Elena’s POV

The cartoon went on for a while, and all the time, I just sat there. Stiff.

Only moving when Ethan would occasionally tap me to get my attention to something he found amusing.

I was grateful for it because the distraction was the only thing keeping me from committing a ravenous act of unholiness.

But then after a while, his soft laughter began to fade, softening into small hums as he played with my fingers.

His lashes began fluttering, heavy with sleep, though I could see he was fighting it with deep stubbornness.

His breathing began to slow down, and a moment later, his head tipped against my arm, his curls brushing softly against my skin.

His hand slipped, landing on my skin with a low thud.

“Mama.” He breathed into my skin, drawing a warm smile from my lips as I carried him to settle on my thigh.

Within moments, the room that had been filled with his chatter fell still, followed by the soft rise and fall of his chest.

Elena’s POVI wanted him. Badly. But I just couldn’t get rid of the fear that tugged deep in my heart. It felt as if I made any attempt to grab onto any idea of happiness, I was going to regret it. Lose it.And I didn't want to lose him. Not Horace. The man was becoming everything for me. Another thing that scared me deeply. How long could I go on avoiding him when his face was always in my mind? His touch, gentle and otherwise, had become the only activity my mind could dwell on. My wolf purred at the slightest hint of his scent.Yet, all I wanted to do was avoid the man. How in the hell was that possible?I took one last look, hoping he’d see through my refusal. Hoping he’d be able to understand that it wasn’t that I didn’t want him, but that I wanted him too much, and I was scared that if I played into it. I may have nothing but tears and sorrow to fall back on.I turned on my heels, walking out of his sight.Though I could feel his eyes bearing deeply into my skin. In fac

Horace’s POVEver since our little play at the hospital, she had been avoiding me. Acting like it never happened.Acting like one of the best moments of my life in a long while never happened, and I was tired of pretending alongside her.I was tired of pretending like her scent wasn’t an intoxication that kept me awake at night and kept me on my toes in the day.I watched her walk around the house, her hips swinging from side to side. In my face. And I could do nothing but deal with the accompanying heat alone. When she spoke, I could barely listen because all I had in my head was the softness of her moving lips. The heaving of her chest, her bosom stacked before me.So when she stared at me, I didn’t miss the heat in her eyes.It was my opportunity, and I wasn’t about to let it go for anyone or anything. Not even for her little pretense. My hand shifted her sundress downwards, running down her thigh. Her bare thigh.“Horace.” She whispered a warning, but her eyes had another instruct

Elena’s POV.Ashanti had struck again, and all of Crimson Moon now had my name on their lips. But what she didn’t know was that by releasing the fake news to the public, she had dug her own grave. The chief of the Armed Forces sat in the living room with Horace and i.He had run to the White House the moment the news first broke, already sure that I had no involvement in it but searching for any evidence that could point to the people who released the news, as he claimed to have been investigating the case for a while.“So how long have you been investigating the case, and what evidence have you managed to gather?” Horace asked, sitting opposite the chief.“Well, we began investigating the case when we first noticed the inconsistencies of certain products coming into the pack. We sent a letter to the council of elders, and an investigation was called upon immediately. However, ever since we began, we unfortunately have found nothing.Well, until this breakthrough in the news.”“And h

Ashanti’s POVA month had passed, and I was still on the run from the police force. My face was plastered all over the city, and getting food from the grocery was so difficult that at times I had no choice but to starve in my room.Thankfully, I was able to find a motel that promised to be discreet if I paid them heavily, which I did. With all the spending, my savings were already going down, and no matter how much I called my aunt for help, she continuously refused to help with my requests.I didn’t know how long I could last with my new life, but I knew I had to do something about it quickly. If Elena thought I would fold my hands and do nothing after the chaos she and Horace had brought into my life, then she was nothing but a joke.I had one more trick up my sleeve, and I would make sure to use it to the fullest.I got a burner phone and was able to reach out to an old contact. Though it took me forever, I was able to persuade her to run the news, as she was still quite angry abou

Michaels POV“Arrggghhhh!!!. I screamed, flipping my table over as I watched the news on the TV.After my interview about Ashanti, I had tried calling Elena repeatedly, but couldn’t get through to her.At first, I thought it was just one of those things, or was Horace was holding her captive, making me even contemplate marching into the White House to help her out.But with the interview playing before me, I realised something.Elena had played me.She and Horace played on my intelligence, lying to me that they were no longer a couple and she would come back once I exposed my relationship with Ashanti.“I couldn’t believe I fell for the lies, how could I have like myself be so stupid?”I screamed again, punching my hand into the wall.“You're going to hurt yourself, Michael. Calm down.”Monica’s voice sounded behind me, and I immediately got reminded of her presence. The other person convinced me of the breakup. I whipped my head towards her, staring, having nothing but a kill in my mi
