I woke up the next day and got a message from Giofré, asking for the address of my apartment building so he could pick me up. Despite my reluctance, I gave it to him for I thought this had something to do with our search for Valerie. I knew that if we worked together, we could easily find her so I put all my faith in us.
As I glanced at the clock on my bedside table and noticed the time, I slipped my feet inside my boots and grabbed my coat on the rack. I glimpsed at myself for the last time in the mirror, took some deep breaths, before tugging my lips to a half-smile, whispering to myself that everything would be okay and we would find Valerie.
“Just hold on, Val. We’ll do anything we can to find you,” I whispered to myself and went out of my room to head down.
As soon as I reached the bottom of the stairs, Aunt
“Portia’s right. We’re running out of time, that's why we need to find her right now,” Giofré said while he clenched his jaws. He snatched the paper out of my hands, crumpled it, and tossed it on the ground before he turned his back on us. “The beta who gave this to me. Maybe he knows where Valerie is,” Lucas concluded as I nodded. “Of course, he does. He’s probably the one who wrote that letter.” I pointed at the crumpled paper on the ground. “But why would your pack’s beta, possibly, kidnap Valerie? As far as I’m aware you all have welcomed her into your pack. At least that’s what I thought.” Then I looked at Lucas who just avoided my gaze. When no one replied, Giofré cleared his throat and moved closer to him.

I stretched my upper body and squinted my eyes before I reached for my phone seated on the table at the side of my bed. I furrowed my brows from seeing Giofre’s caller I.D. flashed on the screen. It’s like seven o’clock in the morning?

I took my phone out of my pocket and dialled the cab driver from earlier so I could have a ride home. &nbs
The blazing fury in the eyes of these werewolves made me freeze as I stood, hands quivered in fright, and beads of sweat started to trickle down my temples. They surrounded us, flashing their sharp fangs and augmenting claws that were ready to cut our throats. I tried to stay as close to the agent's Sir Shelton brought me, but when someone grasped my arm tight, pulling me away from the rest of them, I flinched. I tried to free myself from the grip but he was too strong that he easily dragged me out of the area. Those agents were left standing alone in the middle of the forest, surrounded by these werewolves in the pack that was ready to pounce and devour them.
I wasn’t used to seeing some lifeless bodies lying in front of me, with blood seeping out of the bite mark as they hauled them inside the trenches. They just buried them on the ground as if it was just a normal thing to do. And the misfortune of these agents Sir Shelton sent left me unnerved. I couldn’t help but recall the time when my parents died at the hands of some werewolves. The time when I started believing that such a creature could exist. Now I couldn’t believe that I allied myself to the same creatures that killed my parents. I just didn’t know why I had this gut that told me I could trust them— the gut that continuously convinced me that they weren’t the creatures I assumed they were. And I also weighed the odds that came with working with the rest of them, and if I just complied, then I wouldn&rs
All the werewolves that shot Giofré, Lucas, and Beatrice came out of the trees they were hiding behind. Before they could approach, I crouched beside Giofré and pulled the syringe out of his back. It was, no doubt, wolfsbane injected into their system to make them unconscious. So this was the reason why Tobias had the audacity to confront the alpha; the deltas backed him up.I flitted my eyes up to meet Tobias’s gaze as he crouched beside me. Throwing him a glare, I stood up from the ground and moved away from him. But he was q
Terror sparked in her eyes as her hands fell to her side. Her mouth gaped, bottom lip quivered, and tears rolled down her eyes at the sight of Valerie who was lying unconscious in Giofré’s arm. We didn’t utter a word as we let Mrs. Celeste witness her daughter’s misfortune. Her eyes were glued to her and I could already feel her urge to hold Valerie tight in her arms. She stepped forward closer to Giofré, running her trembling hands along Valerie’s forehead. When she felt the coldness of her skin, she
