LUCIEN’S POV

"The council elders have called a meeting, Your Majesty."

I looked at the guard.

"They called a meeting?" I said slowly.

"Yes, Your Majesty. They are assembled in the council hall and request your....."

"They request." I looked at him calmly. "The elders called a meeting and are requesting my presence?."

The guard shifted, his eyes darting to the floor. "Yes."

I straightened my shirt. "Tell them I'm coming."

The heavy oak doors of the council hall groaned as I pushed them open with

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 67: Let the Fall Ball Begin

AYLIN'S POV The palace was already humming by the time I woke.I could hear it through my door. Servants rushing past in a blur of footsteps, maids calling instructions down the hall, someone dropping something heavy followed by a burst of laughter. The Fall Ball had finally arrived, and every corner of the palace seemed to feel it.I stayed in bed longer than I should have.I didn't want to face anyone. Not after what I'd said to Lucien. I kept replaying it in my head, how cruel I sounded, how ungrateful, throwing accusations at the one person who had shown me nothing but care since the day I arrived. I'd been mean to the people who loved me when I barely remembered what love felt like anymore.A knock cut through the guilt spiraling in my head.I opened the door to find Seraphine grinning at me, five maids trailing behind her like she'd brought an army.Something in my chest loosened at the sight of her. I'd missed this. Missed her smile, her banter, the easy comfort she brought i

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 66: Will it be the Last Place I'd Ever Stand?

AYLIN'S POV I stood frozen in the ballroom, the echo of my own words ringing louder than anything else around me.I had messed up. I knew that the second the words I told Lucien came out of my mouth."Classic Aylin."The voice slid back into my head, smooth and pleased with itself. "Always tearing down the foundation you've spent months building. Wonderful. It's almost like you actually listen to me.""Stop it.""The voice lives in your mind more than your heart does these days. You're slowly going insane, if you ask me.""Oh god." I pressed both hands against my temples. "I actually am going insane.""Who are you?" I thought it as hard and loudly as I could, like volume alone might force an answer out of it. "What are you? This isn't my voice. I know this isn't my own thoughts. What do you want from me? Please. I've already ruined enough because of you. Please, just leave me alone."The voice went quiet.I stood there a moment longer, waiting for it to come back, almost wishing i

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 65: Hurtful Words.

LUCIEN'S POV "What do you mean by facade, Aylin?"She stepped back from me, arms wrapping around herself like she could hold the words in if she tried hard enough."I mean all of this," she said. "The caring. Everyone being nice to me. Acting like it doesn't matter that I'm human and you're werewolves. It's fake. Why are you doing this? Why are any of you being kind to me? I should be dead. Every other girl who came here before me is dead. So why am I still alive? What are your real intentions?"I stared at her, and for a moment I couldn't find a single word to answer with. I hadn't expected this. Not from her."Are you going to do something to me?" Her voice shook. "I don't understand why I'm still breathing. We're enemies, Lucien. We've always been enemies. So what do you actually want from me?"Something in my chest cracked, quiet and sudden, at the thought that this was how she saw us. How she saw me."All this time," I said slowly, "you believed that I, that Seraphine, that Kae

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 64: Facade?

AYLIN'S POV "Who's there?" My voice cracked against the silence. "Come out. Step into the light."Moonlight spilled through the window, thin and pale, just enough to catch the edges of the room. The eyes stayed exactly where they were. Watching. Then, low and unhurried, a chuckle slid out of the dark.I didn't have time to react before the shadow moved. One blink, and the figure was gone from the corner. Another, and it was at the window, a blur of motion vanishing over the sill and into the night. I ran to it anyway, chest heaving, and caught nothing but the flutter of a cape disappearing into the dark beyond the palace walls."What is going on," I whispered, to no one, to the empty room, to the moon that didn't answer.I sank down against the wall beneath the window, arms wrapped around my knees. If I hadn't been chosen for any of this, none of it would be happening. If my parents were still alive, I wouldn't be here at all, trembling in a palace that wasn't mine, hunted by things

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 63: The Forest

The forest appeared again all around meSilver trees stretched endlessly around me, their leaves catching a light that came from nowhere and everywhere at once. I knew this place. I'd stood among these trees before, chasing a voice that always stayed just out of reach. Not this time. She stood in front of me now, close enough to touch, and for a moment I forgot how to speak. She was silver. Not pale, not gray, but silver in the way moonlight is silver, woven through her hair, her skin, the gown that pooled around her feet like liquid light. She looked like something carved from the night sky itself, radiant enough to light a path through darkness on her own. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life."Hello, Aylin.""You know my name?""Of course I know your name, my child" She smiled."Who are you?" My voice came out smaller than I meant it to. "Where am I?"Her smile widened, the kind of smile that held centuries behind it. "In time, my child, you will know who you truly are

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 62: The Voices Return

AYLIN'S POV The walls felt like they were closing in around me, the surfaces drawing inward with every breath I forced into my throat. Air scraped against my windpipe refusing to settle the burning ache deep within my chest. I slammed the heel of my palm hard against my chest, pressing down as though physical force might manually jump-start my lungs. He's lying. He has to be lying. He just has to.....The denial tasted desperate, sour on the back of my tongue, but a deeper part of my consciousness refused to let the thought rest in peace. Is he, though? How long will you live in denial? The voice came all of a sudden.I dropped heavily onto the edge of the mattress, my fingers clawing into the woven fabric of the sheets until my knuckles turned stark white. Roderick's parting words played in an endless, agonizing loop inside my mind, each repetition sharper and more venomous than the last. Humans and werewolves have always been enemies. You forgot why you were truly here. You forg
