Vermin

When I was informed that we were finally going to attack the bluewinters, I knew the time had come that I would see Yeneffer again. I had waited for years, knowing this day would finally come. All the other packs had been destroyed, scattered into tiny fragments across the face of the earth. The Bluewinter pack was the last one standing, no allies. It was time for it to go down too.

In the battlefield, I tore down their men into shreds. My wolf was a kind they had never seen before. The serum invented by the pack doctor was quite a wonder. With the extra power it gave me, each wolf in my path went down in total annihilation. I announced myself to the bluewinters again, not as the boy whom they all tried to murder eight years ago, but as a man who had come with the sword of brutal justice.

I was happy for a while, then everything changed in the blink of an eye when I beheld her from afar. Yeneffer Bianco, the reason I had been filled with hate for eight years. I thought we would clash in battle but she was running away with her sister, eloping from the field of battle like a coward. Not what I had expected.

"Hey Oliver! Destroy that safehouse!" I mind linked with the commander of our air force. In another moment, the giant building had been reduced to sand. But Yeneffer and her sister kept running, this time into the woods.

"Where are you going?" My beta asked me as I jumped in their chase.

"Going for a little reunion."

In the woods, I followed quietly. The way she ran, it was obvious she didn't have her wolf yet. They would soon run out of energy. When they finally did, I watched and listened from my spot, a good distance away. Yeneffer had only grown taller, but her facial features remained the same. Her hair was no longer as black as it used to be, but in a way, she was just like that same little girl whom I used to know.

When she saw me, I chased after them and boy did I capture her? The fear in her eyes as she shivered before me. It was a bit satisfying. When I turned human, she recognised me immediately. For some reason, it felt good and I even considered freeing her.

But then she said, "Please Vermino, let me go. My sister needs me. She can't be out there on her own."

Arrogant girl! She still did think I was that little boy she used to boss around. That simp who would do anything at her behest and request. I was no longer that weakling, I had to let her know.

Choking her was supposed to be a pleasure, but I felt bad doing it. The pain in her eyes, I couldn't ignore. Yet I had to show no mercy.

"I belong to the great Sunfyre pack, the only true pack of werewolves. And you are my prisoner. I will take you back to father and you shall serve as one of our slaves just like all weak girls like you."

Then some of my men arrived.

"Master, the alpha wants you back. He has sent out men to find you. We have exterminated the members of the Bluewinter pack, including their alpha. Our mission is complete."

"What about Adrian Bianco?"

"Dead. Killed by the alpha himself."

I watched her eyes fill up with water. As she fell on her knees, I managed a frown. I had intended to make sure the Biancos survived. But maybe it was better if Adrian died. My father would torture him for the rest of his life if he didn't.

"Take her and bind her. We are going back." I commanded.

The servants kicked her, pulling her hair violently. It raised a fury in me that I struggled to contain. I felt like strangling them to death, but why would I do that? She was supposed to be the enemy.

She stopped midway, facing me with that poisonous glare which I hadn't seen since the last day we both saw each other.

"You will regret this, Vermino. I will have my revenge".

As they went away, I heard a voice behind me.

"Are you already regretting it? Capturing her?"

It was Darius, my beta. I didn't notice he was present too.

"No." I scowled. "It's just that... They don't have to treat her like that..."

"But that's the same way we treat every prisoner." He reminded me, wearing that sheepish smile as he handed me a pair of trousers.

He had a point. Yeneffer was no different from all the others. But I still could not shake off the feeling.

"You know, you should have just let her escape with her sister instead of letting her know you are alive. Now that she is captured, you have to face her every time, knowing she thinks you are a monster."

"Am I not?" I faced him before bending to wear the clothes he brought. He had no answer.

The memories in my head were awry and dreadful. The things I had done in the past few years. Evil things, dark and gory. All to prove myself to father. I was the devil himself.

As we returned to the battle ground where father was waiting for us, I could feel Darius stealing glances at me.

"What is it?" I knew he wanted to say something.

"You know, Vermin, your father already chose you to succeed him as alpha, but that can still change. Your brother is not the type to give up easily, if he finds out about this girl... He must not find out about her."

"Sure. That's why she's going to the Slave Island." I acted unbothered but I knew Darius was right. Yeneffer might end up being my weakness. But I believed I had no weakness. I was strong and cold just like father. She couldn't be my weakness.

When we appeared before the pack leaders, cheers of victory welcomed us. Father was seated at the far end of the place which used to be the meeting room of the bluewinters. The pack leaders spread out on his left and right sides, forming a semi circle while the young wolves stood behind them. There was blood and bones in the soil, but only Sunfyres stood above them.

"Where have you been?" Asked Malcolm, standing proudly by father's right side. He was my brother, my biggest rival in the entire world.

"I dealt with a few runaways." I responded as silence returned to the environment.

"That is duty for the lowly wolves, not the heir to the alpha." Malcolm scoffed.

A little eruption of laughter from among the pack members. Then silence returned as father's fingers twerked just a little. But not for long.

"My alpha! My alpha!" A young wolf came running. "We have a problem!"

He fell on his knees.

"Speak!"

"The corpses of the bluewinter pack leaders... One of the corpses is missing!"

A shock wave cut across us all. Everyone murmured in disbelief. Malcolm came forward and slammed his staff on the ground.

"Which of them?" He demanded.

"Adrian Bianco."

The murmurs grew even louder. How did this happen? The alpha had killed Adrian Bianco himself. How could he survive Alpha Denver's strike. He was just a beta.

I could see the fury in father's eyes already, he despised failure so much when it came from his subjects. How more from himself?

"Vermin! Find that son of a bastard, he can't have gone far. And when you find him, bring him to me. Alive!"

He rose up at once, followed by his council of pack leaders, and we all bowed in respect.

"Yes father." I responded, noticing the displeasure on Malcolm's face.

Vermin"I told you to keep an eye on her!" I said to Darius as soon as the door closed. If he had done his job better, my girlfriend would not be out in the middle of the night right now, trying to catch Yennefer Bianco."We did." Darius defended himself. "My boys noticed some strange movements at the slave quarters. I came to tell you as fast as I could, but Sheara had already found out about it somehow. She hijacked the information. And you did not make things easy too, making out with Lysandra right at this crucial moment."I ignored the little jab of words from Darius. I knew I needed to somehow someway stop Lysandra as soon as possible. I had a strong feeling that if she was able to capture Yeneffer, it was only a matter of time before she would find out her real identity. That must not happen."What else did your boys say?""The movements were towards the west." Darius said, his eyes said the rest."They are going to the forbidden ship." I realized."No one has taken that ship i

  • Born Enemies, Fated Mates   Malcolm Wolfsbane

As much as I was shocked by Eliora's sudden betrayal, I was even more suprised at the identity of the man before me. Malcolm Wolfsbane. He was the first born son of Alpha Denver, he was a notorious name among the tongues of the warriors of my pack. His ruthlessness, his evil heartedness, his merciless nature. They say he was the true heir to the Sunfyre alpha in blood and heart. The true Alpha. I remembered the red eyes which watched me from the darkness. That was the same pair of red eyes glaring at me now. They belonged to only one person all along - Him. He had watched me for so long. He had set Eliora after me, at least that was the only explanation for this turn around."You..." I could not believe Eliora. "You traitor..."If she had been working for Malcolm all along, then what about Lily? Maybe Lily had not betrayed us afterall. Maybe it was all part of Eliora's sly plan. Maybe something had happen to Lily... Poor Lily! What had they done to her? Why would Eliora even betray me

  • Born Enemies, Fated Mates   The Escape

The night had come. In the middle of the darkness, Eliora woke me. "It is time to leave," She said. Of course it was time. The time I had awaited all along. One more night and the full moon would be here. Tonight was my last chance to escape."Quick." She grabbed a few things. The paper which Lily found earlier glowed under the light of the dim lamp, held tightly by Eliora. "We have to go quietly."The key was with me. I held it close. We were going to really escape. The three of us. "Where is Lily?" I checked around."Maybe stuck in the dreamworld because she is too scared to wake up." Eliora rather focused on the things she needed. I bent over to Lily's bed."Come on, Lily. It is time to go." When I reached for her under the thick blanket made of animal skin, her body pressed deep like soft feathers. In an instant, I threw away the blanket. There was no Lily, just a line of pillows."She is gone!" I could not believe my eyes. Maybe the night was playing tricks on me. Maybe it was

  • Born Enemies, Fated Mates   Day Before The Escape

"Did I not ask you to leave?" Vermin stood close to the giant wardrobe. Slowly, I opened the door, slightly then widely. I had heard everything that they said. Vermin used to have feelings for me? But now he was desperate to get rid of me? That didn't make sense. Now that I thought about it, I realized that he had kept my identity secret for a reason. Maybe he still had feelings afterall and he didn't want me to get hurt."You have to stop all these games, Yeneffer. I will not be there to save you another time." He said, edging closer. "I have kept your identity a secret long enough. There is nothing I can do if you keep announcing yourself with your stupid plans. I don't know what you are planning, but I know it will not work", he said.I believed it more when he said that. He was surely the one who was watching me during the night. The wolf with the red eyes.If my plans would not work, then why would he not help? I walked towards him. "You have to let me go, Vermino. I promise..."

  • Born Enemies, Fated Mates   Feelings of a Young Alpha

Several thoughts had gone through my mind. It felt like an eternity for those doors to open. I recalled the stories I had heard about Lysandra's father, Derek Marble the blood beta. He was a vicious beast, just as evil as his alpha. He who would eliminate anything and anyone that stood in the way of his ambitions. According to the stories, he once decapacitated his own brother a long time ago so as to be the next beta of the Sunfyre pack. According to the stories, Derek kept his brother alive as a mercy but took away his legs to show the world how weak he was. Derek was no normal werewolf, and he was not one to mess with, especially by an enemy's daughter like me."Let me go!" I tried my best to pull away from Vermin, but he would not budge. Once again, his strength was too much to overcome. "Stay still, Yeneffer. You want to get revenge on Lysandra, don't you? For everything she has done to you? What better way to do that than to make her think her boyfriend has cheated on her? You

  • Born Enemies, Fated Mates   Let's Get The Beta Angry

The door opened. She hurried in, looking beaten and anxious. Looking for something, she ignored the maid who was bent over, cleaning her room. I watched silently as she paraded."It must be here somewhere." She said. When she had walked over to the huge shelf of valuables on the opposite end of the room, I started to find my way out, making sure that my face was never in her direction. With the cleaning basket and the water mop, I guarded my identity. The violet cat stared at me in suspicion. When I made it to the door, Lysandra called."Hey you! Stop right there!"I could not turn around. Frozen still, eyes against the open door, I heard her steps come from behind."You are the one who is cleaning this room, aren't you? Have you seen my necklace?""No... I haven't." I tried to hide the part of my voice which suggested familiarity. She had stopped paying me much attention again, the search being so important to her. Maybe this was my chance to walk away."Where are you going? You hav
