The first thing Damon noticed when they got to the village was the silence. Not the hush of villagers as they walk around the centre. But the stillness of a predator waiting to strike.

It was thick and suffocating. The kind of silence that comes before immense blood shed.

The village square looked like any other, a stone well at its center, timber houses facing the village square with empty windows, but the air was different. Heavy and charged. Wolves packed shoulder to shoulder, their eyes gleaming with expectation.

Every single one of them had come to see Evelyn break.

The moment they crossed the border, guards swept in. Wolves in black leather, insignias stitched in silver thread. Weapons gleamed as if freshly polished for the occasion. Damon’s shoulders tensed, Kael falling into step at Evelyn’s left like a shadow while Damon took her right.

“Don’t move,” one guard barked.

Evelyn lifted her chin. “We’re guests. We came as summoned. I was told to attend a court hear

The tall man loomed closer. His grin stretched too wide, his eyes dark with hunger as he reached for her thigh once more. "No." Naviah growled. Evelyn’s knee jerked upward, catching him square in the stomach. The force was so sudden, so sharp, he stumbled back, choking. Gasps rippled through the crowd. Evelyn blinked in surprise, her chest heaving. She hadn’t moved of her own accord. "That was me. But it will be you next time." Naviah spoke directly into her mind. "I can lend you my strength, Evelyn. But only if you trust me." The man roared, lunging forward again. Evelyn kicked even harder this time. Her foot connected with his jaw. He fell with a satisfying crack of teeth. The crowd erupted—half in shock, half in furious excitement. “She fights back!” someone yelled. “Make her pay!” another snarled. Three more wolves approached cautiously, but Evelyn’s glare left them hesitating. Her eyes burned faint gold now, Naviah’s presence coiled like a viper just beneath her ski

They dragged her out of the cell before dawn. Chains bit into her wrists and ankles, heavy with silver. Each step sent fresh pain flooding through her veins. Evelyn kept her head high anyway. She wouldn’t give them the satisfaction. When the courtyard came into view, her stomach turned. The entire pack was there. Wolves lined the square shoulder to shoulder, faces lit with cruel curiosity. Children perched on rooftops. Old women clutched shawls tight around their shoulders. And at the center of it all was Adrian. He sat on a raised throne of dark wood, golden hair gleaming in the pale light. His smile was sharp and cold as a blade. “Bring her forward,” he ordered. Evelyn didn’t resist as guards shoved her into the center of the square. “Today,” Adrian announced, “We give the pack what it deserves... justice.” His voice carried over the crowd. “For too long this traitor has walked free, her crimes unpunished.” Gasps rippled through the gathering. Murmurs rose like angry was

Darkness pressed in, thick and suffocating. Evelyn’s breath came shallow as a memory unfolded, so vivid she could smell the warm honey scent of Sophia’s hair. They were in the garden behind the old packhouse, Sophia’s small hands clutching a fistful of dandelions. Her laugh was soft, musical, as she waved them at Evelyn. “For you,” the tiny frail girl whispered as she handed her the flowers. Evelyn knelt, brushing stray curls from Sophia’s flushed cheeks. “You don’t have to give me gifts, little pup.” Sophia grinned. “You’re my favorite, I love you so much, I want you to have all the pretty things.” The sound of boots crunching gravel made Evelyn’s stomach twist. She looked up to see Adrian striding toward them, his expression carved from ice. The usual anger seeping from his skin. “Inside,” he ordered. His eyes flicked to Evelyn. “Both of you. Now.” Sophia stiffened in fear. Evelyn rose, squaring her shoulders. “She’s just a child she needs to pla—” “Inside.” His tone

The first thing Evelyn noticed was the silence. Not the peaceful kind that you find when your wanding through the woods listening to the birds sing. Not like fresh snow on a dark sleeping village before the hustle of the day begins. This was thick, heavy, suffocating. And all too familiar too Evelyn. The village square hadn’t changed, not really. The stone well still sat in the center, flanked by timber houses whose windows stared like blank eyes. But there were more people than she remembered. More faces. Wolves standing shoulder to shoulder, their eyes sharp with expectation. And every single one of them was here to watch her fall. The moment they crossed the border, guards closed in. Wolves in black leathers, their insignias stitched in silver thread, weapons gleaming. Damon and Kael flanked her immediately, muscles tensed. Surrounding her and Brina, keeping them out of reach from the guards. “Don’t move,” one guard barked. Evelyn raised her chin. “We’re guests. We came as s

The scent of blood lingered in the clearing. Iron-rich and sickly, mixing with the damp smoke curling from the fire. It made her want to throw up. Damon sat rigid against a fallen tree, eyes locked on the treeline where shadows stretched like reaching claws. His muscles burned, gashes along his ribs throbbing, a deep tear near his shoulder weeping crimson. He didn’t move. Pain had never mattered. Survival was instinct. HIs wolf would heal him as he always did. His wolf prowled beneath his skin, but not from injury, not from the lingering scent of Adrian’s scouts... from her. Evelyn knelt beside him, quiet as moonlight, a bowl of steaming water balanced in her hands. “You’re bleeding.” “I’ll heal.” His voice came flat, automatic. “Not fast enough.” She set the bowl down, dipping a cloth, wringing it gently. When her fingers brushed his arm, Damon tensed. “I can do it myself, do not worry yourself with petty tasks like this.” “No. You fought for us. Let me, I want too.” The w
