Mag-log inEthan was awake the next morning as Anna knocked on the door. He quickly sat up and Anna entered. She greeted him good morning and told him to come downstairs for breakfast; she added that if he couldn't walk, she'd be glad to assist him, but he politely declined, saying he felt better that Dr. Richard attended to his injuries yesterday.
Anna said, "Oh, no problem, but make sure you come downstairs to eat."
Anna left later. Ethan then lied down back, feeling the soft bed. He said, "This is better than being in the cold cell."
He went to shower and freshened up. He limped as he went down; his injuries had just started healing, but they were not fully healed. He saw guards stationed in the living room, their expressions tense and cold; neither of them even looked at him. Anna saw him and said, "Come, come."
Ethan got to the dining and sat down. He was surprised at the different delicacies of food there. Anna laughed seeing his expression. She said, "Eat up, child. The food is all yours."
Ethan widened his eyes. "All for me?"
She smiled and nodded. Ethan picked his spoon and started to eat small, but the food was delicious. He didn't know when he started to eat fast, grains of rice falling from his mouth. Anna looked at him in pity, seeing how he was eating; it was obvious that he had been starved.
Ethan noticed Anna's gaze and realized that he had been eating rushed. He stopped eating and apologized, "I'm sorry for my ill manners."
Anna rushed to tell him, "Child, no, don't apologize. It's okay, I understand. And Sir Damien instructed for you to be well fed."
Ethan, hearing that, started to feel Damien isn't that bad. He was grateful.
BLACKWOOD GROUP
In the boardroom in Blackwood Group, Elijah was seen trying to calm the board of directors, but it was all to no avail as they were furious and requesting to see Damien. One man, Mr. Grayson, looked at Elijah.
"What nonsense is this? We asked to see the CEO. Why is it you, the mere assistant, that's answering us? This is unacceptable!"
Elijah said, "Calm down, the CEO is on his way."
Grayson doesn't calm down; instead, he erupted, saying, "The CEO has no respect for us!"
Damien walked in and said, "Kindly repeat what you said, Grayson."
As the directors saw Damien walk in, they quickly turned quiet. Even Grayson was quiet; he stammered as Damien's cold eyes were on him. Grayson said, "Nothi...ing, sir. I said nothing, don't mind me."
Damien sat down and said, "Can I know why you all are committing a nuisance in the company, shouting like mad dogs?"
They were all visibly offended by the way he addressed them, but they knew not to cross him. Grayson, seeing Damien's confusion, spoke up and said, "Sir, we called you here because of a serious issue. A photo leaked to one of our directors."
Damien furrowed his eyebrows, wondering what was his business with a photo delivered to a director. Grayson said, "Sir, you'll understand upon seeing the photo."
He passed the photo to Damien. Damien frowned seeing the contents; it was a photo of him carrying Ethan in his arms in front of Metropolis Prison. Grayson, seeing Damien's silence, said, "Can you explain who that man is, sir?"
Damien looked at Grayson with a cold gaze. He stood up and walked to the window, his back facing the directors. "And when did my personal affairs become any of your business?"
This left the directors speechless. They refused to let it go down like that. Grayson said, "But sir, what if the photo leaked online? It would cause controversies around you and could affect the company and our shares."
Damien didn't turn back; he only said, "Hmmm, I see. Since ten years ago that I've been put in power, has any of your shares been affected? Tell me."
No one made a sound, as it was the truth; Damien brought the Blackwood Group to where it was today. Damien stood at the window, his back still turned to them, not hearing any response. He turned and looked at them all. "Let this be the last time any of you interfere in my personal affairs, or you'll have yourselves to blame."
With that, he left with Elijah following behind him.
The Vale Manor
Light opens in the Vale Manor. A fat old man was being caressed by two young ladies; he was being fed by them when suddenly a man rushed into the room. The man was irritated at the interruption. He shouted at his assistant that just burst into the room, "You fool! How many times have I told you not to interrupt my sessions?"
The assistant apologized to his boss, "I'm sorry, sir. It was important, that's why."
The boss asked angrily, "What could be so important?"
The assistant signaled to his boss, "It can't be said here, sir."
The man called out to the ladies, "Beautiful damsels, please go and have fun in the living room. I'll join you soon."
They obeyed and went. The man then said, "Speak."
The assistant said, "Sir, I received a call from Officer Rockwell that your nephew, Ethan, has been released from prison."
Stanley threw the wine glass he was sipping from on the ground. He shouted, "What? How is that possible? Who released him?"
The assistant said, "I asked him also, sir, but he said he has no idea. The higher-ups are the ones in charge and have decided to keep it a secret."
Stanley was disturbed by this. He started pacing around the room. He then ordered his assistant, "Call Roger. Tell him to find Ethan by all means, and if they find him, they should kill him. He's caused me enough trouble."
The assistant said, "Okay, sir," and left the room.
Stanley looked into nothing at all, saying, "Oh dear nephew, you're so eager to see your parents and I'll grant your wish".
Damien looked at the two men lounging in his executive chairs, letting out a heavy sigh as he walked over and sat down at his desk. "Are you two looking for trouble? What was the meaning of that ridiculous prank?"The visitors were Jake Hartmann, the son of Donald Hartmann, a prominent mogul in the oil and gas industry, and Milo Reed, a quieter man whose calm exterior masked a deeply playful personality.Damien was thoroughly annoyed that these two had completely derailed his afternoon plans with Ethan.Milo replied, leaning back and staring at Damien with an amused grin. "Chill out. We just wanted to surprise you. We’ve missed you, man. If I remember correctly, it’s been years since the three of us last hung out."Damien merely snorted in response and booted up his computer. Ready to bury himself in work and ignore them entirely, he decided that since they had ruined his time with Ethan, they didn't deserve a single second of his attention.Jake let out a dramatic huff. "So that's it
Ethan looked at Damien, a faint smile on his lips as the pieces finally came together. "Alright, so that's what this is all about. Well, we can go anywhere you want. After all, I'm the one taking you shopping." Damien turned to the front seat and gave a brief instruction to the driver. "Go to the Drain Mall." When the luxury vehicle pulled into the commercial district, the driver smoothly navigated into the VIP parking area. Ethan and Damien stepped out of the car and headed toward the main entrance. While they were walking, the bodyguard accompanying them hurried ahead to speak with the facility's administration. By the time Ethan and Damien reached the threshold, the entire shopping center had already been completely secured and emptied of the public. The guard returned to Damien’s side, bowing his head respectfully. "Boss, it's done." Damien gave a curt nod and gestured for Ethan to lead the way inside. As they crossed into the grand lobby, Ethan wasn't at all surprised to see

Ethan woke up early the next morning. Having taken Damien’s strict academic lecture to heart, he had actually remembered to set his alarm the night before. Despite only getting a few hours of sleep, he didn’t feel tired at all. Instead, he felt oddly refreshed and was in a wonderfully lighthearted mood as he headed downstairs to the dining room."Good morning, Anna," Ethan greeted her with a bright smile, pulling out a chair and sitting down. He glanced over at the empty head of the table where Damien usually sat. "Is Damien not having breakfast today?"An unexpected urge to see the man had suddenly bubbled up inside him.Anna smiled warmly, setting down a plate of food in front of him. "Well, you know how busy he is. He had to leave the manor very early this morning, he—" She stopped mid-sentence, the name Ethan had used suddenly registering in her mind. Her eyes blinked in surprise. "Wait... what did you just call him?"Ethan froze, realizing too late that he had gotten so used to c
Inside the darkened main building, Elijah woke up from his brief rest. He had slept well, but a parching thirst woke him, prompting him to start his routine midnight check around the estate before heading back to bed. He made his way to the massive kitchen to pour himself a glass of water.Glancing out of the sprawling floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the gardens, he froze. Two distinct figures were moving through the shadows near the garden.Elijah blinked, thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him. He instinctively stepped back into the shadows and slipped a hand down to the grip of the handgun tucked securely in the waistband of his trousers. Wait, who the hell is out there? Intruders? He tracked the silhouettes until the soft perimeter floodlights illuminated the path, catching the unmistakable sharp jawline of his boss. The boss? But who is that with him?Elijah’s jaw dropped. Through the glass, he watched in utter disbelief as Damien opened his arms and pulled Ethan i
The interior of the SUV was a silent vault, but inside, Ethan was a storm. His palms were slick against the fabric of his school trousers, and his heart felt like a trapped bird beating against his ribs. He had been informed that he was going to the press conference."Don’t say anything irrational,
Ethan heard Stephen's voice behind him the very voice he had been trying to avoid. Then he turned back."I knew it!" Stephen exclaimed, his face lighting up with polished warmth. "I knew I’d recognize that golden hair anywhere."The hair again, Ethan thought bitterly. First thing tomorrow, I’m dyin
Damien got into the car, aware that Ethan was behind him. Earlier, he had spoken with Elijah and made it clear that Ethan was to be taken elsewhere after the press conference, Damien had other matters to attend to. When Elijah relayed this to Ethan, Damien caught the flicker of disappointment on hi
The car glided toward a towering structure of glass and chrome that seemed to pierce the very clouds.
