Mag-log inHi, it’s me again. 🙃 Thank you for giving my book a chance. ✨ It’d mean a lot to me if you could support this story with gems. 🥺
The girl’s face is a massive wreck. Her left eye is swollen shut, the right side of her face covered in purpling bruises, her lip is split and caked in dry blood.Yet, she somehow manages to still look beautiful. This time, it’s my mouth that hangs open in surprise.“You the babe?” She grins widely and leans forward to take a good look at me.The effort causes the stitches on her lips to stretch and blood seeps out of it.I jolt back in surprise.“Oooopsie.” She touches a hand to her bleeding lips and lets out a manic laugh. The rest of her stitches come undone and her laughter echoes in the cafeteria, her lips bleeding freely now.Raymond jumps up and crushes her in a hug.“Owwwwww, careful boy or you’d reset my arm.” The girl winces.Raymond lifts her and spins her around and begins to laugh. He sounds so relieved, like he's finally at peace. I realize it's the first time I'm hearing him laugh, and it does something to me. The girl joins in too and their laughter echoes in the caf
The next day, I leave home early and hurry to school.I’m the first one in, so I take a seat at the back of the classroom.Everything Raymond said to me is still ringing in my head. I’m trying to piece it all together. Eleven years ago was when I lost my mother, when that incident with the Alphas occurred. I remember five Alphas, could one of them have been Raymond’s brother? If yes, does that mean Raymond’s father is no alpha, and possibly not even a werewolf?“You look like you gotta take a shit.” A voice startles me.I look up to meet piercing blue eyes staring right at me.“What’s up PJ?” I mutter low enough so no one else can hear.“Don’t you even dare.” Raymond looks around quickly.I snicker and raise my hands in surrender. “Relax, what are you? A superstar? People wouldn’t be paying attention to you all day.”I instantly regret saying it as my eyes roam the class. People are, indeed, watching his every move. I see several girls giggle when Raymond follows my gaze. He winks and
“YOU!” Raymond’s beautiful face morphs into an irritated look.I hurriedly grab him for a handshake. “I’m Yasmine, but everyone calls me Yas. It’s so nice to meet you PJ.” I’m smiling sweetly, but my eyes are giving him a warning glare.I don’t want Catherine to find out what happened at school today.Alex snickers at the display, and I flinch in surprise.Yikes!I’d almost forgotten about him. I wonder if he’s mad enough to rat me out.An awkward silence ensues as Catherine and Evelyn look between us, not quite understanding what’s going on, but sensing something is off.“Nice to meet you Yas.” Raymond grits his teeth and crushes my hand in a painful handshake.I bite my lip to keep from yelping and continue smiling so the adults won’t suspect a thing.I’d forgotten werewolves have strong grips. Touché.“I’ve got to take this call, nice to meet you guys once again.” Alex grabs the keys to Catherine’s Mercedes and walks out the door.“How ‘bout I show Yas around the hood? Get to know h
“Yasmine you have five minutes to prepare and get downstairs.” My adoptive mother, Catherine bangs on my door.I try to ignore her but she keeps banging on the door.“Yes Catherine” I shout back an answer reluctantly.“As much as it hurts me to say this, you call me ‘mom’ or ‘mother’ when the neighbor returns. And you must shut up and sit still” Catherine warns.I roll my eyes and pick up myself from the floor.I’m finally over whatever happened with Alex earlier.I quick shower, lock my room door and change into a comfy cashmere sweater and a short jean skirt. My phone pings with a message from Catherine, informing me that the neighbor is here to welcome us and that my presence is required. It’s been three days since we moved into this house, and I have no idea who my neighbors are. I untangle my curly hair as best as I can and then dash out of my bedroom. As I descend the stairs, I silently pray that it’s a couple with kids my age. Maybe I’ll finally get to make friends.“Hey there!
The rest of the school day passes without incident, and I’m glad when it’s over. It’s never easy being the new girl.Classroom doors swing open and students pour into the hallways in torrents. Loud chatter and laughter fill the air as friends try to catch up with one another.I allow myself to be carried by the crowd heading for the exit. As I move, I strain my neck to look around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Raymond—or even a whiff of his repulsive scent. Unfortunately, I have no such luck.I arrive at the parking lot where Alex is already waiting. “Heard about your little display today,” he says in greeting.“Don’t know what you’re talking about.” I mumble, refusing to meet his eyes.He leads the way to a shiny white Mercedes waiting for us. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell her,” he smiles and winks at me. I shiver involuntarily. My adoptive mother is a nasty, evil woman, worse than the Scarlet Witch. If she were to hear about what happened at school today, she’d find a way to make
“Bye, Dad,” I wave to the retreating back of the black Escalade. The moment he’s out of sight, I turn to run, but Alex is faster. He grabs my arm forcefully and pulls me close, smiling sweetly.“Honey, you didn’t think you could outrun me, did you?” he gasps in mock surprise as he begins to walk, dragging me along.I clench my fists and breathe through my mouth, fighting my anger and resisting the urge to punch his stupid face. His other hand casually brushes a stray curl of hair behind my ear, and I recoil in disgust. The sound of his laughter rings across the car lot, making my heart skip a beat as some students turn to look at us.“Oh, honey!” Alex waves his hand.“Don’t go looking like that, or people will think I’m hurting you.” He increases the pressure on my arm as his nails dig painfully into my skin.“Come on, honey, look alive,” he continues, while smiling broadly.I release a somewhat convincing laugh and continue walking with him as I notice the students still watching us.
