Time seemed to have stood still.

I felt like my head would explode and I saw black spots everywhere I looked.

I felt shards of glass poking through my skin and I’m pretty sure I saw smoke. And was that… gas?

The air was heavy with the smell of burnt metal.

At first I couldn’t really make out anything but it was clear that someone was yelling.

I looked forward hoping to see Lyra but there was no one in the front seat.

I blinked hard as if that would bring back my senses.

And then I felt something drop down to the ground.

Even upside down with blood rushing to my head and the only think holding me being my seat belt, I could make it out.

Blood. My blood.

Oh no.

As if I had turned the volume up in the vehicle, suddenly everything became clear.

Especially the screams.

I looked around the car realising why I was alone.

Everyone was too busy out there fighting.

The dark ones were probably tearing them apart.

With how many they had been. Lyra and the three soldiers didn’t stand a chance.

“Where is she?” I demanded as I stepped into the house.Everything in me hurt. There were bruises and cuts all over my body. Albeit healing but still torturous.I had suffered more kicks and bites than I could count and I’m pretty sure my kill count just tonight went above any minor battle I had ever been involved in.Yet that’s not the pain I was concentrating on right now.“Alpha Thane, we need you in our strategy meeting as soon as possible. We need to go through our losses and damages and not to mention, what Piper Diamante did… it - it changes everything. Think of all the possibilities now. How we could use that power and -“I spun around to face the female soldier who was trying to speak to me.My eyes darkened. She immediately cowered backwards sensing the anger and authority radiating off of me.“I will be in the meeting after I make sure my Luna is okay.” I huffed.I could feel the palpable silence and awkwardness radiate around the room.No one dared to say another word or

But it wasn’t Landon. Not exactly. This version was rabid, crazed, uncontrollable.I could see it by the way he instantly started ripping through the dark ones.It was bizzare to watch. I had seen Thane and his soldiers fight. Heck, I had seen my own sibling and pack army fight.A skilled fighter was swift but efficient with their moves. What Landon was doing right now was the opposite of that. It was like he wasn’t in control of his body.He was swiping his claws and using his teeth all to draw blood and cause harm. But it’s like he didn’t even realise what he was doing. He was out of control. It was the Luna madness.Landon’s appearance achieved the goal of distracting the dark ones long enough to take their attention away from us.I could tell that they had been caught off guard by Landon’s unbridled ferocity. But unluckily for him and all of us, their shock wore off quickly. The dark ones regained their senses and it’s like they realised it was just one rabid wolf against them.Th

Everyone was mad at this point. Landon was mad at me, Lyra was mad at me and all the other soldiers could tell their alpha was mad and it didn’t take long for them to realise I was the reason so here we were.Thane hadn’t given me a second glance as he had immediately shifted and gone to join the fighting. But it was clear that he had given Lyra strict instructions to keep an eye on me which she obviously wasn’t happy about. But here we were, me in the back of an SUV with two serious looking soldiers flanking me.And that’s when the chaos started. It was dark, there was thunder and lightning plaguing the sky as the storm continued. If you didn’t listen carefully, the rain and wind almost distracted from the chaos ensuing outside. But nothing could completely eradicate the deadly occurrences outside. One peak out the window and I could see them. Shadows looming around the forest, screams of terror accompanying them.I heard a loud growl and almost jumped out of my skin as something hit

“Everyone expand our defences as much as we can, I want soldiers on every ends of the woods. We fight fiercely and defend the innocent - the women and children especially. Go for the kill and hunt in packs. The dark ones do not show mercy and neither should we.” I ordered as I marched down the stairs.Rian ran after me. “Alpha.” He bowed before rising promptly again. “I’m getting word thatLandon has been spotted approaching the eastern woods.”I clenched my fist and turned to look at Lyra. She had a hard look on her face as she asked the one question I was too hesitant to utter.“Has he hurt anyone?”“No one has been reported injured, Beta, but -““His approaching the town… and the dark ones.” I finished for Rian.He looked grim as he nodded at me, probably afraid to say anything else.Lyra turned to me, frowning slightly. “You need to give an order.” She spoke trying to sound firm even though it sounded like she was choking on her own words.I thought about my little brother roaming

“Thane!” Lyra gripped my arm stopping me from throwing my hand back to hit the punching bag in front of me.I stopped, feeling every muscle in me twitch and become tense.Lyra stood back, folding her arms across her chest as she studied me in concern.“You haven’t slept a wink.” She commented. There was a storm outside and I could hear the thunder and water beating down against the windows.“No time to sleep when my pack is in danger.” I grumbled as I took down the heavy bag replacing it with a larger one.Lyra sighed as she walked over to my desk where a bunch of unfinished plans were laid all around.Useless plans that weren’t going to work anyway. Because there was no way to defeat creatures that weren’t only faster and stronger than you but who fed on life itself.Lyra scoffed.I turned to look at her.She was also in her training gear, her hair braided off into two cornrows.“What are you doing here?” I asked in realisation. It was three am. Neither of us should have been awake.
