Hazel's Point of View

The lecture hall hums with quiet energy as I stand at the front, facing rows of eager faces. A week has passed since our trip to the cave, and the buzz hasn’t died down. The sunlight slants through the tall windows of the lecture hall, casting golden patterns across desks and notebooks. The air smells faintly of paper, ink, and the earthy trace of students who’ve just come in from outside.

I steady my breath and scan the room, letting my fingers lightly trail across the edge of my desk. My notes are already laid out, though I barely need them. I’ve been thinking about this lecture for days, between sleepless nights, research, and thoughts I can’t quite pin down. I push that aside for now.

“Alright, let’s begin,” I say, projecting my voice just enough. A few heads snap up. Conversations quiet. “Today we’re going to look at how runic symbology has evolved in lesser known magical communities, particularly in regions where oral tradition persisted longer than written

Aiden's Point of ViewThe night wraps around us like a thick cloak, and the woods press in with a silence that hums in my ears. I stand beside Drake and Mark at the edge of the forest, the scorched symbol at our feet, still faintly warm in the center. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end. The air feels wrong. Charged. Watched. And then I feel it.A shift, subtle, like the wind pausing mid breath.Mark stiffens. “Did you feel that?”“Yeah,” I murmur, my eyes already scanning the treeline.Something's here.A flicker between the trees. Then I see it.Two burning red eyes pierce through the darkness from deep within the forest. They don’t blink. They don’t shift. They just stare. Fixed directly on us like twin embers floating in the black. And then it moves.Slowly, deliberately, it steps forward from between the trees. A hulking form, tall, broad shouldered, walking upright on two powerful legs. Its body is covered in dark, matted fur that seems to blend into the shadows

Aiden's Point of View The room is quiet now, except for the soft beeping of the monitor beside Abby’s bed. She’s still holding my hand, though her grip has relaxed. Her eyes are closed for a moment, her head resting back against the pillow, but I know she’s not asleep. Just exhausted, emotionally, physically. I don't blame her. The door creaks open, and Nathan steps back in first. He takes one look at us, at the way Abby’s still holding onto me, and gives me a small nod of appreciation. Or maybe approval. Hard to tell with him. He walks to her other side, brushing a hand along her hairline and leaning down to whisper something that makes her crack a tired smile. A few seconds later, there’s another knock, and then the door opens wider. Nicole walks in, followed by Drake and Mark. Nicole looks worn out, there are dark circles beneath her eyes, and one hand rests on her lower back as she moves carefully towards Abby. Drake gives me a curt nod of his head as he closes the door behind

Aiden's Point of View The cheap motel room is dimly lit, the only illumination spilling in from the flickering neon sign outside the window. I sit on the edge of the bed, elbows on my knees, staring blankly at the muted television playing some late night show I haven't been paying attention to. The stale scent of cigarettes clings to the walls, even though I don’t smoke. My phone buzzes on the nightstand. I ignore it at first, probably another call from Drake or Nicole, maybe even Mark. They’ve been relentless. I rub my eyes, the bags beneath them sore and heavy from yet another night of no sleep. I haven’t slept properly in over a week. Not since I walked away from it all. The phone buzzes again, this time followed by a soft chime. A different tone. A news alert. I lean over slowly and pick it up, unlocking the screen with a swipe of my thumb. “Breaking: Attack on Gray Mountain Pack —Several Injured, Beta Hospitalized.” The breath is knocked from my lungs. Gray Mountain. Abb

Drake's Point of ViewThe late afternoon sun casts long shadows through the blinds of my office window, painting faint golden lines across my desk. But I barely notice them. My mind is elsewhere, racing, restless. It’s been a week since Aiden took off. A full seven days of silence. Seven days of unanswered calls, unread texts, and this heavy, gnawing guilt I can’t seem to shake off.I stare at my phone on the desk like it might change its mind and ring back. My thumb hesitates over his name one more time. Before I hit call again. It rings.Once.Twice.Again and again. No answer. The usual.I exhale hard through my nose and drop the phone onto the desk with a frustrated thud, raking a hand through my hair. The silence in the room feels louder than ever. My thoughts are a tangle of what ifs and should haves, looping in circles with no clear end.A knock at the door pulls me out of it.“Come in,” I call, straightening up in my chair just a little.Nicole and Abby walk in. Abby’s express

Aiden's Point of ViewThe first thing I feel when I wake up is the heavy weight in my chest, not from sleep, but from everything else. The room is quiet, dim, the curtains barely holding back the morning light. I open my eyes slowly, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling of the hotel room. The other side of the bed is empty. Of course it is. She's gone. Just another nameless face I let close for a few hours last night, hoping she’d blur out the ache clawing at my insides.I drag a hand down my face and sit up, the sheets tangled around my waist, the room still smelling faintly of perfume and bourbon. I should feel something, guilt, shame, anything, but mostly I feel numb. And exhausted. Not physically. I’m used to that. It’s the pretending that’s draining me. Pretending to be the strong one, the reliable one. The perfect Beta.A humorless laugh escapes me as I stare at the dead phone on the nightstand. No missed calls, no messages. Not that I expected any. With a frustrated sigh, I swi
