Stella's POV

For another couple of days, I lived in the dream, but this dream was more like a nightmare.

Mary was next to me, helping me survive one day at a time. She took charge of arranging the funeral since I could not handle it.

The ceremony was simple. Adriana's friends came together, bringing the pink lilies, her favourite flowers.

After the funeral, I tried to talk to them, asking questions about possible changes in Adriana's behaviour, but they all denied noticing anything. I tried to believe them, but I felt they omitted something more. I could see it in their eyes, but maybe that was just my imagination. Maybe they were just as devastated as I was, and I pressed them too much.

Mary tried to convince me to stay home for a little longer, but I could not stand to be alone. Every inch of it reminded me of Adriana. I had to escape from there. I even considered selling the house and moving away, but this had to wait.

" Are you sure you want to be here?" Mary asked as I put on my apron.

" There is no other place I want to be right now," I replied, offering her a small, fake smile.

" I do not want you to deal with some crappy customers."

" It is quiet here today. Only regulars," I tied my apron, grabbed my notebook and rushed to the tables.

I did not lie. The cafe was filled with two regulars, to be exact.

" There is your coffee, Roger," I said, placing a cup before the grumpiest man I have ever seen. I could swear he was only coming here to complain, but I have learnt to deal with his humour.

" Is it hot?" Roger asked without looking at me.

" Exactly how you like it," Mary replied, coming closer. She knew Roger as well as I did and knew it was just the start of his complaints, so she rushed to save me. I gave her a slight nod of appreciation and rushed to the other table.

This would be an easy one.

Our second regular was a man in his mid-twenties. His arms and neck were covered in tattoos, and the whole aura around him screamed 'run', but you could not be more wrong about him.

This man looked nothing like people coming to this place. He wore an expensive suit, a watch that was probably gold, and shoes that could pay a couple of months of my bills. He had a strong jaw and brown eyes that looked like they could see through your soul. Not that he looked at me too often. We kept our conversation on a business level.

" Here you go. One black coffee and a slice of raspberry pie," I said, placing his order on the table. Since he always ordered the same thing, I learned to prepare it when he came in.

The man raised his head and briefly glanced at me.

" Are you okay?" He asked in a deep, low voice.

" Yes, I am fine...thank you," I replied carefully, surprised by his interest. We never went above the usual client-waitress conversation.

" Are you sure?"

" I am sure."

" Ribbon," he spoke, glancing at me sharply, and my hand shook.

" Ribbon?" I asked, unsure what he was asking about. Then it hit me. The small black ribbon I have attached to my shirt in Adriana's memory. I doubted someone would notice that since my shirt was also black.

" My sister....," I mumbled.

" Was she sick?" The man asked again while his finger moved over the edge of his cup.

" No."

" Accident?"

I shook my head, even if he was not looking at me.

" No. Police said she overdosed, but I think she got in some sort of trouble." I was surprised by my own words. Why would I tell him all of that? This man was a regular but still a complete stranger. I didn't even know his name.

" Mafia?"

I gasped. " What?" This question was ridiculous. We were not in some Italian action movie. There was also no sign of yakuza anywhere near. How could he ask about that? Was he serious? " No, she did not get in trouble with a mafia don."

" You can never be sure about that," the man replied and smiled.

I clenched my hand around the coffee jug I was holding. Was that funny for him?

" I am glad that it amused you," I seethed. We definitely should stay with our conversations where we were until now.

" I did not say that. It is just that you can never know who you meet," the man replied, unfazed by my outburst.

" I am pretty sure I knew who my sister was meeting. Is that all?"

The man looked at me and said nothing. I left his table, shaking with anger.

" Are you sure it was a good idea to come here today?" Mary looked at me with concern. " People here can be pretty careless and coarse at times.

" No kidding," I replied, glancing back at the mysterious man.

He seemed to forget about our conversation and focused on his pie.

" Stella, I do not want you to get more hurt than you already are." Mary came closer, but I took a step back.

" I am fine," I replied, harsher than intended, and Mary's eyes widened. I immediately regretted my behaviour. " I am sorry, I didn't mean to. I just can't be at home where everything reminds me about Adriana."

Mary smiled gently. " Do what is best for you, but let me know when it will be too much."

I nodded and looked around as the bell above the door rang.

The mysterious man was gone. I rushed to his table to collect the money. On top of the bills was a folded piece of paper.

' If you need help, call.' I stared at the number written below. Why would I need help from this man?

I placed the paper inside my pocket and forgot about it. I still had a few hours until the end of my shift when my mobile rang. It was Kate, one of my few friends.

" Kate? Is everything okay?" I asked, picking up. Kate was introverted and hated making calls.

" Stella, I need to show you something. Cone to me as soon as you can."

My friend's tone gave me goosebumps.

Hades's POVI entered the kitchen and saw Stella in a pose that could only be described as fight mode. She held a plate of food like a lifecoat, while two of my men glared at her with a gloomy expression. I could see anger flashing in their eyes, and, hell, I didn't like it one bit. They were surrounding her like predators, and that made my blood boil. " What the hell is happening here?" I asked, coming closer. Stella glanced at me with panic, but she stayed in her spot. She was slightly shaking, and I knew this was my fault. "Go to your room," I ordered her, and for once, she did not argue. She quickly left, visibly happy to be out of here. When Stella was gone, I went to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. I have opened it and taken a long sip. My men probably took my action as a sign of calmness and started chatting among themselves. " What the fu*k was that?" I yelled, slamming the bottle against the counter. Both of them looked at me in panic and took a step back as a

  • Bound to the Mafia Boss   Chapter ten

Stella's POV I closed the door to my room and let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. Cold sweat ran down my back as I slipped onto the floor, completely numb. What had just happened? I hid my face in my hands, shaking uncontrollably. Did I just threaten the most dangerous man in this city? What was wrong with me? I was not in a position to make demands, especially since I was locked in his house, surrounded by his deadly helpers. We made a deal, and I hope he would hold to his end of the bargain. But demanding it just like that was like a death wish. What if he was mad at me? What if he will tell me to leave, or worse, he will ask his men to take care of me? You should not mess with mafia members, and you should not mess with their boss. And I just did that. I sat in silence, desperately trying to calm down my heart. I listened to the steps in the hall, but the house seemed quiet. Finally, I forced myself from the floor, even if my knees were still weak.

Hades's POV Everything went quiet when Stella entered the dining room. She looked gorgeous in the gown I gave her. Marissa had an excellent taste. I made a mental note to thank her later. Stella gracefully came closer, and I noticed Javier had stopped breathing momentarily, admiring her. I did not like it one bit. " There she is," I spoke, standing up. Stella shyly looked around, and I rushed to her side. " Come on, dear, meet my friends," I said, ensuring her attention was on me. I leaned forward as if I tried to kiss her, but instead, I whispered. " Showtime." Stella nodded, and I took her hand. " Javier, meet my love, Stella," I introduced her, ensuring to put an accent on the word 'my'. He was known for constantly hitting at women, usually way above his league. I pulled Stella closer to me, hoping he would get a hint. Then I glanced at the woman sitting next to him. " And this is his sister, Vivian," I added coldly. Stella seemed to recognise my tone, and she imme

  • Bound to the Mafia Boss   Chapter eight.

Stella's POV I looked around the room Liam had assigned to me. It was spacious and bright. In the middle was the enormous bed with beautiful silk sheets. I touched the soft fabric. The air was filled with the delicate scent of flowers. I noticed a small bouquet standing on the bedside drawer. This room was nothing I expected from a place like this. But I wouldn’t be myself if I hadn't done one thing. I opened the wardrobe and looked inside. There were no skeletons, but I had to check. To be honest, it was completely empty, so I placed my own bag inside. Since 'unpacking' took me ten seconds, I had more time to familiarise myself with the place. Soon, I discovered a bathroom with a giant bathtub in the middle. Soft towels were neatly folded on the table next to it. Drawers were filled with every accessory a woman could ask for. There were various shampoos, conditioners, creams, and other things I could barely recognise. I sat on the bathtub's edge, wondering if Liam had

  • Bound to the Mafia Boss   Chapter seven

Hades's POVI watched Stella's eyes widen in... shock, fear, I could not tell. She seemed to be frozen, unable to speak. " Hello, " I said, hoping my voice would sound calm. It looked like this single word brought her back to reality. " You are the boss?" She asked, but the question came out as a squeak. People usually reacted like this, but in different circumstances. I was not a threat to her. " I am." My reply was simple. Stella shook her head. " You did not tell me." This time, it sounded like an accusation. I raised my brow, surprised by how quickly she composed herself. I was genuinely impressed. " You never asked," I replied with a slight smirk, and she gasped. " I usually do not ask people if they were involved in the criminal industry."" Fair enough," I chuckled. " Do you want to sit?" I asked, pointing to the chair in front of my desk. Stella offered me a suspicious look, so I moved to my seat, leading by example. She slowly followed my lead. " I am sure you have some

  • Bound to the Mafia Boss   Chapter six

Stella's POV My body felt numb. Liam offered to take me home, but I politely declined, too scared that her would notice how freaked out I was. He did not pressure me; he just called the cab and waited until I was gone. When I reached my home, my body gave up completely. I sat on the floor, leaning against the wall for support. He was a member of the mafia! My head was spinning whenever those words appeared in my mind. Of course, it could be some kind of sick joke, but my guts were telling me it was a freaking truth. Now, it all made sense. His terrifying, mysterious aura. How the others stayed away from him, too scared to bother him. But, mafia? I could not even believe it was a real thing. Maybe somewhere else, but here? It seemed surreal. I have spent another fifteen minutes staring at the wall. What have I done? I could easily answer that question. I got myself bound to a member of the mafia. If that wasn't scary enough, I offered to do anything in exchange for his h
