Five Minutes Bride

Chapter Two

Liana’s P.O.V

My eyes fluttered open slowly as I blinked my eyes continuously, I quickly squeezed my eyes shut because of the blinding lights that seeped through my eyelids as soon as I flicked my eyes open. I felt a sharp pain in my head as I placed my hand on my head and wrapped my other hand around myself tightly.

“Where was I? Was in heaven already?” I thought inwardly as the memories of Matilda pushing me from the rooftop flooded my head, causing me to groan. My throat felt dry instantly as soon as I recollected how she pushed me from the rooftop.

The only thing I wanted to do was to tear her apart and make her suffer for being the one behind my murder. But what could I do when I was dead already and I was in another realm?

However, wait for a second, if I was in heaven, why did I feel a sharp pain in my head earlier and why can I hear the sound of the fan creaking slowly plus the train whirring from afar?

My eyes flicked open instantly as I swiveled my gaze around the room, trying to process where I was for a moment. Slowly, it started to dawn on me that I was in the room that I have always stayed in when I was still living with my parents before deciding to move out of the house.

“I must be dreaming, what am I doing here?” I questioned myself as I blinked my eyes continuously, scrutinizing the room with my eyes when I suddenly caught sight of the calendar. I jumped to my feet instantly, sauntering toward the calendar. My eyes almost popped out of my socket when I saw 2018 boldly written on it.

I had barely managed to place one plus one together when the door swung open and the next thing was my parents who rushed into my room with a pink cake as they screamed “Happy Birthday.”

“It is your 22nd birthday and I couldn't be more glad that I gave birth to you. You are the future of the pack and I want you to know that your father and I are proud of you” My mom said cupping my cheeks in her hands while my father placed the cake carefully on the desk as he walked towards me while beaming with a smile.

Never in my whole existence have I been ever frustrated like I was at the moment. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, trying to wrap my head around what could be going on because if I could remember vividly, I was dead and there was no way I would be able to survive that fall from the rooftop! If I could recollect clearly, I had my 22nd birthday years ago and that was the day when I got engaged to Bruce.

Slowly, something popped inside my head as I turned to look at my parents. “Today is my 22nd birthday and I would be getting engaged to Bruce today?”

They both exchanged confused stares with each other before my mom forced out a smile and took my hands in hers. “Of course darling, today is your birthday and you would getting engaged to Bruce”

My mouth slacked open and I was at a loss for words to say because suddenly it dawned on me that I was reborn and the moon goddess had given me a second chance in life. Somehow, I felt this excitement building inside of me because I couldn't wait to make good use of this second chance, set everything right, and most especially, exert revenge on Matilda for what she did to me in the past.

My father jolted me out of my thoughts as he placed a tiara on my head. “I can't just wait for you to get engaged and get married soon” He pinched me on the cheek and as much as I was starting to get comfortable with the love showered on me, I knew that I needed to put an end to the engagement in a way that would leave my parents with no choice than to give in to my demand.

“I am sorry but I need to be somewhere,” I said, rushing out of the room as I made way for a registry, even though I had no idea about what I was doing! I just needed to stop the engagement and I would do anything to make sure that I put an end to it.

Alighting from the taxi, I ran my hands through my hair, obviously having no idea about what to do and for a second, I started to imagine what the hell I was doing at a registry.

Somehow, I found myself dragging my feet into the registry. I swiveled my gaze around the room and caught sight of a lot of couples whose faces were filled with glee. At that moment, I knew that whatever plan I had in mind was never going to work.

I expelled out a sigh, slipping my hands through my hair and I was about to pull my hair out in frustration when I caught sight of a man making a phone call! When he turned toward my direction, my mouth slacked open and I was at a loss for words to say.

His Romanesque nose was accentuated with a high cheekbone and he swept his hair backward with his hands. His hazel eyes gleamed from afar and somehow, I found myself lost in his eyes.

He smacked his lips and I could see a glint of fury in his eyes. There was this cold aura that swirled around him that kind of gave me goosebumps.

“What could he be here for?” I muttered, scrutinizing him with my eyes as I approached him. He didn't look like someone who came for a wedding as he was wearing a white t-shirt and blue shorts.

I had hardly reached where he was standing when I heard him scream.

“You guys are keen on getting me married and the bride isn't here! If the bride doesn't arrive in the next five minutes, I would get married to just anyone and no one is going to stop me!” He snarled while I blinked my eyes continuously, trying to process what I just heard him say.

There was this excitement building inside of me after hearing his words as I fixed my gaze on the clock that was hung on the wall, keeping track of the time.

I glanced toward the entrance, eagerly waiting for his bride to come. Five minutes passed and I mustered the courage that  I had left in me, dragging my feet towards it with my heart beating with trepidation.

I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat, standing before him as he glanced in my direction. His gaze pierced into mine and I found myself lost in his eyes when he raised a brow, I suddenly snapped back to my senses and stretched my hand forward for a handshake.

My face brightened with a smile crept at the corner of my lips “I happened to hear your conversation where you mentioned that if the bride doesn't arrive in the next five minutes, then you would just get married to anyone. Five minutes have already passed, so let me be your bride.”
