Chapter 13 :The Shadow That Watches

The forest had gone too quiet.

Silver stood between the three Alphas, her breath shallow as unease crept along her spine. The bond linking her to Kyrian, Kael, and Kairo pulsed faintly beneath her skin, like a warning she couldn’t quite understand.

Kyrian was the first to notice.

His golden eyes lifted toward the dark tree line, sharp and alert.

“Something’s here,” he said quietly.

Kael shifted beside Silver, tension rippling through him as his wolf stirred restlessly beneath the surface.

“I smell it,” he muttered. “But it’s wrong.”

Kairo stepped behind them, his gaze sweeping the forest with careful precision.

“We’re not alone,” he said calmly.

A cold breeze slid through the trees.

Silver wrapped her arms around herself.

Then she heard it.

At first it sounded like wind whispering through the leaves.

But it wasn’t the wind.

It was a voice.

Faint.

Barely there.

Her breath caught.

She turned her head slightly, trying to locate the sound.

“Did you hear that?” she asked.

The Alphas looked at her immediately.

“Hear what?” Kael asked.

Her full name.

The sound sent ice down her spine.

Silver’s heart began pounding.

But the others couldn’t hear it.

The crescent moon necklace at her throat suddenly warmed against her skin.

Kyrian noticed instantly.

“Silver.”

His voice was low and controlled.

“Do not move.”

But the whisper continued.

Silver’s pulse raced.

“There.”

A shadow slid across the forest floor.

“What… is that?” she whispered.

Kairo’s expression hardened.

The shadow moved closer, gliding silently between the trees.

“How does it know my name?” she whispered.

Kael stepped in front of her immediately.

His wolf surged closer to the surface, claws flexing.

“I don’t care what it knows,” he growled. “It’s not getting near you.”

The shadow lunged.

Kairo nodded sharply.

The shadow surged again, reaching for Silver.

Cold rushed around her feet like frost.

And the whisper returned.

Fear flooded her chest.

The shadow shrieked.

Then the shadow recoiled.

The forest fell silent.

Silver’s light faded slowly.

Her knees buckled.

Kael caught her instantly.

“Easy,” he murmured, steadying her.

Kyrian stepped closer, his sharp gaze examining the glowing necklace.

“You destroyed it.”

Silver shook her head weakly.

“I didn’t mean to.”

Kairo was staring into the forest where the shadow had disappeared.

His expression had gone thoughtful—and troubled.

“That wasn’t an attack,” he said quietly.

Kyrian frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Kairo looked back at Silver.

“It was observing.”

The words settled heavily in the air.

Kael frowned.

“Observing for what?”

Kairo’s voice dropped.

“For confirmation.”

Silver swallowed nervously.

The whisper still echoed faintly in her mind.

Kyrian noticed her expression.

“What did you hear?”

Silver hesitated.

Then she answered quietly.

“It knew my name.”

Silence fell between them.

Kairo’s eyes darkened slightly.

“That means something sent it.”

Kael’s jaw tightened.

Kyrian looked up toward the dark forest.

His voice was cold.

“Then it will come again.”

Silver felt the bond tighten around her like a shield as the three Alphas closed ranks around her instinctively.
