when I feel my long hair being slightly tugged on. I instantly pull my hair forward over my shoulder wishing I had a hoodie on under my jacket.

A moment later I feel warm finger tips brush the back of my neck and a shiver makes its way down my body. This time I don't move. Typically the shifters get the idea when you don't react. I was not so lucky because Jaxson continued to mess with me for the remainder of the class.

Although I don't like my personal space being messed with something inside me kinda likes the attention I'm receiving. Shifters usually only bother talking to me when they need their homework done. I do my best to stay out of their way. Lacey and I are on the same page when the bell rings and we both get out of the classroom as fast as humanly possible.
