LOGINEthan froze, disbelief rendering him completely silent as his mind struggled to process what he had just heard. Had the living Yama truly asked him to marry him? The words felt impossible absurd and unreal like something his broken mind had invented to escape the pain. He stared at Damien desperately, waiting for him to correct himself, to reveal that it was nothing more than a cruel joke. But Damien said nothing. His expression remained calm, composed, and terrifyingly serious, offering Ethan no escape from the reality of what had just been said.
And suddenly, Ethan laughed.
The sound was weak and unsteady, bordering on hysteria, and the movement sent sharp pain shooting through his ribs. Still, he couldn’t stop. The absurdity of the situation overwhelmed him completely. This man the most feared businessman in the country, the living Yama himself was standing in front of him, proposing marriage as if it were nothing more than a simple transaction.
“You…” Ethan breathed between broken laughter, his voice trembling. “You want to marry me?”
Damien did not react. Not even a flicker of emotion crossed his face.
It was then that Ethan’s laughter began to die, the sound fading into nothing as cold realization took its place. Damien wasn’t joking. He wasn’t smiling or mocking him, nor was he impatient or irritated. He was serious. Completely and utterly serious. The truth of it sent cold fear crawling down Ethan’s spine, tightening around his chest until it became difficult to breathe.
Ethan shook his head immediately, panic rising within him. “No… no, that’s…” His voice cracked under the weight of his fear and confusion. “I can’t.”
Damien’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he repeated the single word, “you Can’t?” His voice was calm, but it carried quiet pressure, forcing Ethan to confront the weight of his refusal.
Ethan swallowed hard, his fingers curling into fists against the cold concrete floor as though anchoring himself. “I’m not gay,” he said quickly, instinctively, the words leaving his mouth like a shield he hoped would protect him from whatever this was.
Silence followed.
Damien simply stared at him, his gaze unreadable, as though Ethan had said something insignificant. There was no surprise, no anger or disappointment, to suggest Ethan’s answer had affected him at all. For the first time, Ethan felt completely exposed. Not because of his injuries or the humiliation of his imprisonment, but because this man was looking at him as though his refusal didn’t matter.
Then, slowly, Damien smirked.
“I’m not interested in you,” he said calmly.
The words struck Ethan with unexpected force. Relief came first, immediate and instinctive. But it was quickly followed by humiliation, sharp and bitter. Damien took a slow step forward, his polished shoes echoing softly against the concrete floor, his presence alone enough to make the air feel heavier.
“Do not misunderstand,” Damien continued, his voice cold and precise. “This marriage is not about attraction.”
“It is about utility.”
Ethan’s breathing grew uneven under the weight of those words. Damien crouched slightly, bringing himself closer to Ethan’s level, his composure unshaken, his authority absolute.
“You have something I need,” Damien said.
Ethan frowned weakly, confusion mixing with exhaustion and pain. “I have nothing,” he replied hoarsely.
Damien’s smirk deepened, his cold eyes never leaving Ethan’s face.
“You have your name.”
You are Ethan Vale,” Damien continued. “The legitimate son of the Vale family.”
The words felt like knives twisting into old wounds.
“That name still holds power,” Damien said quietly. “Power your uncle was so desperate to steal that he framed you for murder.”
Ethan’s eyes widened.
“How”
Damien raised a hand slightly, silencing him without touching him.
“I know everything,” Damien said.
The confidence in his voice left no room for doubt.
“I know Stanley Vale betrayed you. I know your brother helped him. And I know exactly how they destroyed your life.”
Ethan’s chest tightened painfully as he said “It doesn't still explain why you want to get married to me”.
Well it's Because,” Damien said, standing tall, his body radiating hatred, he continued “Your uncle Stanley has wronged me and I need your help to make him pay as you are the key for my Revenge “.
The key?” Ethan whispered, disbelief and fear clashing inside him.
“Yes,” Damien said simply. “You are the heir to the Vale legacy. Your blood, your name, your influence all of it matters. You exist in the perfect position to help me dismantle the Hale empire. And in exchange… you survive. You leave this prison alive. Perhaps even stronger than before.”
Ethan’s body shook. Fear made his mind race, but exhaustion and powerlessness made his body still. “You… you want me to… help you… destroy my own family?”.
Damien chuckled “Family, you say?, the same people that put you here and left you abandoned?”, his eyebrows raised as he looked at Ethan in amusement. The words hit Damien like a dagger in the chest but it was the truth.
Damien’s gaze lingered on him a moment longer. “Think carefully, Ethan Vale, Time is not on your side.”He did not wait for a response.
As far as Damien was concerned, the offer had been made. Whether Ethan accepted or refused was simply a matter of time.
Damien turned and began walking toward the door, his polished shoes echoing against the cold concrete floor. The door opened, Ethan's breathing grew uneven as panic and desperation clawed at his chest. He knew what awaited him if Damien walked out of that door and never returned. More beatings, humiliation and endless suffering in this hell disguised as a prison. His lips parted.
“I accept.”Damien stopped,His cold eyes fell on Ethan once more, I’ll marry you,” Ethan repeated, now understanding that anything was better than the hell hole he was in now, even making a deal with the devil.
Damien’s expression darkened, and he looked at Ethan with total disgust .He pointed a finger at him. "So, you know about it?"Ethan raised an eyebrow, completely confused. "Knew about what? Look, I know it seems a bit absurd that I'm asking you for this, but she needs a date really badly. Just let me explain first before you decide."Damien stared at Ethan's pleading expression. He forced himself to calm down, leaning back into his leather chair. "Okay. Explain."Ethan was surprised Damien was actually willing to listen, but he knew he couldn't waste his luck. He cleared his throat and began. "So... Anastasia's grandfather is pressuring her to bring a suitor to his party."Damien cut in, his voice laced with annoyance. "And how is that my business?"Ethan sighed. "Just wait, I'm getting to that part."Damien kept his eyes fixed on Ethan. He thought he knew exactly where this story was heading, and he felt certain that Ethan had been deceived by his friends yet again.Ethan continued,
Ethan stared at Damien, taking in his appearance. His eyes lingered on Damien's well-defined face before settling on the beard he had grown. It looked strange to Ethan because he had never seen Damien with a beard before. Still, he couldn't deny that it made him look even more attractive. The beard gave him a more mature look, making Ethan blush just by looking at him.Damien, on the other hand, couldn't hide his surprise at seeing Ethan standing in his office. He quietly watched as Ethan's eyes wandered over him. When he noticed that Ethan had no intention of speaking or looking away, Damien cleared his throat."Ahem."Ethan immediately snapped out of his thoughts. Realizing he had been staring at Damien for far too long, he quickly looked away in embarrassment."I'm sorry. I zoned out for a moment."Inside, however, he wanted to slap himself.Yeah, right. You zoned out because of his handsome face, he thought. He had no idea how Damien had become even more charming. He looked so att
Ethan took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. It's just a passcode, right? No need to panic. He glanced back to see if the receptionist was still waiting. She was. When they made eye contact, he offered her another small smile, which she quickly returned. As he turned back to the keypad, he didn't notice the faint blush on her cheeks. She had been admiring him from the moment he walked in. Staring at his back, she couldn't help but wonder how he had managed to charm their notoriously cold boss. Even after seeing the press conference video, she hadn't believed the negative rumors for a second. She just had a gut feeling that there was still something deep between them.Looking at Ethan's broad shoulders and his neatly styled blonde hair, she thought dreamily, He's so handsome. I really don't blame the boss at all.Her starry-eyed admiration was a complete contrast to what Ethan was actually feeling. He was practically begging her to leave in his head. Why is she still stan
Ethan stood there in silence as the reality of what he had just promised dawned on him. He face-palmed in frustration. "Why did I say yes? How on earth am I going to convince Damien now?"He sat down, letting out a long sigh, but then he shook his head. "No, I have to do this for Anna. She has done too much for me to just ignore her when she needs help."Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, he stood up and walked into the guest room he had been staying in. He put on a pair of jeans and a clean top. He also took the time to trim his overgrown beard. He wasn't entirely sure why he was suddenly caring so much about his appearance, but deep down, he wanted to look good for Damien. He didn't want Damien to think his life had become a complete mess since their fallout.Once he was ready, he walked out of the house and hailed a cab.As he arrived at the company, Ethan felt a wave of anxiety wash over him. Walking into the reception area, he couldn't help but feel incredibly nervous. He vi
Anastasia hesitated to continue as she turned to her father. Dimitri gave her a thumbs-up to keep going. Smiling secretly, Anastasia began to fake-cry, sniffing as she stammered, "I... I don't know how to tell you this, Ethan. It's just..."Ethan grew apprehensive. He didn't like Anastasia's tone; the Anastasia he knew was always strong and never cried without a major reason. Something terrible must have happened. "Just what, Anna? Trust me, you can tell me anything."Anastasia sniffled again. "Next week is my grandfather's birthday, Ethan, and my dad is pressuring me to bring a wealthy partner. The entire family is treating me like trash, calling me useless. I'm so tired, Ethan. All because of a man?"Ethan was dumbfounded. He had always assumed Anastasia was completely spoiled by her father. The Dimitri he saw at their graduation seemed wrapped around his daughter's finger. How had he changed so suddenly? "But why are they pressuring you to bring a suitor? You just graduated—isn't i
Ethan's thoughts were completely filled with one particular man. I wonder what he's doing right now, he thought to himself.Meanwhile, Kristen was busy talking about a date with his high school crush, whom he had recently run into. "Jessica is even prettier now, but I don't know if I'm ready for something serious right now. She asked me out on this date, and I feel like it's her way of showing she wants a real relationship. What do you think?"Kristen turned to his friend, wanting some advice on his relationship drama. He immediately became annoyed when he realized Ethan was completely lost in thought. "This dick , he's not even listening to me," Kristen muttered. However, his annoyance quickly turned into mischief. A playful plan popped into his head. He began swimming quickly toward Ethan.Ethan, who was still daydreaming about Damien, suddenly caught movement out of the corner of his eye. He tried to stand up from his wooden chair, but he was too late. Within a second, he was comp
A small smile automatically appeared on Ethan’s face as he relaxed, the heavy thoughts of Damien and the photo finally fading into the back of his mind. He was surprised to see Kai standing there. "Oh, you're here?"Kai nodded. "Yes. I was exercising and needed to... release some stress, you know?
The final bell of the day usually felt like a victory, but for Ethan, it sounded like a death toll. He walked toward the school exit, his stomach tied in knots. He had no idea how he was going to face Damien, let alone ask the man to tutor him. It felt like crawling back to a lion and asking it to
Ethan entered the room, his heart pounding against his ribs. He didn't want to be anywhere near Damien for now. Ever since that night, he had started to see the man in a completely different light. He slumped onto his bed, staring at the ceiling. "Fuck, I shouldn't have left," he muttered to the e
Ethan soon got home, feeling truly exhausted. As he entered, he unintentionally scanned the room for a furry little being named Leo. Anna, hearing the door open from the kitchen, shouted, "Who's there?"She stepped out of the kitchen and smiled when she saw Ethan. "Oh child, you're back home! How w
