Chapter 2

ผู้เขียน: Stars
"What is it, sweetheart? What does that boy need from me this time?"

Almost every time I reached out to my father, it was for Xander. All these years, if I hadn't been paving the road for him behind the scenes, he would still be a nobody clerk going nowhere.

At the sound of my father's voice, the tears spilled out before I could stop them. "Daddy..."

He panicked the second he heard me choke up. "What's wrong? Who hurt you? Daddy will deal with him."

I cried harder, all the hurt breaking loose at once. "Dad, I want you to pull every investment we have in Xander Blackwood's pack."

He understood immediately. I could hear his voice shaking with the fury he was holding down. "Done. That brute dares hurt my daughter? I'll make him pay for every bit of it."

When the link cut off, I felt unbelievably light. All the hurt and bitterness from minutes ago had scattered like smoke.

That's right. I had family. I had power of my own. There was no reason to waste tears on a man who wasn't worth them.

And Xander was a genuine fool. He thought winning Vivienne meant winning her family's backing. He had no idea Vivienne was only an adopted daughter who couldn't stir up a ripple, while I was the daughter of the strongest Alpha in the North.

The old Alpha only took him in because he had secured cooperation and investment from my father. The old Alpha merely wanted to use him and never intended to pass the Alpha’s position to a bastard.

Once he lost even that usefulness, he would be cast out without a second thought.

The thought lightened my mood. Sooner or later, he would pay for his betrayal.

I headed to the company to hand in my resignation and collect my documents. The moment I pushed open the door, I caught my colleagues staring at me with strange looks.

I did not understand their gazes at first. But as I walked past Xander’s office, soft gasps drifted out, freezing me in place.

Through the half-open door, I saw Vivienne sitting on his lap, her face flushed. Two buttons of her shirt were undone, revealing a large expanse of fair skin. Xander’s hands roamed over her body greedily, a look of pure enjoyment on his face.

I finally realized what lay behind my colleagues’ complicated expressions—sympathy, gossip, and undisguised glee.

I had no desire to deal with their sordid affair and turned to leave, yet my documents were still inside his office. I decided to wait for them to finish, but they clung to each other inseparably. Half an hour passed, and they showed no sign of stopping.

Having run out of patience, I marched forward and pushed the door open.

Xander jumped to his feet the second he saw me, panic flashing across his face. “Serena, it’s not what you think.”

I ignored him, walked straight to the filing cabinet and retrieved my papers. “I’m just here to hand in my resignation and get my things.”

A look of feigned realization crossed Xander’s face. “Yes. I was just about to pack up and hand in my resignation too.”

I did not expose his pathetic lie and turned to leave. Just then, Vivienne’s sarcastic voice rang out behind me.

“I heard a big firm offered you a position. I couldn’t help wondering who’d hire a useless nobody with neither talent nor connections. You know exactly how you landed that job.”

I halted in my tracks, spun around with a cold expression and stared sharply at her. “What are you trying to say?”

Emboldened by my reaction, she grew even more insolent. “You know perfectly well what I mean. Apart from your scrawny figure, do you have anything of value left?”

I gritted my teeth. “Watch your mouth.”

Vivienne stepped up to me and gave me a meaningful look. She grabbed my hand, then suddenly lurched backward as if losing her balance and fell heavily to the floor. Her eyes welled up with tears in an instant.

“Serena, did my words upset you? Why did you push me?”

Xander, who had stayed silent while she insulted me, now wore an angry frown as he looked at me. “Serena, even if Vivienne spoke harshly, you had no right to lay a hand on her. I'm truly disappointed in you.”

"After all, she's your girlfriend." Vivienne's voice was soft and wounded, every inch the bigger person.

"Girlfriend or not, Serena doesn't get to hurt you." Xander cupped Vivienne's face, his voice melting with tenderness as he soothed her.

Then he turned to me, and his tone dropped to ice. "If there's nothing else, you can go."

He didn't have to tell me. I had no desire to spend one more second in that disgusting place.

I took my files and walked out.

Deep down, he knew perfectly well that everything Vivienne did was an act. But he couldn't afford to offend her, not with his power and position on the line, so he dumped his anger on me to keep her happy.

  • Boyfriend’s Regret After Tricking Me Into Leaving the Pack   Chapter 7

I walked out to the front gate, and the man standing there was almost beyond recognition. He looked no different from a beggar now. Matted hair, ragged clothes, and a tiny pup swaddled in his arms. His hair had grown long enough to cover half his face, hiding whatever expression he wore.I brought him to a conference room and sent my assistant out to buy a can of milk powder for the pup. The little thing was skin and bones, and he sucked down that hard-won meal like it might be snatched away.Only then did Xander finally speak, his voice rasping like dried-out bark. And I finally learned what these past few years had done to him.His father had thrown him out of the family and fired him in the same breath. With no job and no income, he was squeezed out at every turn in the pack. Even his house was seized to cover his debts, and with nowhere to live, he drifted from street to street. When his affair with Vivienne came to light, her noble family cast her out too.Two people with nowhere

Serena's POVThree years later, our team developed the cure for wolfsbane. The moment the news broke, the entire wolf world erupted. The Alpha King himself presented our team with medals. He held a celebration banquet in our honor. When I walked into the hall in a custom gown, every guest in the room rose up cheering and applauding. Then a familiar voice cut through the crowd."Serena Frost? It really is you."Three years apart, and when my former lover stood in front of me again, I almost didn't recognize him.Not because my memory was bad. He had simply changed too much. He was a completely different man from three years ago.The Xander who used to walk around like the world owed him had gone haggard and worn. He looked ten years older, and the streaks of white at his temples were impossible to miss.Clearly, these three years had not been kind to him. At the very least, he hadn't become Alpha the way he had planned."Serena, it's me. Xander."He stepped forward slowly and held out h

I didn't remember how I left that office. By the time I came back to myself, I was sitting on the living room couch, and the wound on my head had already scabbed over.My father's words circled my skull like a death sentence.I was his illegitimate son. If he threw me out of the family, my life was finished.I tried to contact Serena, but she had vanished off the face of the earth. I made dozens of calls, and every single one came back not in service. And of course that was the moment Vivienne chose to come slinking over. She draped herself across me and put on her sweetest baby voice. "Stop frowning all the time. I bought something lacy. Why don't we..."She undid two buttons of my shirt.Once upon a time, I might have played along and had some fun with her. Now I was wound so tight I couldn't even stand the sight of her.I flung her hand away. "Not in the mood."She froze, clearly thrown, then leaned in again anyway. My patience snapped. I shoved her to the floor and snarled at her.

Xander's POVA month later, I came home from the Moonlight Forest trip, dropped onto the couch dead tired, and called her name out of pure habit."Serena."No one answered.I frowned, irritated, and called again. "Serena, quit sulking. I'm starving. Go make me something to eat."Nothing answered me but endless silence.Only then did it sink in. Serena was gone. Before, every time I came home, there would be a hot meal waiting on the table and a bath already drawn. Now the house was cold enough to make my skin crawl.I let out a sigh. The longing wrapped around me so tight I could barely breathe. How was she doing out there? Was she settling into the new job? Was she getting used to life in another pack?I wanted to hear her voice.I reached for her through the mind-link. She rejected it.I froze for a second, then tried again. No matter how many times I reached out, she rejected me every single time.Serena had never once rejected my link. What was going on?A wave of dread crawled thr

That night, Xander came home reeking of alcohol. The second the door opened, he rushed over and locked me in a crushing hug."Serena, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you. I bought you a present. Do you like it?"He pulled a small box from his pocket. Inside sat a delicate ring."As soon as I finish handing off my work, I'll quit and leave the pack with you."Vivienne's perfume clung to his clothes, and my stomach started to churn. Then I saw the bright lipstick mark on his collar, and I shoved him off me."I've already turned in my resignation, and all my withdrawal paperwork is done. My flight leaves first thing tomorrow, so I'm going to bed early. If there's nothing else, go back to your own room."Xander stayed silent for a long while. Then, suddenly, "Serena, the truth is, I..."His phone rang. I recognized the ringtone instantly. It was the one he had set just for Vivienne. He answered, and a conflicted look crossed his face right away. He shot me a guilty glance, muttered
