Chapter 2

Author: Starving Desperado
For three years, I was the joke of Kensington's elite circles. The man who once ruled the Becker family with an iron fist had somehow turned into a hopeless fool in love.

I worshipped Eloise like a queen and indulged every material demand she made without question.

With the ten-thousand-dollar monthly allowance I gave her, Eloise lived extravagantly. She bought designer brands, threw lavish parties, and spent money as if it grew on trees.

To flaunt her individuality and the freedom she was always so proud of, she even openly paraded around with Micah Campbell, a male escort she'd picked up at a bar. The two of them appeared together everywhere, deliberately testing the limits of my patience.

Whenever new paparazzi shots of their intimate moments hit the internet, the social elite mocked me behind my back, saying I was so desperately in love that I'd willingly reduced myself to dirt beneath her feet.

What none of them knew was that I had only ever demanded one thing from Eloise, and it was the one line she could never cross—her health.

I hired one of the world's most elite private medical teams at an astronomical price and required her to undergo a comprehensive physical examination every single week.

I strictly monitored her diet, employing professional chefs to prepare scientifically balanced meals tailored specifically to her needs.

Smoking was absolutely forbidden, and hard liquor was completely prohibited as well.

However, to Eloise and Micah, all of my efforts were just a joke they laughed about together.

"El, Mr. Becker is seriously obsessed with you," Micah would tease while stretched out in her arms. "The man wants to control how much water you drink. That's a terrifying level of possessiveness."

Eloise would respond with a contemptuous laugh.

"He's just a crazy man desperate for affection. He thinks he can tie me down with this nonsense. Too bad for him. I'll never give him what he wants."

What she never knew was that every time the medical team placed her examination report on my desk, I would immediately turn to the cardiac indicators.

Whenever those numbers came back flawless, I would finally breathe a sigh of relief.

In this entire world, there was only one person I truly cared about—my sister, Nina Becker.

Nina and I weren't related by blood. We were both orphans adopted by the Becker family.

The outside world thought we had risen to the top in one fell swoop. What they didn't know was that we had actually fallen straight into a real hell.

Our adoptive father, Flynn Becker, was a monster. In public, he was a respected philanthropist and a model gentleman. Behind closed doors, he was a violent sadist.

No one knew how many adopted children like us had disappeared forever beneath that mansion.

No one knew how many innocent lives had been buried in the darkness of his basement.

Throughout those endless years of living in hell, it was Nina who protected me again and again. The frail little Nina would throw herself in front of me, shielding me from Flynn's barbed whip and heavy iron rod.

"Don't worry, Drake. It doesn't hurt at all..."

Even when her face was deathly pale from the beatings, she would still cover my eyes with her tiny hands and draw me close in that dark, freezing basement.

The only way we made it through was by holding each other for warmth.

Nina was the only light I ever had. She was the only reason I kept fighting through that filthy world, and she was the only person I had ever truly loved.

I bided my time, enduring in silence, until my moment finally came. I sent Flynn to hell with my own hands and took complete control of the Becker family.

I thought our suffering was finally over.

I thought the light had finally reached us.

Instead, years of severe physical abuse and relentless trauma had destroyed Nina's heart.

The doctors told me that without a heart transplant, she would never live to see her 22nd birthday.

I poured the Becker family's vast fortune into a worldwide search for a compatible donor.

However, Nina's blood type was extraordinarily rare, and her antibody profile was exceptionally complex.

Match after match failed.

Then, three years ago, in that underground boxing arena, I saw Eloise Kane's medical report.

I had found that one-in-a-hundred-million chance. She was a perfect match.

From that moment on, Eloise ceased to be a person in my eyes.

She became a living organ incubator.

All the indulgence I showed her was only to nurture the heart that would one day belong to Nina.

Three days later, Nina lay in her hospital bed in the intensive care unit. Her face was still pale, but her lifeless gray pallor had finally vanished. Her long eyelashes fluttered slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes."Drake…" she called out weakly. Her voice was raspy, yet it held the undeniable strength of someone who had been reborn."I'm here. I'm right here."I held her cold hand tight, fighting back the heat behind my eyes.Nina managed a faint smile. She turned her hand over and gently guided mine to rest against her left chest."Drake, it doesn't hurt anymore."She looked at me with eyes as clear and gentle as they had been all those years ago in that dim underground basement, when she shielded me from the blows and comforted me afterward.Only this time, neither of us had to be afraid anymore.…In the blink of an eye, half a year had passed. On a private estate on the outskirts of Kensington, sunlight poured down in warm brilliance, and a gentle breeze drifted

The procedure took ten hours. When the lead surgeon finally stepped out of the operating room, peeled off his blood-soaked gloves, and offered me a tired but relieved smile, the weight I had held in my chest all night finally started to lift."Mr. Becker, the surgery was a complete success. The donor heart is exceptionally strong, the match is perfect, and there are no signs of rejection," he said. "Ms. Becker's vital signs are stable now. Once she passes the critical period, she should recover steadily."When I heard those words, the tension holding my spine straight finally cracked. Madison, who was beside me, reached out in time to steady me and handed me a tissue. That was when I noticed my palms were drenched in sweat."Thank you." I took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from my face, and felt my composure slowly settle back into place.Madison looked toward the operating room. "What about the body?" she asked casually, as if she were referring to a piece of trash."Send

Eloise was stripped of all her outer clothing and secured flat on her back to the cold stainless-steel operating table.Four thick leather restraints locked her limbs down with merciless force. She couldn't move even a single finger.A nurse approached with an expressionless face and began the preoperative preparations."No, please... I'm begging you..."She strained to look around, desperately searching for any sliver of hope beneath the blinding surgical lights. At last, she saw the enormous one-way observation window directly before her.On the other side of the glass, I stood in sterile surgical clothing, coldly observing everything inside the operating room."Drake! I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!"Eloise finally broke. She begged through the glass, sobbing uncontrollably. Tears and snot covered her face, making her look utterly pathetic."I shouldn't have said those things at the bar! I shouldn't have made you angry!"I shouldn't have messed around with Micah! P

Eloise was transferred into a fully sealed isolation ward.Years of fighting in underground boxing had given her a physique far beyond the average person, and her metabolism broke down drugs at an unusual speed. When the nurses came to change her into a hospital gown and attach the cardiac monitors, the sedative's effects briefly started to fade.In that brief moment, her survival instincts surged violently through her. With an unexpected burst of strength, she wrenched herself free from the loosely fastened restraints and drove a vicious elbow into one nurse's temple. In the same fluid motion, she kicked the other nurse away and stumbled toward the door. Her eyes took on a feral look as she forced herself to make a frantic attempt to escape."Stop right there!"Black-clad bodyguards stationed at both ends of the corridor immediately drew expandable batons and advanced on her.Gritting her teeth, Eloise dropped into the fighting stance she had once dominated the underground are

Eloise was dragged out through the bar's back entrance like a discarded rag doll, held up on both sides by two bodyguards. The sedative was taking effect quickly. Her vision blurred, and her limbs felt as heavy as if they had been filled with lead. However, her survival instincts still burned in her. Just as they were about to force her into the freezing vehicle, she summoned every last ounce of strength to turn her head.Behind her, she saw Micah being pushed out as well. He was treated like nothing more than a nuisance. That man was the so-called "true love" she had spent my money on over the past three years. He was also the weapon she used to show off her individuality and her so-called freedom, all just to provoke me."Micah, save me... Call the police... Get help..."With what little strength she had left, Eloise slurred out a plea, begging Micah to save her.Her bloodshot eyes were filled with a desperate will to survive, as if Micah was the only remaining lifeline she ha

She fixed me with those bloodshot eyes, still not quite grasping what I had just said on the phone."Drake, what the hell is wrong with you?" she shouted through clenched teeth.Eloise's voice wavered with pain, but her ridiculous pride wouldn't let her break."Organ transplant? You think you can scare me with that? You really believe hiring a few bodyguards to put on an act is enough to intimidate me?"She struggled furiously against the guards holding her down.I gazed down at her without a trace of emotion. I stepped forward and pressed the tip of my leather shoe onto the back of her right hand, forcing a pained cry from her lips."Intimidate you?" I murmured, leaning in closer. My voice was so low that only she could hear, but each word landed like a knife. "Eloise, be honest with yourself. Did you really believe your pretty face or your so-called skills were worth ten thousand dollars a month?"Pain sent spasms through Eloise's body. Cold sweat mixed with blood drippe
