Sophia's POV

Marcus's kiss was comforting, gentle, caring—it was soft and compassionate, a far cry from the fierce and distant intensity I'd shared with Ethan. It only went on for a handful of moments, but it felt so reassuring that I set aside thoughts of mate links, foretellings, and lethal competitors. I allowed myself to feel desired, and in my broken condition, I desired him in return.

The refuge shattered with a bellow of raw, unchecked fury.

We leaped back, but too late. Ethan loomed in the curved entry, his body quaking, his gaze shining with a wicked golden hue. He wasn't merely mad; he was savage.

"You," he growled, the term a harsh damnation directed at Marcus.

He bridged the gap in a flash. No alert, no talk. His knuckles slammed into Marcus's chin with a nauseating snap. Marcus reeled, but he didn't drop. The shock on his features twisted into a sharp, pent-up wrath of his own.

"Back off, Ethan!" Marcus thundere

Sophia's POV "She asked for me?" The words slipped out more snarky than I'd meant. This crazy lady wanted a conversation with the very person she'd been undermining since she arrived, right after unleashing a bunch of wolves from their chains. This woman had lost her mind. Idris's face was like stone. "It's a setup. Or a mind game. You're not going anywhere near her." "But if she's just sitting there, if she insists on talking..." All at once, a chilling, morbid interest took hold of me. I wanted to face her directly. I wanted to look into the eyes of someone who'd release horrors into a home where a kid was sleeping. "No," Idris stated, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Thorne, you stick with her. Lucas, come with me. We'll lock down Jessica and haul her to the containment cells. The Alpha and Marcus

Sophia's POVThe quiet that came after Idris's announcement was like a total void, pulling every bit of oxygen from the space. Twelve wild wolves. Released into the open, and Marcus was nowhere to be found. My thoughts spun wildly, like a trapped creature fueled by sheer terror. Then, a sharp, icy realization cut right through the fear."Jessica," I said.Ethan's head jerked toward me, his eyes flaring. "What?""The only outsider in this place. The one who stands to benefit most from all this mess. She wants you off-balance. She wants me out of the picture. This accomplishes both." The ideas spilled out, clear and pointed. "She was 'going over security' yesterday. She knew about the silver door. Who else has the entry, the info, and the reason?"Ethan gaped at me like I'd sprouted another head. Then, a mocking, worn-out chuckle slipped from him. "You believe Jessica, a slim she-wolf weighing maybe a hundred and twenty pounds with

Sophia's POVEthan looked exactly like the beast I'd always suspected he was. His eyes shone, and it wasn't just the moonlight bouncing off them—it was the savage side he always tried to keep buried, breaking free. He was triggered by a disloyalty I hadn't even acted on yet, and I was trapped not only by his frame physically pinning me down but by this intense energy radiating from him."I wasn't planning to escape," I fibbed, my voice barely a whisper. "I was frightened. I only wanted to know if there was an option to get away if everything fell apart.""Liar," he exhaled, the accusation burning hot near my mouth. "You wipe out messages from my rivals. You scheme ways out. You tease my brother to get back at me. You believe I don't notice the scheme you're running?""It's not some scheme!" The response burst from me, driven by fear that was fast shifting into fury. "You caged me! You flaunted Jessica right in my face! You act like I'm a captive one second and your most prized possess

Chapter 42Sophia's POVI just prayed Ethan wouldn't spot the glow from the phone while I read Victor's message to me.The moon uncovers every truth. Did he know about Ethan and Marcus? Did he know about the ability simmering in my hand, the force I couldn't rein in? Head for the silver door. An exit. A precise, arranged getaway path for the exact instant when things would spiral into total disorder.I erased the message and shut the phone down, my pulse pounding in my chest. I tucked it back under the pillow, the casing now seeming warm against my fingers. Ethan stirred next to me, a soft exhale slipping from his mouth in slumber. Even asleep, his arm draped territorially across my hip.I passed the following day in a heightened state of alertness. Every look, every murmured exchange among pack members seemed charged with meaning. The atmosphere itself had a sharp, electric tang, like the hush right before a bolt of lightning. T

Sophia's POVThe words lingered in the air, connecting us all. They were half-brothers. It suddenly clicked why Ethan had been so hostile toward poor Marcus all along.Ethan appeared to hold Marcus responsible for every bad thing in his life. He likely viewed him as a constant reminder of something he'd rather forget. The one flaw in his parents' story.Ethan looked just as stunned as I felt, his gray eyes bulging under the impact of Marcus's revelation. He'd thrown it out there as a guess, a last-ditch effort to make sense of Ethan's harshness, but Ethan's response wasn't what I'd anticipated—the way he froze completely, in a chilling way, just proved it was real.Ethan didn't push back against it. He shifted his gaze to me."Head inside," he ordered, but I stayed put."Sophia. Right now." This time, laced with his alpha authority.Marcus edged a bit in front of me, a shielding move that only fueled Ethan's fury. "This doesn't alter how you've been treating her, Ethan. It just sheds

Ethan's POVThose words weren't a challenge but a promise, a subtle threat of what Ethan owns, and even Sophia looked stunned by what he had said.It felt like he'd just knocked the wind out of me for a second. I couldn't wrap my head around the absurdity spilling from his mouth as I stared at my brother, my rival from the very beginning. My gaze kept shifting from him to Sophia, who still seemed shocked. They had some kind of agreement. A scheme. While I was sinking in the mess of the bond, they'd been secretly putting together an escape plan for just the two of them, heading off to some perfect getaway. The betrayal hit so hard, delivered so ruthlessly, that it shut down my ability to think straight. The animal inside me surged forward."You..." I muttered, the word coming out as a deep growl. "You've been scheming this. All along. Your training sessions, your hushed talks... it was all building up to this. You were just bidin
