The music resumed, loud and mesmerizing, its melody travelling through every corner of the Grand Hall, coaxing feet back into motion. Yet I did not move.

I stood rigid, legs glued to the spot, as though if I made a single step the world would shatter. Around me, wolves swayed and spun, lanterns reflected on their polished coats, their laughter floating across the room. And there I was in their midst, standing still and frozen, my heart hammering against my chest.

It was then that it hit me with a force I could not have imagined. The pull which had been subtle at first now roared in every fibre of my being. My chest tightened, my throat went desert-dry, and beneath the quiet chaos, Swift stirred. My wolf.

Swift is awake.

The thought, or rather the feeling, bellowed through me. My wolf was screaming, howling from the depths of me in ways I had never heard her do before.

It was thunderous, arresting, and the sound vibrated through my bones even if no one else could hear it. I tried to silence it, to tell it this was not the place, that this was not the time, but it would not be quiet. Swift would not be silenced.

Right there, the truth dawned. It hit me square in the face.

This… this is it.

The stories elders whispered when I was a child, tales of bondings, of mates finding each other under the light of the Moon Goddess. I had listened, wide-eyed and naïve, never imagining the day would come for me.

Tales of the all-consuming feeling of the mate bond. They say that when a mate is near, the atmosphere changes, the blood sings and dances, the wolf stirs. They call it unmistakable, a truth that echoes from your bones to the apex of your soul. It rouses the wolf alive in a way it has never been before, fighting to be released into the arms of its mate.

I had thought it was just stories. Myths. Fantasy. Entertainment for a child too small to truly understand the world.

Yet here I was, my wolf screaming at the top of her voice, howling with all her strength, my body alight with a force I could neither deny nor control.

I glanced up, trying to refocus, to anchor myself in reality, but the Grand Hall had narrowed into a tunnel of awareness that led only to them.

The twins.

The Alphas.

My mates.

Lucien.

I could feel him even before I saw him clearly, a pull so fierce it twisted through me. A warmth, not kind, not comforting, but magnetic and inescapable.

And Kaelan, just as potent, his energy sharper, more intense, yet somehow tethered to Lucien’s in ways I could not begin to decipher.

Suddenly, their eyes found me amidst the swarm of wolves.

They found me.

Lucien’s gaze, deliberate, measuring, and impossibly knowing, caught mine.

I froze.

He knows, I thought, my stomach knotting tight enough to squeeze the air from my lungs.

I tore my gaze away so fast that one would think I had been scorched by fire.

My mind worked a double shift, telling myself I could escape, that I could walk away and hide from what I had just realized. The crowd kept moving around me, oblivious, but I felt every pair of eyes on me, scrutinizing. I was hyper-aware of every step, every motion, each breath I took.

My left foot retracted, a hesitant step backward, then two, attempting to retreat toward one of the exits. But a hand found mine.

“Where are you going?” Rowan asked, concern coating his usually jovial tone.

I muttered something, words swallowed by my panic, and yanked my hands from his grip.

“I… just… need some air,” I mumbled. My voice was hoarse and shaky, barely carrying across the space between him and me.

Rowan frowned, but before he could try to convince me otherwise, I slipped past him, moving toward the nearest exit.

My legs were metal, weighted with the knowledge of what had just happened, and every instinct screamed to run, to vanish, to hide myself in a hole where no one would find me.

Swift circled within me, calling out fiercely.

'Protect yourself. Protect your bond.'

I could feel the tremor in my limbs, the strange tingle running up my arms, and the pull. The pull was relentless in its bid.

The twins’ presence followed me as I weaved through the crowd of wolves. Unspoken but loud. The subtle energy shift from the Alphas radiated through the room, and I could sense the crowd noticing somehow, though most likely they only felt the faintest ripple. However, to me, it was a spotlight, an exposure in every nerve ending.

Pilar appeared beside me, her hands pressing firmly down on my shoulders.

“Hey! Stop right there. What's wrong?” she said, worry etched in her voice. She did not know, she could not know, that this was not an ordinary fear, that the cause of my visceral panic was not the crowd, not the music, not even the dance itself.

I wanted to explain, to tell her to move away, but the words lodged themselves in my throat.

Swift pressed closer, muttering within me.

'Do not retreat. This is yours. Claim it.'

Then Lucien was there, in the periphery of my view, and the weight of the room pressed in. Kaelan too, subtle in his presence but clear-cut, a sharpened edge behind every motion. The crowd, oblivious to the severity of the situation, still sensed something shifting. Wolves could sense what they could not see, and I felt it, the quiet command that radiated from their alpha-blooded presence.

Pilar’s hands tightened on my arms.

“Ophelia,” she urged. “Please, just come back.”

I shook my head, mumbling, “I… I need… I need to be alone.”

My words were small, insufficient, drowned beneath the weight of instinct and ancient pull. I stepped toward the exit, the hall a blur, every shadow elongated and alive.

Swift pressed against my chest, begging me to acknowledge, to accept, to fear nothing.

The bond’s pull intensified as I neared the door, just when the inevitable happened.

Lucien stepped into my path.

The crowd was beginning to notice the shift now, an almost imperceptible ripple that made heads lean in, ears twitch, eyes widen.

Conversations faltered around us. A few wolves slowed their dancing, their heads turning instinctively toward their Alphas.

His expression was calm, measured, yet carried an implicit command that made every muscle in my body tense.

Kaelan appeared beside him, slightly taller in frame, sharper in expression, freckles dusted across his face catching the moonlight in a way that made the moment feel surreal.

There was something unsettling about the way he looked at me. Not confusion. Not curiosity. Recognition.

Swift stirred violently at the same moment, pressing against my ribs as though she wanted to break free and close the distance between us.

I wanted to retreat, to leave, to vanish, but Swift had other ideas.

'Do not retreat. This is yours. Claim it.'

My thoughts swirled as I struggled to reconcile instinct with will.

Fear screamed at me to go for the door, yet courage, that small ember I had been nurturing over the years, flared up within me. Every memory of hiding, settling into the shadows, every cautious step I had taken in Silver Fang came rushing back.

Yes, I am Omega.

But I am not small.

Not weak.

Not invisible.

I breathed in slowly, letting the air fill my lungs. I stood taller, shoulders squared despite the tension, my heart still hammering like a caged drum.

I could not deny what had happened, could not undo the bond, could not silence Swift’s cries.

In that moment, as the Alphas’ presence pressed around me like a living force, Swift howled.

It was quiet at first, a ripple under the skin, a voice that only I could feel stretching out into the night. Then louder, a song of recognition, of power, of connection. It wrapped around me, tethered to the Alphas, resonating in a way that made my chest pound with a strange, terrifying clarity.

Despite the fear I felt, despite the trembling in my knees, my heart thrumming like a caged drum, Swift, the wolf within me, howled in pure excitement, eager to accept the fate laid upon us by the Moon Goddess herself.

I turned, and there Elara stood at the edge of the balcony, her arms crossed, her grey eyes fixed on me. She had not moved closer. She did not need to. The question hung in the air between us, like she had all the time in the world.Pilar recovered first. "We were just—""Talking about my brother." Elara's voice was unnervingly calm. "I heard."She walked to the railing and stood beside us, looking down at the now almost empty training yards. Most of the warriors had gone, and the dust had begun to settle. The afternoon light was fading, casting long shadows across the stone.Pilar shot me a look. I ignored her.Elara did not speak for a while. She simply stood there, her raven hair moving in the breeze, her hands loose at her sides. She stood like she had been carved into the stone. Her stillness was majestic and unsettling at the same time; it made you aware of your own restlessness.I waited, calculating what would be her next action."My brother does not send me," she said finally

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   Are You Talking About My Brother?

The afternoon sun warmed the wide stone balcony overlooking the training fields.Pilar and I sat at a small iron table the servants had carried out earlier. A large tray sat between us, carrying fresh bread still warm from the kitchens, soft cheese, olives in oil, sliced apples and pears, dried figs, and a pitcher of watered wine. The air carried the steady sounds from below: steel clashing against steel, instructors shouting commands, and the rhythmic thud of boots on packed earth.Pilar leaned forward on the railing, chewing a piece of bread as she watched the warriors train. "Look at that one," she said, pointing with her chin. "The tall one with the scar running down his left arm. He handles the sword so well. Strong stance, good balance. I bet he came from the border patrols."I smiled and tore off a piece of bread. "You sound like you're back on duty.""A little." Pilar grinned. "I spent four years as a guard. Old habits stay with you. See how he shifts his weight before each st

***THIRD POV***Kaelan stood in the doorway, shoulders squared, breathing hard from the semi-run here.He had not knocked, he had simply pushed and the door had given way.Maybe, he should not have done that as the bare body of a slender woman nestled under his brother came into view. She yelped and scrambled for the bedding, pulling it over herself.Lucian moved quickly, one hand reaching toward the dagger on the side table before he recognized his brother and let the motion die. "You could have knocked," he said."I could have," Kaelan agreed, stepping into the room. "I did not."The sound of ruffling sheets, drew Kaelan's attention to today's bedwarmer. One of his brother's many whores. Her eyes were wide with shock, her hair tangled across her shoulders."Get out."She did not need to be told twice, she snatched her robe from the floor, clutched it to her chest and hurried past him, bare feet cluttering on the stone. The door swung partially closed behind her, the latch broken.Whe

“You need to get up.”Gertha’s voice cut through the dark. The fire was dead, the room cold, and she was already pulling a lilac dress from the wardrobe, her movements brisk and efficient.“The Queen approved a visitor for you,” she said, not looking at me. “Someone from Ashen Ridge. You have one hour to get ready.”I sat up, my head thick from sleep, my limbs heavy from days of tension. “Who?”Gertha laid the dress on the bed and turned to face me. “You will see soon enough. Wash your face, fix your hair and do not keep them waiting.”She left before I could ask any more questions. I stared at the lilac fabric, my mind stumbling over possibilities. My mother would not leave the cottage – she had not left Ashen Ridge in years.Pilar would. Only Pilar would find a way to convince the Queen to let her visit.I pushed myself out of bed and washed quickly, the water cold against my skin. The dress fit well enough, though the sleeves were longer than what I was used to, and the fabric was s

Lucian pushed off the wall and stepped fully into the corridor, his posture still relaxed, almost casual.Riven had already disappeared down the hall. The firelight caught the sharp edges of his face as he looked at me, and there was something in the way he watched me, something soft.“You handled yourself quite well in there,” he said. His voice was soothing, making Swift purr somewhere deep in my chest.“You think so?” I asked, shocked.“I think it was pretty clear, wasn’t it? Even a blind man would have seen it.”I blinked, caught off guard by the near-kindness. “Thank you.”“You shouldn’t be out here,” he said, “not right after the hall emptied. It invites talk.”My hands folded in front of the pale blue dress, the fabric suddenly feeling stiff again. “I was heading back to my room when I overheard you talking, and I decided to come say thank you.”A hint of confusion crossed his face. “For what?”“Really?” I laughed lightly, the sound surprising even me. “For helping me out with t

The hall held its breath after Lucian’s interruption, but Darkholme recovered quickly and nodded to a new speaker. The woman returned to her seat and an older nobleman rose from the northern benches, his reputation for knowing ancient law well established.Lord Veylan sized me up before speaking.“Ophelia Tyme,” he began, his voice formal, “consider this scenario. A lord dies without a clear heir. Two distant cousins both claim the title, each producing ancient documents that support their case. One has the backing of the northern packs, who are powerful but easily offended. The other has served the crown loyally for decades but lacks strong allies. How would you advise the King to proceed without alienating either faction?”The question was not in the book. I had read about succession, about the weight of documents and the importance of loyalty, but this was layered with politics, perception, and the delicate balance of power. My mind raced through various possibilities: a public hear

The King's private study was not a room that invited comfort. It was large enough to feel important and sparse enough to feel strict, a desk of dark mahogany at its centre, shelves of maps and bound documents lining the walls, a single fireplace that gave heat without warmth.
