Chapter Two - His Reason

The moment she did...

"Why did I just do that?"

Then the handle started to move, someone knocked trying to open the door then a female voice cursed out.

"Seems like the door is locked from the inside", the female voice said.

"Locked? From the inside? Is someone inside?", a male voice said then knocked at the door.

Her heart pounded faster. The voice sounded familiar to her.

"Is this the right room?", the same male voice asked.

"It says so on the key card", the female voice replied.

"Please wait, I'll go check with the manager", the female voice said again.

Her mind went blank.

What am I going to do now?

"What's taking her so long", another voice muttered.

Then footsteps began to walk away.

Maybe they're gone.

She tried peeping from the keyhole but couldn't see anything. The hallway looked too dark. She quickly grabbed her cleaning supplies and headed out.

"Thank God!!!!“ she exclaimed.

The hallway was empty. She rushed out of the room without looking ahead.

Bang.

She crashed into someone's chest. The cleaning supplies slipped from her hands.

"I'm sorry! ", she quickly apologized not daring to look up.

"It's okay", the male voice said.

Again that same voice. It sounded strangely familiar to her but she didn't think much of it. She quickly bent down and wiped his shoes.

They must cost a lot. She thought.

"I'm soo sorry", then rushed into the next room.

He looked back as the figure rushed into the next room. The corners of his lips lifted into a smile.

"Isn't that my little wivey?", he chuckled.

'So clumsy.'

As he turned around, his smile vanished, replaced by his usual stern expression. Looking at him now, he looked so different from a few moments ago. He wore his signature don't-come-close look.

“Mr. Ashford", a female voice called.

He stopped but didn't bother turning around

"Any updates? " he asked still not looking back. His voice calm and emotionless.

"Yes, sir. We're all waiting for you in the meeting room".she replied

“This way, sir", she added bowing her head.

He turned around moving forward while she's at the back. Suddenly he stopped. She halted as well and wondered what the problem was.

"Why are you behind me, Rosa? ". he asked.

She blinked.

"Am I supposed to know where the meeting room is?" he asked again still speaking in the same composed tone.

Realisation dawned on her.

"Ohh.... yes, sir. My apologies. I.....",

"That's enough". he cut her off already annoyed.

She immediately moved forward to lead the way while he followed her in silence.

No one dared to move until he took his seat.

Only then did they sit down again.

Rosa remained standing beside him on his left.

He stayed motionless for a whole fifteen minutes with saying a word.

The silence alone was enough to make every man in the room uncomfortable. Some avoided looking at him, while others shifted nervously in their seats.

Unable to bear the silence any longer, their leader finally spoke.

"Sir. You called for this meeting but..."

"Mr. Mcanthony." Devian cut him off before he could finish speaking. "I speak when I want to speak. Seat.", he said. He sat down immediately with nervousness. At that moment he looked nothing like a leader.

"What was our agreement?", he asked

"To capture Ms. Kourtney and bring her to the hotel but sir. We caught her then she was rescued by a group of armed men. We were caught off guard." Mr. McAnthony replied.

Davian stared at him with a trace of emotion.

"Do you know one thing I hate the most?", he asked no one in particular.

Silence.

"Excuses!!!"

"So, I waisted my time. I am a busy person you don't ever call me for something you are not sure of." he said standing up immediately.

They all stood up too.

"I give you twenty-four hours to deliver a perfect result. " he said before walking out.

He took the elevator to the ground floor where the hotel manager waited for him. Together with his secretary, they moved towards the parking lot. He might be wealthy, be he detested having bodyguards who followed him wherever he went. He was able to protect himself from any threat.

The manager of his hotel was already standing beside his car.

"I apologize for the inconvenience earlier, Mr. Ashford. It won't happen again."he said apologetically already scared of getting fired. His secretary stepped forward to open the car for him.

Devian glanced at his secretary, Rosa,then entered the car without looking at him. As far as he was concerned, the conversation was over.

"It's alright Mr. McAnthony, the situation was handled so there's no need to worry", she gave him a reassuring smile.

"Thank you." he breathed in relief.

Rosa then entered the front passenger door then waved at him. Mr. McAnthony waved back while bowing his head down.
