Draven's POV

I heard the laughter before I saw them.

Late afternoon. East garden path. The kind of open stretch that caught the last of the light. I had been heading toward the training grounds when the sound cut across the yard, Maya's bright, short laugh, then Tristan's lower one, and under it a softer sound that belonged to her.

I stopped at the edge of the colonnade and did not step into view.

They were near the low wall. Maya sat on the grass with a notebook open. Tristan was on one knee b

Thelma's POVMaya waited until the house was quiet.Afternoon lessons were done. The notebooks stacked. The light in the east sitting room had gone soft and gold. I was putting the colored pencils back in their tin when she stopped in front of me, both hands behind her back, face serious in the way it got when something mattered too much for smiling."I made you something," she said.I set the tin down. "You did?"She nodded and brought her hands around. In her palm sat a bracelet, uneven, careful, made of knotted string and three small wooden beads she must have found or asked for. The knots were tight. A little crooked in places. Made by small fingers that had tried very hard."It's not pretty like store ones," she said. "But it's strong. I checked."My throat went tight."Maya…""Hold out your hand."I did. She tied it around my wrist with focused concentration, tongue caught between her teeth, pulling the final knot firm. The string was rough against my skin. Warm from her hands.

Maya sat on the grass with a notebook open. Tristan was on one knee beside her, saying something with his hands moving, the way he did when he was performing more than explaining. Thelma stood a little apart, arms loosely folded, watching them with an expression I had not seen on her face before. Not careful. Not braced. Just present.Tristan said something else. Maya laughed again. Thelma shook her head, but she was smiling, small, reluctant, real. The kind of smile that changed the shape of her whole face.Max went still under my skin. Not the usual restless pu

Liana's POVRumors had bought me time.Nothing more. The human girl was still in the east wing. Still sitting with Maya every morning. Still pulling Draven's attention in ways he refused to admit. The quiet rejection of the bond I had found in the old records needed more than hope. It needed pressure. Outside pressure.I waited until the medical wing was empty and the night shift had settled. Then I locked the door and took the small sealed packet from the bottom drawer of my private cabinet. No pack seal. No name. Just thick paper and a short message written in a hand that could not be traced back to me.I had rewritten it three times. The first version was too direct. The second too emotional. The third said only what was required.A human girl is inside Bloodmoon. She has the Alpha's attention. She is temporary staff, unprotected by formal claim. Her presence weakens focus and divides the house. Removal would be considered a favor. Payment and further details available upon confirm

Thelma's POVHe left like something had burned him.One second his hand was under mine on the book. Warm. Solid. The next he was taking the book, setting it straight, and the air in the study changed. I said thank you. He didn't answer. By the time I reached the door he was already gone, footsteps hard down the corridor, heading away from the east wing like he needed the distance more than he needed air.I stood in the hallway with my fingers still tingling and tried to make sense of it.We had been talking. Actually talking. Not arguing. Not trading clipped orders and careful answers. For a few minutes it had felt almost normal. Then the accidental touch, and everything shut down.Did I do something wrong? The question followed me back to the east wing. It sat in my chest while I helped Maya finish her reading. It stayed there through dinner, through the quiet hour before bed, through the moment I closed her door and finally sat alone at the small desk with the lamp on.My hand still

Draven's POVThe touch lasted less than a second. It was enough. Her fingers brushed mine on the book spine, warm, soft, human, and the bond tore through me like a live wire. Max surged so hard my vision narrowed at the edges. The scent of her flooded everything. Clean. Sweet. Under it the faint trace of ink and paper and the quiet fear she still carried even when she tried to hide it.Mine.The word wasn't a thought. It was a demand. Raw. Absolute. The kind that didn't care about temporary contracts or human fragility or the careful distance I had forced for weeks.I took the book. Set it straight. Sat back down like nothing had happened. She left. The door closed behind her and the study felt too small. Too full of the lingering trace of her skin on mine. My hand flexed against the desk. Once. Twice. The knuckles ached with the need to follow, to close the space she had just put between us, to put my mouth on the pulse I could still hear in my memory.Max was past listening.I stood

Thelma's POVI almost walked past the study. The door was half open. Late afternoon light cut across the floor in a long strip. Draven sat at the desk with a stack of papers, pen moving in short, precise lines. He didn't look up when my shadow crossed the threshold.I could have kept going. It would have been easier.Instead I stopped and knocked once on the frame. He glanced up. Waited."I wanted to thank you," I said. The words came out thinner than I meant. I cleared my throat and tried again. "For letting me stay. After everything. The… accusation. The village. All of it. You didn't have to keep me on."Silence sat between us for a second. Then he nodded. Once. Short. That was all.I should have left. The nod was dismissal enough. But my feet didn't move. The quiet in the room felt different from the usual kind, less sharp, less ready to cut. Just quiet."Maya's doing better," I said. "With the reading. She's starting to finish pages on her own.""I know."Of course he knew. He se
