Amber

It felt like all eyes were on me when I walked into the room and I did not need to be told that I was the last person. There were 14 girls and I joined and made the number 15. A tall bulky man that I assumed was the supervisor had a frown on his face the moment I walked in and I bowed my head timidly as I quietly went to stand beside a girl.

“Just so you all know, your selection has officially started. You are all expected to be of good behavior and a test will be carried out on all of you now, to make sure that you all are clean from any sexually transmitted disease.” He said and there was a confused look on my face as I watched him signal two guards who in turn allowed two doctors and three nurses to come into the room.

Everything happened swiftly as they collected our blood samples to confirm if we were clean. Everyone was. They left just the same way that they came in and there was absolute silence everywhere and the bulky man's eyes scanned all of us.

“As I said, the selection has officially begun and I'm very sure you know why you are here. It's to be a breeder. Anyone can be eliminated and they can choose to be with whoever they want for a night. Make sure to be on your best behavior and the last girl standing will be the official breeder of the Alpha.” There was a slight murmur among the girls, but I remained quiet and never looked sideways.

The bulky man's loud voice thundered and everyone came to a halt. “Alpha Jarek is coming.” That was all he said and it seemed like he was trying to convey a message with his eyes, telling us to be on our best behavior.

The doors opened and I held my breath. I felt so nervous and my palms suddenly became sweaty. I was meeting and seeing the Alpha for the first time and I felt so damn nervous.

I noticed that the other girls were bowing once he stepped in front of us. I was too scared to look up and just kept my eyes down. “Is my brother coming?” His deep voice was low and he was speaking to a guard. Brother?

“Brother?” I was forced to look at the girl who was standing beside me carefully. “He has a brother?” I asked in whispers. I knew nothing about the palace. Or how the werewolves even operated. I was too caught up struggling in an abusive home to know.

“Don’t you know?” Thankfully, she whispered back.

“What?”

“There are two Alphas.” I frowned.

“Alpha Jarek and Alpha Kael. There are two Alphas, twins.” I mouthed an oh.

“So we are participating to be breeders for Alpha Jarek right?” She narrowed her eyes at me.

“Did you not read the rules before coming here?” I shook my head. I could not as I was dragged to the palace by my father after he beat me up to the point that I fainted. So of course, I could not read any rule book.

“You're strange.” she mouthed. Alpha Jarek was still speaking with the guard, so she continued. “Alpha Kael and Alpha Jarek are both twins and the selection is going to be done by both of them. Everything going on will involve both of them, including the sex.” I stilled and my mouth fell open.

“What?”

“Get your tags right before coming to a place like this.” My blood suddenly turned cold and I lost the ability to think. My mind wandered far as I became frozen with the news. There were two? My father never mentioned that to me. And it finally dawned on me why Mom was so against it. She kept shaking her head at me, telling me to run away even as my father dragged me away. He was dumping me with two ruthless Alpha’s.

“Hey….”

“Lift your head girl. Hey.” Voices echoed in my head but I was too lost and never paid attention to the people around me that were trying to draw me back to reality.

I finally snapped and my eyes widened when they fell on a pair of metallic grey eyes. His gloved hand that still felt rough had grabbed me by my elbow and he looked angry as my eyes met his. I gasped as my eyes traveled on the same familiar face.

It was like I forgot to breathe and it felt like breath had been knocked out of me. It was him. The man from earlier. The one that insulted me and I snapped back at. It was the rude man with a dog. Zoe. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I had no idea that he was the Alpha. I seriously did not know that he was the Alpha. “The fuck is wrong with you?” He spoke and there was something different about him, but I was too scared to point it out.

“I….i….i…” I stammered, trying to come up with an apology, but my words only got caught in my throat. He was definitely different from earlier. His eyes were darker and he looked angrier. More distant. More detached from the world.

“If you are no longer interested, you can walk away from here. Once we do, you will not be able to. What is your name?” He spoke calmly as well, but there was something dangerous about him that I could not place my hands on.

“Amber.” I could barely hear my voice.

“Amber.” He repeated, and he just kept staring at me. “If you want to leave, leave Amber.” He said slowly.

‘And I suggest you do, this place will not be good for you. You look delicate, it will break you.” I froze when I heard his voice in my head. That was one of the things that made the werewolves different from us. They could talk to us humans in our minds. And did he just warm me?

He released me and took a step back. He just warned me and any sane person would have run away, but I had a family to think about. My mother, my siblings. Dad would kill them if I disappointed him. So I stayed.

But still, there was something different about Alpha Jarek. He did not seem to recognize me or realize that I had insulted me. Something dawned on me again and I slowly asked the girl that was standing beside me. “Are the Alphas Identical twins?” My heart was beating so loudly in my chest.

“Yes.” My shoulders fell. He was not the same person from earlier. I was fucked.
