FINNIAN

I later came to see Elsa. She had finally calmed down, and for the first time in hours, I saw a faint smile on her lips. When Eve walked in, Elsa practically threw herself into her arms. Her laughter was small, but it was there... soft, tired, and real.

I hoped she’d find happiness too. She deserved that much.

Daze stayed by the door, pretending not to care, though his eyes lingered on her every move. I didn’t push him anymore. The bond between them was his battle, not mine.

The door opened, and two familiar scents filled the room... sweet berries and lavender. Arianna and Marie stepped in, each carrying a tray. One held bowls of hot stew, roasted meat, and another bowl of rice. The other carried fruits which were apples, grapes, sliced peaches, and a jug of wine.

Elsa blinked in surprise. I did too.

She had just complained about being hungry, and Eve had almost gone to fetch her food. So how did these two get here first?

Arianna’s eyes met mine for a second before she quickly

FINNIANThe morning came faster than I expected. The sound of birds was the first thing that tore through the quiet. Their sharp chirps echoed over the forest, waking everyone one after another. I pushed myself up, brushing off the sand and crushed leaves clinging to my body. My back ached from the hard ground, but I didn’t complain. Pain was a companion I’d long gotten used to.Just as I reached for my cloak, something slammed inside my chest. My breath caught.A sudden, hard throb ran through me like claws digging straight into my heart.I gasped, my vision dimmed for a second, and then I stumbled back, coughing until my throat burned.“Prince!” one of the warriors yelled, running to me.The others followed instantly, alarm spreading through them like wildfire.“What’s happening, Prince?” another asked, gripping my arm to keep me steady.Daze and Jared rushed to me. Jared shoved a wooden jug into my hand. I drank fast, too fast, the water running down my throat like I hadn’t tasted

FINNIANTwo massive wolves burst out of the thick bush. Their roars tore through the air, howls echoing together like thunder. The wind they summoned lifted leaves, dust, and dirt, blinding our eyes, making our horses stagger and neigh.“Cover your eyes! Cover your eyes!” I yelled, my voice slicing through the chaos. My men obeyed instantly. When the wind finally died down, I blinked through the dust, locking eyes with the two wolves standing before us. Same height. Same thick gray fur. Same blood-red stare. They had to be twins.Jared leaped off his horse before I could speak. “I’ll take them down, Prince. They’re nothing, they are just making empty noises.”I didn’t stop him. I wouldn’t waste thirty warriors on two pathetic rogues. Let him show me what he’d learned. The wolves moved back in perfect rhythm, then lunged at Jared at the same time. The symmetry in their attack made me raise a brow. Even their movements were identical.Jared swung his sword, metal meeting fur and flesh.

FINNIAN The air outside Rowan’s chamber still clung to me when I got to my building. My head felt heavy, not from the long talk we’d had, but from the shock in his eyes when I agreed to take on his deadly mission without complaining anymore. He didn't expect to go easily. But I did. Because danger never scared me. What scared me was the thought of staying and being broken.Eve and Arianna had already packed all my things... the armor, my sword, extra blades, and the few belongings I had left.“I’m ready to eat now,” I said as I removed my gloves. “Arianna, bring my food.”She bowed quickly and stopped whatever she was pretending to do. Eve, on the other hand, had gone to inform my men that we would leave soon.Minutes later, Arianna returned with a wooden tray. She placed it on the table before me, her head bowed but her eyes were sneaking up to study my face. The smell hit first, spiced roast meat, warm bread, a bowl of thick stew, and a cup of strong ale. My stomach grumbled loud e

FINNIAN My eyes blinked open to the faint light slipping through the tiny window of the cell. Morning. The air was cold, damp, and heavy, but that wasn’t what made my chest tighten, it was the soft weight lying on top of me.I froze. Her breath brushed against my skin, warm and slow, as her face rested against mine. She was still asleep, still snoring quietly like she hadn’t a care in the world.Isolde.How the hell did I end up sleeping besides her?I frowned and tried to shift, but she stirred and mumbled something. Carefully, I slid my arm from under her and turned her on her side, meaning to put her down properly. But she didn’t let go, her hand tightened around me, like I was her lifeline.I sighed, my jaw tightening. I wasn’t supposed to stay. I was supposed to make sure she slept and then leave her alone. Yet here I was, her body against mine, the scent of her all over me.I pulled her close, just enough to catch what she was muttering.“Rowan…” she breathed softly. My chest h

FINNIANDamn it.Why would she cross Velin? Why would she use her power? She should’ve known better. Velin was trying to provoke her. She always does. Isolde should’ve kept her patience like she always did. But no, she had to react. And now look where it got her, locked in that damn cell, and I couldn’t even do anything about it. I couldn’t convince my brother to let me take her to my own building. He didn’t even let me speak on her behalf.Everything was falling apart. And he... my own brother dared to raise his hand at her. The same man who had been playing sweet and gentle with her just days ago.Or was I hallucinating?I stopped outside Isolde’s chamber when I heard soft sobs. My chest tightened. That was Elsa's voice.Don’t tell me she hadn’t stopped crying since it happened.I kicked the door open, the wood banging hard against the wall.Elsa lay on the bed, her head resting on Daze’s lap. Daze looked up quickly and bowed. “Prince.”Elsa jumped to her feet, eyes red and tremblin
