Emma's POV

We drove back to the rink. Did not plan to. Just ended up there.

Setup still intact. Lights on. Photos displayed. Like waiting for us.

Felt like lifetime had passed since we were here earlier. But only four hours.

Four hours that changed everything. And nothing.

Jake parked. Looked at the building. "I am not letting Victoria ruin this. I am doing this."

"Jake, we are exhausted. We just survived press conference. We can do this another time."

"No. Tonight. Now. Before anything else goes wrong."

We went inside. Empty. Quiet. Just us and the lights and the memories.

Jake took my hand. Led me to center ice. Where Alex had been standing earlier with his sign.

Then he got down on one knee. Finally.

"Emma, we have been through hell. Multiple times. Custody battles. Family conflicts. Business rivals. Revenge plots. And we keep surviving. Together."

I was already crying.

"You are not perfect. I am not perfect. But we are perfect together. In our messy, complicated, chaotic way."

Said they had good selection.Sales associate greeted us. "What is your budget?""Under two thousand," I said clearly.Margaret's eyebrows raised. "That is quite modest for a wedding dress.""That is what I am comfortable spending."Associate showed us options in my price range. Simple. Elegant. Exactly what I wanted.Margaret kept wandering to different section. Pulling expensive gowns. "What about this one? Or this?""Those are beautiful. But out of my budget.""This one is fifteen thousand. Very reasonable for wedding dress.""Not for me it is not.""Emma, Jake can afford it. Do not be stubborn about this.""I am paying for my own dress."Mar

  • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    Confrontation

Emma's POVI drove to Margaret's house. No warning. No appointment. Just showed up.She answered. Surprised. "Emma. I did not expect you.""We need to talk. Now."She let me in. We sat in her formal living room. Uncomfortable. Tense."About the venue—" she started."You booked a venue without our permission. After we explicitly told you not to make any commitments.""I was trying to help. You said you liked it when you saw it.""I said it was nice. That is not the same as wanting to get married there.""Well, it is booked now. Deposit is non-refundable. Five thousand dollars.""Then you lose your deposit. We are not getting married there."Margaret's face hardened. "That is wasteful. Impractical.""That is what happens when you make decisions without asking. You waste your own money.""Emma, I am trying to give you the wedding you deserve. The wedding Jake deserves. Something beautiful. Memorable.""We deserve the wedding we want. Not the one you think we should have.""The ice rink i

  • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    Margaret's "Help"

Jake's POVI called Margaret back. Set boundaries before she got too involved."You can suggest vendors. Send options. But Emma and I make all final decisions. This is our wedding.""Of course. I just want to help. I have connections. Experience planning events. I can make this easier for you both.""We appreciate that. But suggestions only. No bookings. No commitments. Understand?""Understood. I will respect your boundaries."Should have known better.Emma was uncomfortable from the start. "Your mother planning our wedding? What could go wrong?""She is not planning it. She is helping. There is a difference.""Is there? With Margaret?""She has been good. For months. We give her a chance."Emma reluctantly agreed. Margaret could help with flower arrangements. Catering options. Nothing major.Within two days, Margaret had sent seventeen emails.Flower options: all expensive. All elaborate. Nothing like the simple arrangements Emma wanted.Catering companies: all high-end. All formal.

  • Breaking Up With The Hottest Man On Ice    The Planning Begins

Emma's POVWe set the date. Six months away. October wedding. Perfect timing.Small intimate ceremony. That was the plan. Close friends and family only.Location was easy. The ice rink where we first met. Where Jake proposed. Where everything began.Renting it for entire evening. Private event. Just us and people we loved."This will be perfect," I said, looking at venue photos."Agreed. Simple. Meaningful. Us."But then reality of planning hit.I was running marketing for growing company. Jake was CEO. We were busy. Constantly.Who had time to plan a wedding?Sarah volunteered as maid of honor immediately. "I will help with everything. Whatever you need."Alex was ring bearer obviously. Already practicing walking slowly with pillow.Jake's father offered to walk me down the aisle. "Your father is not here. I would be honored to stand in."Made me cry. Good cry. James Sullivan had become more father to me than my own ever was."I would love that. Thank you."Budget discussion happened

She will destroy my son. She trapped him with pregnancy. She took my money and disappeared. She is manipulative. Calculating. Everything wrong with Jake's life traces back to her."My stomach dropped. Margaret said those things. Actually said them.Context missing though. When was this? Who was she talking to? Why?Media did not care about context. Just had Margaret Sullivan calling future daughter-in-law poison. That was gold.Headlines immediate."Sullivan Matriarch: Emma Reed is Poison""Jake Sullivan's Mother Warns Against Fiancée""Even His Own Mother Thinks She's Toxic"Phone rang. Margaret. Panicked."Emma, I am so sorry. That recording is from two years ago. During custody battle. Before therapy. Before I knew you. "Tommy admits he was taunting Alex. About family matters. The recent news.""What specifically did he say?" I pressed.Tommy's mother spoke up. Had not noticed her in the corner. "My son made a comment. He should not have. But that does not justify violence.""What comment?" Emma repeated.Tommy mumbled something.
