Naomi’s POV

My head whipped to the side, Logan bursting into the room, the door clicking shut behind him. His eyes moved from my face to Marcus’s, and then back to mine.

I instantly jerked my leg away from Marcus, resisting the urge to hiss at the pain of the absence of his warm tongue on it. I felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment and shame,

"And again I ask, what the hell is going on here?" He glared daggers at Marcus. Marcus only slowly raised his head, wiped the blood off the corner of his lips with the back of his palm, and then slowly stood up, the corners of his lips slightly quirking upwards. He didn’t even look bothered that he was caught by someone I was seeing. He didn’t answer, the glint in his eyes hinting at amusement.

The smug bastard.

Logan’s eyes narrowed, and I noticed the slight clench of his fists and the subtle grind if his jaw. His eyes finally left Marcus and then he cast a sweeping glance at me slowly, from my head to my toe. Marcus just leaned over by the

POV: NaomiThe name stayed there, fogged into the mirror like breath on a frozen window.Elenor. It didn’t make any fucking sense. It didn’t belong. It didn’t click. But my reflection, not me, not quite, was still staring back, lips moving in sync with mine even though I hadn’t spoken. Who the hell was she? Because she sure as hell wasn't me! And in the moment that followed, the room seemed to contract. I swallowed, looking around. It felt like walls were beginning to close in on me. The air thickened like I’d just stepped into the eye of a storm that hadn’t yet begun.“No,” I muttered, stepping backward, shaking my head vehemently. My heart was pounding now, a frantic drum against my ribs. I could not breathe. Not at all. I wrapped my arms around my throat, gasping for air through my nose."You will," the echo repeated in my head. "You will become her!" The voice laughed, and the laugh echoed repeatedly in my head.“Shut up.” I backed away, gasping, looking around. “Shut up, shut u

POV: NaomiI woke to a soft light bleeding through pale curtains, painting thin stripes across the ceiling. For a moment, I thought I was somewhere else—somewhere quiet and untouched. But the weight in my chest said otherwise. It didn't feel like pain. Not exactly. Ot felt more like a heaviness, like someone had pressed their hand to my sternum and refused to let go. My head throbbed gently, not from noise but the lack of it. Everything was too quiet. Like the world had hit pause and forgotten to restart. It felt as silent as it was in that place...My body felt different. Slower. Wrong. Like I’d borrowed someone else’s skin and bones and forgotten the return date.I shifted slightly, expecting soreness. It was there, but muted. I turned my head. There, in the corner, was Marcus. He was asleep in a chair too small for someone his size, his back hunched over and his arms locked around a leather-bound book... like a journal like it might disappear if he let go.His jaw twitched in sleep

Marcus' POVNaomi was still asleep. Her breathing had steadied sometime after midnight, and though the healer claimed she'd wake by dawn, I couldn’t stop staring at her pale face which, for some reason, was paler than usual. Almost white. I sat still, my breath held, waiting for the smallest sign that she’d open her eyes and make a sarcastic remark or complain about the sheets. But nothing.I sat by her side, elbows on knees, hands clasped, every few seconds glancing at the steady rise and fall of her chest. Her breathing was easier now. Not great, not like herself, but better. The healer had said her spiritual tether was still fragile. She said she would wake fully by dawn as long as no one disturbed her. "Her spiritual tether is like glass right now," she'd said. . That had to count for something. She also said that pushing her awake too soon could unravel her from her body again. She was fragile... easy to fracture.I sat beside Naomi’s bed, elbows resting on my knees, watching th

Naomi's POV"W–what do you mean?" I breathed, taking a step towards her. My hands were shaking. I didn’t know if it was fear or anger, or maybe both. The woman just smiled, as if she had all the time in the world. She patted the bench beside her again. "Come. Sit. There’s much to tell."I hesitated,my heart thundering wildly against my chest. My body trembled all over. I took a shaky breath. The place still felt off. It was too calm, too white. The grass had just appeared like magic wherever she stepped foot, and the air smelled like fresh rain and something sweet. I didn’t trust it. I didn’t trust her. Something in me just told me she wasn't it.But something in me told me I needed to listen. I had to listen. After all, most of the things she had said were facts. She didn't lie.I stepped forward slowly, then sat down at the edge of the bench, still keeping a little space between us.The woman’s voice was low and gentle. Like a whisper that still echoed loud in my bones. “You were no

Naomi’s POV The birth led me to the empty and dark hallways. I swallowed. What did they want to show me? Was was so important that they were both clearly in tension? What did I not know? They finally stopped walking, standing and facing a wall by the hallway. A wall? I raised my head, my gaze shifting from Marcus to Logan. What the hell? "W—" I scoffed, unable to form words as I crossed my arms, "A wall? Seriously? I'd this some sort of joke to you guys?" Logan turned to look at me, a smirk on his lips, "Yes, Naomi. A wall. You see—" Logan tried to start explaining, but Marcus barely glanced at me or uttered a word as he knocked four times in the wall...he knocked four times to the right side, then repeated at the left, then bottoms. I stared at Logan for some sort of explanation, but he only shrugged, his eyes fixed on the activity Marcus was engrossed in. I took a deep breath and then decided to trust the process, after all, what was the worst that could happen? The wall made a
