Lyra strode into my office to the edge of my desk, her eyes locked on me and judging from the triumphant smile on her face, I could tell she had come in with good news.

“Is it done?" I asked, my voice low and urgent.

Lyra's smirk grew, her eyes glinting with pride as she nodded. "It's done."

The words hung in the air and I felt the weight of anticipation lift from my shoulders like a burden had been lifted.

I rose from my chair to my full height as I processed the news.

The long, tense night of waiting was finally over. I felt a rush of relief and exhilaration course through me.

Lyra leaned against the doorframe, her posture relaxed.

“Honestly, it’s kind of embarrassing how easy it was to kidnap Alpha Cameron’s little sister from right underneath his nose.” She snickered.

My gaze narrowed, my thoughts snapping to the potential consequences of this action.

“Did we suffer any losses?" I asked, my concern for the pack's safety overriding my momentary triumph.

Lyra's expression remained smug, her tone reassuring. "None. Your plan went just as it was supposed to. Our little spy did great. And Alpha Cameron remains blissfully unaware of his sister's... absence. Pathetic.” She scoffed, her disgust for our enemies more than evident.

I wanted to feel calm but I clenched and unclenched my fists, tension coursing through my body.

“Secure the borders. The minute he realises she’s gone, he’ll be here trying to break down our walls.”

My mind was racing. I wanted to bask in this victory but I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd just rolled the dice on our pack's safety.

Had this been too much of a risk? I thought about how much danger I was putting my pack members in by pulling such a stunt. It was a gamble but it was necessary one needed to end this war that had lasted way too long.

"Where is she?" I demanded, my gaze snapping back to Lyra.

“In the dungeon," she replied. "I had to practically post guards to keep everyone off her. Everyone’s dying at the chance to take a bite out of her – Diamanté blood and all that comes with it. Everyone wants to get their hands on her, payback for all they’ve done to our pack.”

Lyra's words dripped with venom, her bitterness evident. "But don’t worry, I told them that if anyone gets to have a go at her first, it’s you."

I stood up, a bitter taste filling my mouth as I thought about our ugly history with the Eclipse pack.

The memories of the destruction and chaos they had unleashed upon my pack haunted my mind.

My resolve hardened.

Alpha Cameron and his entire bloodline will regret ever having crossed paths with my own.

"I'll make sure that pathetic Alpha Cameron is at my feet, begging for his sister's life when I'm done with her.” I snarled, my voice low and menacing as I strode past Lyra.

Her smirk didn't go unnoticed, and I could sense her approval of my plan.

My boots echoed through the halls as I made my way to the dungeons, my determination for revenge growing with each step.

I knew I couldn’t let myself celebrate this victory just yet. I knew the significance of this move and how much of a crucial turning point it would bring in our war against the Eclipse pack. I had to capitalize on it.

I needed to exercise patient until everything was done and set in stone.

The two soldiers at the entrance of the dungeons bowed at me and opened the main cell door as I walked past them.

I could hear Lyra trailing behind me.

“I’ll organise a meeting with the elders to decide what our strategy with Alpha Cameron will be. Now that we have his little sister, everything has changed. But until then… if you want to make her scream a little, I’ll be happy to look the other way.” Lyra spoke, tucking some of her dark short hair away.

Trust me, I wanted nothing more than to make the Diamanté family pay. But I knew she wouldn’t survive the night if I acted now.

“I just want to see her for now.” I spoke not hiding the bitterness in my voice. Seeing Alpha Cameron’s little sister locked up. Knowing I had the upper hand and the control would be more than gratifying for now.

Lyra nodded.

She walked past me and led me to one of the cells in the back.

I suddenly felt something stir in me as we got closer.

I placed a hand to my chest not knowing what this searing feeling was.

Not pain, something uncomfortable but not pleasant.

Something demanding to be felt.

I felt my wolf stir within me.

Mine.

The voice came from within.

Something magnetic was pulling me, drawing me in and I realised it was coming from the cell.

“Thane?” I heard Lyra call my name in concern. “Are you okay?”

Her voice was distant, but I wasn’t focused on it at the moment.

I walked past her feeling like I was in a trance.

I stopped in front of the cell and everything clicked into place.

I saw a girl.

She was hugging herself shaking in fright and the unsettling feeling intensified.

But it’s only when she looked up at me, her green eyes piercing mine that I was really knocked off my feet.

Something moved through me and the next thing I knew my legs buckled beneath me, and I found myself crouched on one knee, my head spinning.

The girl’s eyes widened at me shocked and alarmed.

“Thane!“ Lyra yelled my name, her voice piercing through and I felt her hand on my shoulder. “Thane, what’s wrong?”

I looked up at the girl, all my walls and defences crumbling. My essence laid bare.

“Mine.” I growled out loud this time, the sound low and menacing, as my wolf surged to the forefront, refusing to be contained.

Lyra backed away from me startled.

Finally the primal energy left my body and I felt myself crumple onto the floor, nothing but my arms straining to hold me up

My gaze locked onto the girl's, and a single, consuming thought dominated my mind; she was mine.

The realization hit me like a tidal wave, and I swallowed hard, my throat constricting with the force of my emotions.

Crap.

I burst through the double doors of the king’s study. He was seated alone. He didn’t so much as look up from his desk as he seemed more focused on jotting something down.“Thane.” He spoke sounding unenthused. His nonchalance only added to my fury.I marched up to him and swept the ornaments off his desk. They landed on the ground with a thud.I was surprised Miranda wasn’t here to forcefully remove me from the castle premises. He set his pen down and looked up at me. He let out an irritated sigh as he leaned back. “What is it, son?”“Son?” I echoed in disgust. “Son?”“How could you?”“You’ll have to be a little more clear.” He spoke in a bored tone.I flipped over the table.King Reagan didn’t so much as flinch which only infuriated me more.“All this time?” I yelled.King Reagan stared up at me. “I don’t know what you’re talking about Thame but you should be more respectful of your king.”“Screw that!”He rose slowly. “It’s an order, not a request.“I gritted my teeth. “All this tim

“That went as well as I thought it would.” Lyra hissed as we walked out of the castle. It was almost like we had been kicked out with our tails tucked in behind us.As we walked out to the courtyard of the castle, eyes followed us, most of them whispering and I could only imagine the gossip that was starting to spread amongst everyone.Good“Well we knew it wouldn’t work.” I spoke as I stopped in front of our SUV nodding at the guards to open the back door.I turned to Lyra. “Is the plan in motion?”“Our spies are on it.” She spoke with a smile as she jumped into the back seat. I went in after her.We found Dylan looking out the window curiously and as if he was amazed. He turned to us.“So this is what the Castle looks like? I never thought I would live to see the day. Can’t say I’m that impressed.”Lyra rolled her eyes. “Really?”“The Tempest pack’s used to be much nicer. In its glory days anyway.”I couldn’t help but think of Piper’s home. The place she grew up. The place she was a

The Grand doors opened as we walked in.We walked into the throne room and were met with the king’s wives.Evangeline was the first to rise looking serious and angry.“Alpha Thane, you dare to intrude on the royal courts when not only haven’t you boy been summoned but you are also on probation. This is bold, even for you."I could hear Lyra behind me, our footsteps were synchronized as we approached the thrones. We stopped just out of striking distance, seeing Miranda’s eyes darken at the sight of us.I knew if she was here, the king wasn’t too far away. He was never out of her sights for too long.“Apologies, my queen, my ladies.” I spoke. “But there is no room for courtesy in the face of disaster.” I spoke.“We come with urgent news, Queen Evangeline.” Lyra spoke. The air was practically sparking with tension as Queen Evangeline's eyes narrowed. She pursed her lips pursing in displeasure. For a moment, I thought she might order the guards to kick us out, but she seemed to think be

I knocked softly on Landon’s door. It was already open and he sat laying down on his bed staring blankly at nothing.“Hey.” I greeted as I let myself in.Landon turned and saw me. He rolled his eyes and kicked his way into a sitting position.“Oh look, it’s the big and mighty alpha of the Tempest pack. Here to kick me out of my own room?” He asked sarcastically. My face remained straight. I stopped just before his bed.“I know you don’t want to talk to me.”“Did you figure that out all on your own big brother?” He asked grabbing a baseball from near by and fiddling with it.I remember a time when Jaimie would take us out to the field to play. We would always let Landon win because he was the youngest.“Landon, I know you’re mad at me.”Landon shook his head. He then rose to his feet. “No big brother,” he spoke, “mad doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel right now.”“Piper trusted you, you know that? She really believed you cared about her. That from all the crappy people in her pa

“Where’s the prisoner?” I asked in a firm voice as I walked down the steps. There were about a dozen guards around the cells. All some of my top soldiers. It might have seemed extreme. Honestly, I’ve had less security for more threatening prisoners. But I couldn’t take a risk with him.“This way, Alpha, Beta.” One of them spoke as he led Lyra and I down the cold, stone pathway. We passed by the cell Piper had once been kept in and I couldn’t help but feel a pang in my chest.I pictured her in her bed back home still hooked up to all those machines. Mary told me she was doing her best. That they were all doing their best but even I could see the looks of pity all the healers shot me when I spent night after night camped out beside her. Finally we stopped in front of a cell. Iron bars kept contained a man who was cowered in the corner, hugging himself. His eyes flicked up the minute he sensed our presence and started darting between us.It was eerie seeing him. Sure, he looked like any

“Look who’s woken up from the dead.” I spoke.Lyra came limping down into the kitchen, a small smile on her face.I got up instinctively wanting to help her but she held her hand up to stop me.I knew her pride wouldn’t let her.She had never been one to accept help from anyone. Even me.But just by looking at her, I could tell the battle had taken a lot out of her. She looked drained. Her face pale, her hair a mess. A patch was missing from where one of the dark ones had yanked it out.Her bruises were mostly fading but there were still a number over her body. And not to mention the dark circles under her eyes. But to be fair, those had been there even before. She finally got to the table, pulling back a chair and sitting down.I rose my brows at her. “What?” She asked.“Ryan told me you’re supposed to be using crutches.”She rolled her eyes and scoffed.“Yeah well, Ryan puts bandaids on splinter pricks. He’s not exactly my standard of pain tolerance.” She spoke.I let out a light
