Never Come Back

Chapter Three

Conan's P.O.V

I cocked my brow to the left, staring at the lady who stood before me with her hand extended. Her upper lips curled and for a second, I was still trying to process the words that I just heard her say.

Tilting my head to the left, I glanced back and forth between her face and her hand which was still hanging in the air. The way she smiled kind of annoyed me and made me cringe.

"Who are you?" I questioned, accessing her with my eyes from head to toe. She had a bright smile on her face that looked more like it could illuminate the darkest corners of a room as her obsidian black hair tumbled over her shoulders.

After she noticed that I wasn't going to budge in any way or exchange pleasantries with her,  she slipped her hands down her pocket while laughing awkwardly, before clearing her throat.

"I know that I shouldn't be saying this right now and I know it was wrong for me to listen to your conversation but I couldn't just help it. I need your help because I am in a dilemma and with the look of things you need my help as well," She said, bobbing her head slowly while I kept a straight expression on my face.

"The thing is that my parents want me to get married to someone that I don't want to get married to, if we get married, my future is going to be in ruins and that isn't something that I want. The engagement ceremony is today and the only way to stop this is by getting married today" She said, clasping her hands over her chest in a form of a plea.

I fixed my gaze on her, totally at a loss for words to say because the more I thought about it, I needed her help as well! My parents wanted me to get married to someone who I wasn't interested in anyway and the reason why they wanted me to get married to the said lady was that they wanted to strengthen the relationship between the two families.

"Please," She muttered, jolting me out of my thoughts.

I bobbed my head slowly before deciding to talk. "I have pondered deeply on your requests and in the end, I have seen that it doesn't only benefit you but it benefits me as well....."

Her eyes lit up and I was barely done talking when she rushed into my arms and wrapped her hands tightly around me, causing me to blink my eyes continuously. Everything was still and it felt like I was the only one in my world, the sweet scent of her hair, assaulted my senses as I gathered all the strength left in me and pushed her away.

"What was that for?" I almost yelled at her.

"Because I know that you are going to say yes!" She squeaked in excitement.

"Yes, I am but please keep your distance! I am going to get married to you on the condition that you need to sign a contract that you are not going to disclose anything that happened between us here and you can only divorce me after one year, we would sign a contract and if you breach it, you would suffer for the consequences of your action " I said while she ping-ponged her gaze around as if she was thinking it through.

She fixed her gaze back on me with a bright smile on her face. "The only thing that matters to me is that the engagement should be called off "

"Do we have a  deal?"

"Yes, deal!"

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Liana and yours?"

"Conan"

We both got married and signed the marriage certificates that would be used as evidence to prove that we indeed got married to each other. I couldn't be more grateful that I was finally able to put an end to the arranged marriage that my parents wanted to force me into. She pleaded for me to come along with her so that the whole marriage thing would look believable enough.

As much as it looked like she was excited about the whole thing, there was still this glint of fear and anxiousness in her eyes.

We were now in her parent's house and I could see how she fiddled with her fingers as we walked side by side next to each other. She seemed to be lost in her thoughts. I cleared my throat as she turned to look at me with a forced smile.

The way she stared at me caused my heart to skip a beat. I squeezed my eyes shut, biting the corner of my lower lips, trying to get a grip on myself because I couldn't just wrap my head around the sudden effect she had on me.

"Look, I know that you are nervous but I want you to know that I am here. We should make this believable enough " I said, taking her hands in mine while she beamed with a smile, muttering a thank you.

However, she took me by surprise, tugging her hands in mine as she tucked the strand of hair that fell on her face behind her hair. "This is believable enough"

We stood at the door as she placed her hand on the doorknob, twisting it as the door swung open. We were met by silence and darkness and for a second, I was starting to wonder where I was.

"What....." I heard her say. However, before she could finish talking, the lights turned on with a huge scream of surprise resounded in my ear.

A huge cake was in the center of the room with a banner that had the inscription "Would You Marry Me?". An applause followed afterward with people singing a "Happy Birthday song."

I turned to look at her with my brows puckered in confusion. "Today is your birthday?" I questioned with no answer from her and I was kind of taken aback when I saw the glint of coldness and venom in her eyes.

I followed the direction of her eyes and she was glaring at a lady who was twirling the glass of wine in her hands while leaning on the shoulder of a man who smiled brightly.

"Matilda and Bruce......" She gritted her teeth and I was about to ask her what was wrong when she removed her hands from mine and sauntered to the cake. In the blink of an eye, she pushed the cake to the ground, taking a fistful of it and the next thing she did was hurl it at the banner.

My eyes widened and I could hear the gasps from the people that echoed through the air. I was about to walk toward her when she pointed at me, causing me to pause in my track.

"This engagement has been canceled because the man standing there is my husband and we just got married!" She removed the certificate of the marriage and swirled around slowly while showing everyone the marriage certificate.

"What manner of insolence is this? How dare you disrespect me before the pack!" A man who I presumed to be her father yelled as he clenched his fist by his side.

"You are kidding right?"The man who she addressed as Bruce earlier sauntered to her with his eyes widened in shock. She burst into a peal of hysterical laughter and shoved the marriage certificate right on his face before flashing the ring at his face.

He snatched the marriage certificate and tore it into pieces. He attempted to take her by the hands but I stopped him before he could as I slapped his hands off and pulled Liliana closer to me.

"If you dare lay a finger on my wife? I assure you that you would be leaving here in a wheelchair!" I snarled and turned to look at Liana who was staring deep into my eyes.

A scoff escaped his lips as he stared daggers at me.

Slowly and sharply, the stiletto heels on the hard stone floor came back as echoes in my mind. I turned to look in the direction where the sound emanated only to see Matilda standing before Liana and me, glaring at Liana who glared at her in return before accessing me with her eyes.

"Of all the people you could get married to, you got married to a low life like this man, you left someone like Bruce to get married to this pauper wearing flip-flops? Do you know that you are the future Luna? How dare you bring great disrespect to this family's name!" Matilda scolded and she was about to raise her hands and hit Liana in the face when I grabbed her by the wrist.

"You wouldn't dare!" I glared as we both stared daggers at each other.

"Stop this nonsense now!" Liana's father yelled and ambled towards her with so much anger in his eyes.

"You have disappointed me, great and you are the reason why your mother is crying in the bedroom right now! You have humiliated me and even if you wanted to get married, you could have told me" His eyes gleamed.

"Father...." Liana attempted saying but he cut her short before she could finish her statement.

"From today henceforth, you are no longer my daughter and you are no longer the heir to the company and this pack as well. Leave and never come back!"
