Stella's POV I leaned over the wall, hoping that would stop the room from spinning and help me with nausea. My heart was pounding in my chest, threatening to break, as I slowly looked around. For the last hour, I prayed it would be a mistake, that it was not Adriana. But now, all my hope was dead, just like my little sister. The hotel room was dark, filthy and stinky. The walls were once painted blue but now looked like a zombie's skin. I kept wondering how my poor baby ended up in here. Her body was sprawled across the bed, and her eyes, once filled with joy, were now glossy and dull. She wore the same hoodie and jeans she had the previous morning when I saw her for the last time. " She overdosed," I heard a policeman's voice coming from a distance. For them, it was another crime scene. For me, it was hell's threshold. " Can you confirm it is your sister?" The same voice rang closer, and I slowly raised my head. " Overdosed?" I asked in a weak voice. " It looks like she had way too good fun," The man in front of me looked at the papers in his hand. " She was not taking any drugs," I replied, shaking my head. " The closest family usually finds out the last," the policeman replied in the same indifferent tone. " I am her only family. I have raised Adriana since our parents died." My voice slowly raised. This man had already judged my sister without knowing sh*t about her. Dead girl in a filthy room, probably the troublemaker, end of story. " I am really sorry for your loss," he spoke, but I heard no sincere feelings in his tone. " Kids sometimes make bad choices." I balled my fists. " Drunk tattoo can be a bad choice. Dyeing your hair green can be a bad choice," I said through my gritted teeth," but this is something way more than a bad choice. I doubt it was even her choice." The man in front of me rolled his eyes. " I get your point, but I have seen it more times before than you can imagine. I believe that you tried to do your best as an older sister, but sometimes it is not enough. Let me guess, you work two jobs to pay the bills?" " What does it have to do with that?" I asked slowly. He was right. I worked two jobs to make sure my sister had everything she needed. " And while you were working your a*s off, your sister made a ' bad choice'." My eyes filled with tears. He was wrong, so wrong. Adriana would never do anything like that. She was a top-class student who spent most of her free time digging into books she loved to read. She had a small circle of friends, I knew each of them. " You know nothing about Adriana." The policeman shrugged his arms. " I know what I see. There are no signs of violence, so it does not look like she was forced to do it. But we found a cup with ecstasy tabs dissolved in cheap wine. Maybe it is you who did not know your sister after all." I offered him a kill stare, but he only smirked. I was ready to tell him what I thought about this heartless comment, but then the morgue workers came in to take Adriana's body. I rushed to her and grabbed her hand, now cold as ice. " I am so sorry, baby," I whispered, completely heartbroken. " I am so sorry." " We need to take the body." ' The body' was all they saw, while for me, it was the whole world. I slid to the floor, sobbing quietly, as they took my sister out. My limbs went numb. I knew I had to stay strong, but I was scared that any moment now, I would shatter like a glass dropped to the ground. The policeman left the room with the rest of the team, but I barely noticed that. At this point, nothing mattered. I have lost my only family, and I broke the word I fave my mother before she died. That I would take care of Adriana and protect her at all costs. I failed them both. After a while, I managed to move. I dragged myself from the floor. I had to go back to the cafe where I worked. Mary, my boss, would be worried. Besides, I had to take a few days off to arrange the funeral. " Stella, is everything okay?" Mary rushed to my side as soon as I entered the cafe. I looked into her warm brown eyes, and the dark reality hit me with full force. My eyes filled with tears, but I could not find the strength to say anything. Mary wrapped her arm around me and led me to the back of the cafe. " Sit, girl and tell me what happened? You ran out of here like a bolt. Is it about Adriana? Is she okay?" I raised my head upon hearing my sister's name. Tears rolled down my cheeks. Mary's eyes widened. " What is going on? Speak child." " Adriana is dead," I managed to whisper, and Mary stumbled back. " What do you mean by that? How could she die?" I hung my head. How could I tell her? Mary was like a mother to both of us. She was the one to help us after my parents were gone. Thanks to her, I have a job that allows me to pay the bills. " Stella, say something." Mary touched my arm, and this gesture released all the emotions I had held inside until now. My sobs grew louder until they turned into a deafening scream. I kept screaming and crying until I had no more tears and lay curled on the floor. Mary kneeled next to me, caressing my hair. " Oh my dear God," she mumbled repeatedly. I closed my eyes. God had nothing to do with that.Hades's POV Everything went quiet when Stella entered the dining room. She looked gorgeous in the gown I gave her. Marissa had an excellent taste. I made a mental note to thank her later. Stella gracefully came closer, and I noticed Javier had stopped breathing momentarily, admiring her. I did not like it one bit. " There she is," I spoke, standing up. Stella shyly looked around, and I rushed to her side. " Come on, dear, meet my friends," I said, ensuring her attention was on me. I leaned forward as if I tried to kiss her, but instead, I whispered. " Showtime." Stella nodded, and I took her hand. " Javier, meet my love, Stella," I introduced her, ensuring to put an accent on the word 'my'. He was known for constantly hitting at women, usually way above his league. I pulled Stella closer to me, hoping he would get a hint. Then I glanced at the woman sitting next to him. " And this is his sister, Vivian," I added coldly. Stella seemed to recognise my tone, and she imme
Stella's POV I looked around the room Liam had assigned to me. It was spacious and bright. In the middle was the enormous bed with beautiful silk sheets. I touched the soft fabric. The air was filled with the delicate scent of flowers. I noticed a small bouquet standing on the bedside drawer. This room was nothing I expected from a place like this. But I wouldn’t be myself if I hadn't done one thing. I opened the wardrobe and looked inside. There were no skeletons, but I had to check. To be honest, it was completely empty, so I placed my own bag inside. Since 'unpacking' took me ten seconds, I had more time to familiarise myself with the place. Soon, I discovered a bathroom with a giant bathtub in the middle. Soft towels were neatly folded on the table next to it. Drawers were filled with every accessory a woman could ask for. There were various shampoos, conditioners, creams, and other things I could barely recognise. I sat on the bathtub's edge, wondering if Liam had
Hades's POVI watched Stella's eyes widen in... shock, fear, I could not tell. She seemed to be frozen, unable to speak. " Hello, " I said, hoping my voice would sound calm. It looked like this single word brought her back to reality. " You are the boss?" She asked, but the question came out as a squeak. People usually reacted like this, but in different circumstances. I was not a threat to her. " I am." My reply was simple. Stella shook her head. " You did not tell me." This time, it sounded like an accusation. I raised my brow, surprised by how quickly she composed herself. I was genuinely impressed. " You never asked," I replied with a slight smirk, and she gasped. " I usually do not ask people if they were involved in the criminal industry."" Fair enough," I chuckled. " Do you want to sit?" I asked, pointing to the chair in front of my desk. Stella offered me a suspicious look, so I moved to my seat, leading by example. She slowly followed my lead. " I am sure you have some
Stella's POV My body felt numb. Liam offered to take me home, but I politely declined, too scared that her would notice how freaked out I was. He did not pressure me; he just called the cab and waited until I was gone. When I reached my home, my body gave up completely. I sat on the floor, leaning against the wall for support. He was a member of the mafia! My head was spinning whenever those words appeared in my mind. Of course, it could be some kind of sick joke, but my guts were telling me it was a freaking truth. Now, it all made sense. His terrifying, mysterious aura. How the others stayed away from him, too scared to bother him. But, mafia? I could not even believe it was a real thing. Maybe somewhere else, but here? It seemed surreal. I have spent another fifteen minutes staring at the wall. What have I done? I could easily answer that question. I got myself bound to a member of the mafia. If that wasn't scary enough, I offered to do anything in exchange for his h
Stella's POV " What are you willing to do to find out?" He asked me, and I wondered for a split second only. The image of Adriana's dead body flashed before my eyes. " Everything," I replied without hesitation. His brow rose as he leaned back on his seat, exposing the tattoos on his neck. " That is a loaded answer. Are you sure about that?" " My sister died in a filthy room, while people watched. No one helped her. They left her there like old garbage," I looked at him, lowering my voice. We were in a public place, I did not want to cause the drama. " How do you know all of that?" The man before me asked, as his eyes darkened. I noticed how he balled his fists. Good. "Someone recorded everything. Like it was some entertainment. They even uploaded it to the internet. My friend found it." His eyes were not leaving my face. The aura I always felt around him intensified. I almost expected to see some dark shadows wrapping around him. This man looked like a demon tra
Hades's POV " Jeremy, you really disappointed me," I said, cleaning my hands from the blood staining them. Man, before me groaned. His face was covered in bruises, and he had a couple of ugly cuts; that could be my ring. A couple of drops of his blood landed on my shirt, ruining it. I really liked that shirt. " You stole from one of my men. And that is like stealing from me." My tone was calm, but my eyes said more than thousands of words. Jeremy shifted on his chair, and my men immediately stepped forward, but I stopped them with my hand. " I only took some stuff," he barely whispered, and I raised my brow. " Oh, you only took some. That explains everything. Why haven't I thought about that?" My words were followed by another punch. " I thought our relationship was built on trust, Jeremy. And rules. We have rules here, Jer, and you should remember them." Another punch. My men moved closer, this time to stop me. I shot them a glance, and they froze. This was between Jeremy
