‎AUXILIARY CHAPTER: WHAT WE DIDN'T SEE

‎[JESSICA'S POV]

‎Amara had only stepped out to take a look around the restaurant.

‎She'd be back in a few minutes.

‎At least, that was what I thought.

‎Five minutes passed.

‎Then ten.

‎Then fifteen.

‎By the twenty-minute mark, even I started getting suspicious.

‎"Where's Amara?" Maya asked.

‎I frowned.

‎"Good question." i said

‎Daniel glanced up briefly from his football match.

‎"Maybe she's lost."

‎"This place is like a maze."

‎El didn't even look up f

The city lights blurred past the tinted windows of the black rolls- royce car, their golden glow stretching into long streaks against the night.Inside the car...The only sound was the soft hum of the engine and the quiet sniffles coming from the young woman seated beside Ethan.Amara had tried. She had really tried to hold herself together after Ethan got her out of there. But the moment the car doors closed, everything she had been holding back came crashing down.Tears streamed freely down her cheeks. She covered her face with both hands, but the sobs refused to stop."I don't understand..." she whispered brokenly. "Why are they still like this after all these years?"Ethan remained silent. His gaze stayed fixed ahead while his fingers rested calmly on his knee.Normally...He hated noise.Especially crying. To him, tears solved nothing. If anything, they only made people irrational. At least...That was what he had always believed.Yet tonight...He wasn't irritated. Not even a l

  • Born of secrets, loved by a King   Chapter 39: Take off my Dress!

The reunion party was far livelier than I had expected..Laughter echoed from every corner.Everywhere I looked, old classmates were embracing one another, taking pictures, exchanging stories, and laughing over memories that seemed to have happened only yesterday. For the first time in a very long while...I wasn't thinking about work.I wasn't worrying about bills.I wasn't thinking about how many extra shifts I needed to pick up to support Maya and my younger siblings.Tonight...I was simply Amara.Jessica grabbed my wrist before I could reach for another strawberry tart."Oh no," she laughed. "You've been hiding at the food table for five whole minutes.""I'm hungry."She rolled her eyes dramatically before pulling me toward the dance floor."You owe me one more dance.""I absolutely do not.""You do.""I'll fall.""I'll catch you.""I don't trust you.""You should."Despite my protests, she dragged me into the crowd. The DJ switched to one of our favorite songs from our universit

The tiny apartment looked as though a whirlwind had swept through it.Clothes were everywhere.A faded blue blouse lay across the chair. Two pairs of jeans were tossed onto the floor. Dresses of different colors covered the bed, while a small pile of folded clothes sat in the corner, waiting to be judged.Jessica held up another dress and frowned dramatically."No."She tossed it onto the growing mountain of rejected clothes.Maya bent down and picked up a cream-colored skirt."What about this one?"Jessica took one look and nearly gasped."Absolutely not!"The skirt joined the pile.Sitting on the edge of the bed with her chin resting on her palm, Amara watched the two women tear through her wardrobe as though they were on a mission to save the world."You two are acting like my clothes committed a crime.""They did," Jessica replied without looking at her. "The crime of existing."Maya burst into laughter."I've never seen a wardrobe this... tragic."Amara rolled her eyes."I wasn't

  • Born of secrets, loved by a King   Chapter 37: A farewell for Snow

The palace felt like it was mourning.Near the flower garden, beneath the old oak tree where he loved to nap every afternoon, lay snow.Wrapped carefully in a clean white cloth, the golden retriever looked as though he were only asleep.Adrian stood beside him, his small hands trembling. His eyes were swollen and red from crying. He couldn't stop staring at the lifeless body, refusing to believe the playful companion who had greeted him every morning would never wag his tail again."No..." he whispered, shaking his head. "Wake up..."No one answered. He slowly knelt beside the dog and gently stroked snow's soft ears."You promised we'd play today," he said, his voice cracking. "You always wait for me after breakfast... Why are you sleeping?"A tear rolled down his cheek before another quickly followed.Albert stood a few steps away, his hands buried in his pockets. His expression remained calm as always, but inside, guilt clawed at him.Snow hadn't died by accident. The poisoned food

The royal dining hall glowed beneath three magnificent crystal chandeliers and walls adorned with portraits of generations of monarchs. At the center of the hall stood an enormous mahogany dining table that could comfortably seat more than twenty people. Tonight, however, only the royal family occupied its seats. The center of the table was a feast. A whole roasted turkey, golden and glistening, sat at the heart of the spread, flanked by mounds of bread rolls, layered pastries, and platters of roasted meats. Bowls of salad, bright with cherry tomatoes and greens, sat next to trays of cheeses, fresh fruit, and candied berries. Towering candelabras with tall white candles cast a warm glow over it all, making the food look richer, the gold plates catch fire. The aroma alone was enough to make anyone's stomach growl.Yet no one touched a single dish. The family waited. It was a tradition established decades ago by King Theodore himself. No member of the royal family was permitted to begi

  • Born of secrets, loved by a King   chapter 35: The wrong person to mess with

After the fight got broken up, I figured I'd be sent straight back to class. Instead, the school nurse took one look at my face and practically dragged me to the clinic. "I'm perfectly fine," I complained. "You have a cut on your lip." "It's tiny." "And a bump on your forehead." "Also tiny." "Sit down." I sighed dramatically and dropped into the chair. The nurse ignored me completely and grabbed an ice pack. A few minutes later, I sat there pressing the cold pack against my forehead while she fussed over me, even though it honestly wasn't that bad. Frank looked worse than I did. Not that I was going to tell anyone that. "Any dizziness?" the nurse asked. "No." "Blurred vision?" "No." "Pain?" "A little." She nodded. "Stay here a few more minutes." I groaned. Meanwhile, somewhere else in the school, Frank was probably getting the lecture of his life. Good. For once. --- Inside the principal's office, Frank sat lazily in his chair while the principal stood behind the de
