LOGINThe moment I left the clinic, the world felt smaller.
I was carrying twins and I didn't know how to tell their father because I didn't know who he was. I sobbed as I walked home Two heartbeats. Two tiny lives depending on me. “How am I supposed to do this?” I thought as I walked home. That same day,I went to work avoiding everyone as much as possible. Every glance at my stomach made me feel like they had already found out the truth. My supervisor saw me and beckoned on me. “Hey, Elowen Hartwell. See me in my office”. I felt a surge of fear. I wondered what was packaged for me. I looked around. The other employees were staring at me in disgust except for one of my friends that looked at me with concern. I hurriedly went to the supervisor's office. He was a no-nonsense man. I greeted him as I entered. He gestured to a seat and I did so. “You've been abandoning your duties and today you are late for work”. He said sternly. “I…” He interrupted even before I could even say a word and passed me a brown envelope. I looked at him hoping he would say the content of the envelope but he kept mute. I opened it myself. And I froze. It was a damn sack later. “Sir?” I didn't even know how to explain myself. “You may leave”. He said without emotion. I pleaded with him telling him that I had nothing to fall back to. I was just the only one fending for myself. But he paid deaf ears to me. I had no other choice than to leave. The other employees seemed like they knew what was in stock for me because they were jeering at me. My friend, Ana ran up to me. “ Elowen, what's the problem? You have been truant”. “Ana, I don't know. I'd talk to you later”. I said and shoved her by. She stood and stared at me waving a good bye. —---- I had to get a job, especially now that I was expecting babies. Twins. I had promised to protect them. I didn't know how but I'd try. I wasn't scared of Cassian but I was just scared of what would come after. I applied for a job in one of the biggest companies in Seoul and to my greatest surprise, I got the job. The next day, I was dressed corporately, ready to start my first day at work. The HR manager, a plump woman with kind eyes, greeted me warmly. “Elowen, welcome. Let me show you to your desk”. I nodded silently, trying not to look around. And then I froze. Seated across the office was Yura Han. Cassino’s ex. She looked up from her laptop, eyes sharp with a faint smile. Luckily she didn't know me but I had met her once at Grand Haneul. She was everything I was not. Elegant, beautiful, confident and commanding. I looked out and followed the HR to my desk trying to make myself invisible. “So she works here”. I thought to myself. The morning passed with lots of introductions and paperworks. I barely noticed the office chatter because there was just one thing in my mind. The one night stand and the twins. I just wished time could just fly so I could go home. Lunch time came and I left everything I was doing because I was terribly hungry. As I was walking towards the cafeteria. I met Yura again. Her gaze fell on me. I felt my heart jump. She tilted her head slightly. There was nothing malicious about the look she gave me but I could feel it. Yura noticed me. Yura could be trouble and I had no idea how she would react if she ever found out the truth, especially for the fact that I work in the same place with her. I went towards the cafeteria, ordered a light meal and was heading back to my seat with my head bowed thinking of my fate. I bumped into someone and the whole food poured with the glass plates clattering on the floor. I was shocked. “I'm…I'm”. I stuttered trying to use my hands to clean up the mess I did until I looked up and froze. Standing in front of me was Cassino Blackmoor. “Do I know you?” He asked. “Yes..No…um…no…we've never met”. I stuttered. “Who are you?” I asked even after lying. “I am the CEO of this company”. He said with a grin. I gasped. “Meet me in my office”. He said and I walked away. I froze at that spot.Beeeep- beeeep- beeeep.I came back to consciousness in pieces and the first thing that I heard was the sharp beeping of a monitor, then light and I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen.“Mmmh”. I groaned trying to move.“Elowen, Don't move”. Cassian said with a rough voice.I felt relieved when I saw him.“I'm here”. He said but this time in a softer tone.My hands flew instinctively to my stomach.“My babies…”. I croaked.“They are okay”,Cassian said immediately.“Both of them”.I heaved a big sigh of relief and tears slid down my temples.Doctor Wright came in and told me that I had frightened them.“The twins are strong”. She said,“What happened?” I said in whispers.“Stress-induced contraction”, she explained. “Your body is under so much pressure”.Her eyes flickered briefly to Cassian. She told him that emotional stress can be dangerous as physical traumas and guilt flashed across his face.“I'll give you both privacy”. She said before stepping out.Cassian sat beside the bed with
“The twins are part of an unresolved engagement contract”.The sentence replayed in my head that night until my chest ached.I could not sleep that night. In the morning, the house felt so different. Tenser like something bigger was going to happen.—--Cassian called for an emergency meeting before breakfast and different lawyers arrived in black cars. Both men and women with calm faces and dangerous intelligence.I sat quietly at the end of the long table. While Cassian stood at the head with a commanding and controlling aura.“This claim has no legal standing”, one of the lawyers said confidently.“Children can't be bound to a business agreement”.“Unless”, another added slowly, “the engagement contract included a future heir clause”.My heart skipped.Cassian's eyes darkened and he squeezed his fists in rage.“She wouldn't dare”, he said.“Mmmh…she already has”, the lawyer replied, looking through the brim of his eye glass and sliding a document forward.I stared at the paper. It
“Is she right?”I asked softly this time. A..about the engagement”.The sentence Yura made kept ringing in my head as I looked up to Cassian in expectation of a good answer.“Yes”. He finally said. And it felt like a sledgehammer hit me.“But not the way she made it sound”. He said quickly.Cassian made me follow him to a quiet living room with a floor to ceiling windows.Cassian narrated how his father was expanding into Asia. then, Korean was critical. And Yura's family controlled access.I sat down slowly.“Was she part of a deal?”, I whispered.“Yes,” he admitted. “An engagement arranged by our families”.Cassian told me that he doesn't love Yura. He told me how she threatened him and how his father paid for silence and sent him to London when she threw herself on the stairs and claimed that he pushed her.“What about the company?” I asked. He looked at me.“I still own part of it”. He admitted.“My father insisted. He said it was a "leverage”.“What? Leverage over who?” I asked
"Are you hurt, Huh?” Cassian said standing at the doorway and scanning me from head to toe. I was so dumbfounded. My phone fell from my hands and hit the floor between us and Cassian picked it up and read the screen. His face changed and his calmness vanished as soon as he started reading the message on my phone.“Who sent this?” He asked calmly.“I.. I don't know,” I whispered. “I feel like they knew things about you. About Korea”.Cassian looked at me for a while and said “Come with me”.I followed him without asking any questions.“You didn't tell me everything”, I said softly.“You are right”. Cassian admitted. He poured himself a drink but didn't offer me one. He told me that Korea was supposed to be a chapter that was buried.“There was a business expansion and strategic alliance”. He said.“A woman?” I asked and he nodded. He told me the woman was Yura Han and my heart skipped. I felt a sting of jealousy. He told me that Yura Han wasn't just his girlfriend but she was chose
"Cassian please…”I typed. No reply yet.The door opened wider and a stranger came in wearing a suit that was too clean for a friendly visit.I gasped moving backwards.“Miss Hartwell,” he said calmly.“My name is Mr. Grant. We just want to talk with you”.“I…I don't know you”. I stuttered.“That's quite unfortunate but I'm here to take you somewhere safe”. He said with an awkward grin.“Same from who?” I asked instinctively.“Somewhere safe from people like me”. He answered.I looked around with my side eyes trying to escape from the windows but he warned.—--Inside Blackmoor tower, Cassian kept trying to reach out to me but there was no response or even signal. He signaled the security man to track her device and he discovered that they've got Elowen.—-Back inside my apartment, Grant stepped forward, appearing with two other men blocking the exit.“Get away from me”, I yelled.Grant told me that they were following orders of someone from the past.I hesitated and tried running. B
"Oh my gosh, she didn't tell you?” She said mockingly. “Your precious Elowen collapsed right in the waiting room”.Cassian walked right close to me.“Is that true huh?”I didn't know what to say. There was no way I could tell him that I was pregnant and talk more about telling him that I was pregnant. Never!!!“I was t.. tired”. I finally said.“Haha, do people now faint when they are tired?”Yura laughed mockingly.“Enough!!”. Cassian roared at her.He came close to me and held my hands.Yura watched him do that in great bewilderment.I could say hate and jealousy in her eyes.“You have not held anyone like that before”. Yura said with a tone of jealousy.Cassian ignored and kept persuading me to open up.Yura instead intervened.“She fainted from shock”. She said, twirling her hair.“What shocked her?”Cassian asked with raised eyebrows.“Mmmh, it seems she hasn't told you”.“Stop!!” I cried.“Elowen is pregnant”. Yura bursted out smiling evilly at me.Cassian staggered back, looke
