Naomi’s POV

I rubbed my temples as I felt a headache start to creep in. The sound of my boots on the floor was one of the things I was grateful for as they grounded me back to reality. I felt exhaustion creep into my bones, and I sighed softly.

That smell of fire and sulphur and danger still lingered in the air and I instinctively scrunched my nose at the smell of the smoke. Heavy and thick smoke still rose from the chaos and the buildings which those attackers had burnt down to the ground.

At least, the numbers of warriors that were carrying to dispose dead bodies and trying to restore properties had reduced significantly and although I wasn't so happy that there were dead people, I was glad that they were slightly less destruction around now.

Marcus is silent beside me, his face tight and his jaw locked. He didn’t speak more after he had assures me a little earlier. Marcus, too much emotional bonding wasn’t for him. I can hear the voice in his head that was telling him to detach

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 49: The Blood Oath Secret.

Naomi’s POV The birth led me to the empty and dark hallways. I swallowed. What did they want to show me? Was was so important that they were both clearly in tension? What did I not know? They finally stopped walking, standing and facing a wall by the hallway. A wall? I raised my head, my gaze shifting from Marcus to Logan. What the hell? "W—" I scoffed, unable to form words as I crossed my arms, "A wall? Seriously? I'd this some sort of joke to you guys?" Logan turned to look at me, a smirk on his lips, "Yes, Naomi. A wall. You see—" Logan tried to start explaining, but Marcus barely glanced at me or uttered a word as he knocked four times in the wall...he knocked four times to the right side, then repeated at the left, then bottoms. I stared at Logan for some sort of explanation, but he only shrugged, his eyes fixed on the activity Marcus was engrossed in. I took a deep breath and then decided to trust the process, after all, what was the worst that could happen? The wall made a

Naomi’s POV My head whipped to the side, Logan bursting into the room, the door clicking shut behind him. His eyes moved from my face to Marcus’s, and then back to mine.I instantly jerked my leg away from Marcus, resisting the urge to hiss at the pain of the absence of his warm tongue on it. I felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment and shame, "And again I ask, what the hell is going on here?" He glared daggers at Marcus. Marcus only slowly raised his head, wiped the blood off the corner of his lips with the back of his palm, and then slowly stood up, the corners of his lips slightly quirking upwards. He didn’t even look bothered that he was caught by someone I was seeing. He didn’t answer, the glint in his eyes hinting at amusement. The smug bastard. Logan’s eyes narrowed, and I noticed the slight clench of his fists and the subtle grind if his jaw. His eyes finally left Marcus and then he cast a sweeping glance at me slowly, from my head to my toe. Marcus just leaned over by the

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 46: Shadows Within

The silence that followed after wasn’t the suffocating kind, no. It was the kind of silence that was comfortable, which is a little weird because Marcus and I had never had any sort of heart to heart conversation since, well, we separated.I take a silent deep breath, my body itching to stare at him. To not notice the man that was standing beside me. I tried to remind myself that now wasn't the time and there were more important things to direct my attention to. Like this chaos that didn’t seem to want to leave, or the number of warriors carrying the massacred corpses to bury. The distant sound of sirens wailing and wolves howling in despair and pain echoed all through the night air.Marcus just stood right beside me with an air of nonchalance, his eyes fixed somewhere beyond the woods. After he had tried to talk to me and I had calmed down, he had been unusually quiet. Not unusually though. Marcus was never much of a tape and only ever spoke when he needed to. Marcus was...I didn’t k

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 45: The Morning After

Naomi’s POVWe didn’t move. Not at first. It was as if everything and everyone froze at the sound of the horn. The silence after the horn was louder than the war before it, I could swear on my life. The silence rang in my ears like a scream that had been swallowed, like the ghosts of all the noise were still trapped in the smoke. I didn’t even realise my hands were shaking until Galen said my name.“Naomi,” he rasped, staring back at me from the side, still clutching to his abdomen. I blinked. “I’m here,” I exhaled, "I'm here." I muttered, as if trying to convince myself too.He exhaled like that was enough, like my voice meant something still worked in this wreckage.Bodies littered the east side. Some of the body belonged to our people, some belonged to them. The fires were dying, but the smoke clung to everything, curling around our feet like it was trying to drag us down with the dead. I stepped over a broken spear, over a boy I didn’t know, his eyes still open, staring at nothin

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 44: The Night Breaks

Naomi’s POVThe stars were nowhere to be found on the sky. They seemed to be shining from behind the cloud. Typical. Even the sky didn’t want to witness what was about to unfold. Even me, one tiny little part of me was afraid of what was going to happen tonight and for a tiny flicker of second, I felt like running away, because that was the most easiest option. Running away. But then, that loud voice, the bigger part of me, screamed that I could do this. I exhaled deeply.I could do this. I was a coward once, running away from things I thought mattered, but the truth was that I was scared. I was a scared little girl. But I could do this!I rubbed my sweaty palms on my shirt. From the rooftop, the town looked small. It looked so fragile, it was almost laughable. Almost. It looked like a dollhouse you could crush if you leaned too hard. The lights had been dimmed intentionally, to not give our positions away. Only a few flickering lanterns remained, casting long, stretching shadows lik
