Jane's POV

The house was quiet. The hallway was quiet, almost too quiet for a house. The housekeeper stopped in front of a door and turned to me.

"I'm Josephine, and this is your room," she said gently.

I only nodded. I didn’t have the strength or maybe the will to say anything to her or anyone. All I needed was answers to the questions swirling through my mind.

She looked at me for a moment, studying my face. Then she asked softly, “If I may ask, are you mute?”

I shook my head slowly and finally found my voice, though it came out barely above a whisper. “No.”

Her face relaxed, a flicker of relief crossing her features. “You have a lot to say, but you didn’t say anything.”

That surprised me. My eyes darted to hers. “How did you know?” I asked.

She smiled faintly, like she understood me more than I understood myself. “I could see it in your eyes. The pain, the confusion, the questions… I could see all of them.”

Just like that, a tear slipped down my cheek. I didn’t wipe it away. I didn’t speak. I just stood there, cracked open in silence.

Then, gently, she took my hand. Her touch was warm and comforting in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time.

“This place isn’t the best,” she said. “But I promise you… it will be better than where you came from.”

I nodded again, unsure if I believed her, but desperately wanting to. I can only hope.

She was about to leave when the question tumbled out of me, unplanned. “What is he like? Alpha Liam… how is he?”

She paused. “We experience different versions of people,” she said, staring into my eyes as if she was trying to connect with my soul.

“I just want to know… so I can prepare myself.”

“You’ll have to find out for yourself,” she replied.

Her unreadable tone made me more confused.

Then she added, “Your uniform will be sent to you,” and without another word, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving me alone with my thoughts, my pain, and the mysterious weight of my new life.

Not long after, the maid uniform came. The uniform lay smooth against my skin, black and white, far better than the rough, worn-out clothes I wore back in Theo’s pack. At least here, the fabric was clean and soft. Almost too soft for someone like me.

Still trying to make sense of Josephine’s words, I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands clasped tightly in my lap. Every minute led me closer to the mystery that was coming.

Darkness had swallowed the world outside, and I knew it was time. It was time to know what was waiting for me. I would soon find out what kind of job he brought me here to do.

“Thinking a lot, are you?” The voice hit me like a thunderclap, deep and commanding.

I jumped to my feet, my heart slamming against my chest. I hadn’t even heard the door open.

“Alpha Liam,” I managed, my voice catching as I tried to calm my racing breath.

“Come with me,” he said flatly, turning without another word.

“Where… where are we going?” I asked, the fear already tightening in my throat.

He didn’t stop walking. “To your first task, bunny.”

Bunny. That word again. It made me feel small, breakable and owned.

My courage barely scraped itself together. “Why am I here?” I asked, my voice trembling.

He stopped. Turned halfway. “You’re here because I bought you.”

I know he bought me but his words stung in a different way. I sighed, a mix of frustration and quiet pain rising in my chest.

“Why did you buy me?” I asked.

“I bought you because you were not needed there,” he said, looking at me without a shred of emotion. “I need you. I bought you. Simple.”

But it wasn’t simple. It wasn't simple for me. Something about his words triggered a memory. I remember the way he had said that same thing the night we first met. “I need you and I will buy you”

That haunted me more than anything else because he eventually bought me just like he had said.

“Why would you need me? Why would you need someone like me?” I asked, even though I knew I shouldn’t.

He stepped toward me. His steps were slow and deliberate. He stopped just one step away. His scent hit me hard, powerful and intoxicating. It made my knees weak.

I looked away, unable to hold his gaze, fear crawling over me like a second skin.

“Look here, bunny,” he said in a low growl. “You don’t ask me questions. You do what I tell you to do.”

Before I could respond, he grabbed my wrist. It was firm but not painful. Just like that, he pulled me out of the room. My feet struggled to keep up and I stumbled as I tried to, but he didn’t stop or slow down. He dragged me like I weighed nothing.

He finally stopped in front of a large door and opened it. The second I stepped in, I knew it was his room.

I had no idea what he wanted from me and why he brought me to his room.

Why am I here? The question screamed in my mind as he flung me onto the bed. My body bounced slightly on the thick mattress, my heart thudding so hard it echoed in my ears.

Panic surged through me, prickling my skin. I pushed myself upright quickly, scrambling to the corner of the bed before anything could go wrong.

My eyes were widely open as I watched him. He didn’t move closer.

He just stood there, watching me with his eyes. His gaze was unreadable, dark, and steady but mine couldn't hold onto it. Then he slowly began to unbutton his black shirt.

My breath caught as he popped each button open.

Why is he undressing himself? I pondered as my eyes glanced away from him.

I clutched my arms tightly around my chest, trying to shield myself, even though I was still fully clothed. I felt vulnerable and exposed like a prey caught in a trap.

Then his shirt dropped to the ground. His chest was bare, muscular, firm, covered in tattoos I didn’t have the courage to stare at too long. I forced my eyes away again, biting back the fear rising in my throat.

Was he really planning to do it? Just like that? Without asking? Without even speaking?

He must have seen the fear written all over my face, before he said, “I sleep without clothes… but because of you, I’ll sleep with my pants on.” He didn’t sound angry or eager. He just said it like a fact.

I didn’t know whether to feel relief or confusion.

“Because of me?” I asked, stuttering.

“What did I say about you asking me questions?” His voice was flat, and surprisingly calm.

I didn’t relax. I couldn't relax. I sat stiffly on the edge of the bed, my hands trembling in my lap but I managed to talk again.

“I just want to know why I'm here in your room.”

“You are here to work,” he said, moving to the other side of the bed. “Now, come to bed.”

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane “You are a curse in human form,” his words were still ringing in my head as I sat on the edge of my bed. Night came so fast and I was supposed to go to him. But I couldn’t go, not after what he said. He wants me to stay away from him after telling me I was his pain relief. What kind of a weirdo was he? He called me a curse. His words clutched my chest tightly. If he saw me as a curse, why did he buy me from Alpha Theo? Why did he refer to me as his pain relief? When I thought I was starting to understand him, he insulted me and pushed me away. So I've decided not to go to him tonight. He can't push me away and expect me to draw to him again. Never. He might have bought me and save me from disgrace but his insults are more than I can bear. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t expect the door to burst open. But it did. And the worst part was Alpha Liam strode in like a storm, his eyes blazing.“You didn’t come,” he said simply, like he couldn’t quite believe it.Shocked to see him,

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I walked through the hallway, my mind drifted to the old book I found in Alpha Liam's study. That book had something I should know. The way I reacted to that book was not ordinary. The way it seemed to hum in my veins. I needed to see it again. I needed to understand why it felt like a part of me. It could answer my questions, if not all of them. With determination, I went to his study again. I shouldn't have gone back there. But something kept pulling me there. I don't know if it was curiosity or a supernatural connection. The door creaked as I stepped inside. The scent of him still lingered in the air, strong with something darker. It felt like a warning but I didn't adhere to it. Instead, I moved swiftly. I moved toward the shelf where I’d first seen the burnt book, my fingers trembling as I reached for the stack. I searched through the first stack, then the second and found nothing. “It should be here,” I told myself as I searched through it again. “Looking for somet

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I stirred awake, I looked around me as the memories of last night flooded my mind. Alpha Liam! I jumped up to see him but to my greatest disappointment, I woke up alone.I was on the bed and the sheets beside me were cold. His scent lingered faintly in the air but the alpha was nowhere to be found.A sudden tightness gripped my chest. I wanted to know if he slept well. To know if his pain had relieved him. To hold him this morning if he still needed me to. But he left. He left before I woke up. I got up slowly, pulled on my dress, and stepped into the hallway. Because he didn't wake up beside me doesn't mean I can't check up on him in his room. So with determination, I went to his room. Another wave of disappointment washed over me when I got there. His room was empty, the fireplace was dying. Where would he be this morning?Maybe his study.I turned and made my way to his study, hoping he’d be there buried in books. But he wasn't there either. Where was he? I wondered as

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Alpha Liam

Alpha Liam's POV I woke before the sun did. Even before the birds started singing. Before anyone in the castle stirs awake. The room was still as I turned to the person beside me. Last night's event flooded my mind like a wave. My heart ache started, I dragged myself to Jane's room, I kissed her and slept beside her. Despite the storm in my mind, the room was too quiet. If not for the sound of her soft breathing beside me, I wouldn't have believed that last night happened. She was curled beside me, her head resting near my chest, her hand lightly over my shirt, as if it belonged there. And the most unsettling part was that it felt like it did. My heart, the most traitorous thing, beat more steadily than it had in months. The ache that usually clawed at my ribs during the night was gone. It was silenced all because she had touched and held me.I can't believe that I crawled back to her after doing everything in my power to stay away. I don't know why things just end up the way I d

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I thought the dream had ended until something gripped my leg.It was hard and desperate. Tight enough to take me from the dream world to the real world. I jolted upright, screaming as my heart was still racing from the dream and the grip.As I opened my eyes, it was no longer smoke or fire that surrounded me. It was darkness. Real and heavy darkness. The type that blind your eyes and heart at once. Quickly, I turned on the lamp beside my bed. And there, at the edge of my bed, was a figure. My breath stopped as I saw Alpha Liam. He was on his knees, clutching my leg like an anchor, his face masked with pain. His whole body trembled slightly, and his muscles became tense. One of his arms was wrapped tightly around his chest, the other grasping my thigh as if I was the only thing keeping him grounded.“Jane,” he said, groaning. The low, ragged sounds pulled from his throat scared the hell out of me. The way his head hung down, the way he clutched his chest reminded me of

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I stood in front of Alpha Liam’s door, my hand hovering over the handle. Should I go in? Would he want to see me after chasing me out like a dog? Was I ready to face him? To be honest, I was mad at him for yelling at me. One minute, he is normal, the next, he is abnormal. He acts like someone with bipolar issues. I turned the handle and stepped inside, bracing myself for whatever happens. He was already sitting on the edge of the bed, shirt half-buttoned, hair still damp from a shower. His eyes were on me the second I entered. Surprisingly, it was not cold or dark. It was like he was waiting for me to come.“I'm here to sleep with you,” I said without thinking. He patted the space beside him. “Sit.”Now he wants me to sit beside him. What is going on with this man? Did carrying the weight of a pack cause him to have a twisted brain?I hesitated for just a moment, then crossed the room and sat beside him, not too close, but close enough to feel the heat radiating from hi
