Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
...

"I didn't do anything. Why should I apologize?" I struggled to stand up.

My defiance annoyed Colin. He kicked me in the stomach, sending me back down.

Pain shot through my body. I couldn't even speak.

Joyce tugged at his arm, looking uneasy. "No violence, Colin. We can talk it out with her."

He looked at her scratch, pulling her close. "I'm worried about you. You don't have to speak up for her. Stay back and watch how I make this right for you."

She snuggled up against him, shaking her head. "It's fine. She doesn't have a cat or love them like I do. Understandably, she didn't handle it right. I can't hold her responsible, especially since she's hurt."

Colin grudgingly agreed, "Alright. If she apologizes, I'll let it slide."

The others piled on, pointing fingers at me.

"Just take the out and apologize."

"Come on! You're either careless with animals or straight-up abusive."

"Joyce is letting you off. What are you waiting for?"

I tried to get up, but Colin kept pinning me down with his foot, shattering the last bit of hope I was holding onto.

The polite boy in my memory was gone, only a grumpy man left in his place.

He loomed over me. "Apologize!"

My face was pale, but I refused to give in. "For what? Why should I apologize for something I didn't do?"

Someone shouted in the crowd, "What, you think it's right to abuse a cat?"

A bunch of onlookers caught the keyword. Curious or angry, they stepped closer and snapped photos of me.

That schemer pointed at me, spreading lies. "That's her! Looks decent but abuses cats!"

I covered my face, shouting, "I didn't! Check the surveillance. I saved that cat from the fire."

The schemer fell silent, glancing at Colin, who didn't bat an eyelid.

"I know you didn't mean to hurt the cat," he said. "You just don't care about animals. Apologize to Joyce, and I'll let you go. It's your fault the cat freaked out."

I glared, my gaze burning him.

He looked away, then signaled someone to make me bow.

That schemer got close with a smirk. "Wanna get married? You're not bad-looking, and I can grant your wish."

His breath stank of cigarettes.

"Let me go!" I gagged, struggling hard.

The next second, the guy flew two feet back, passing out with a grunt.

A familiar, cool scent hit me as someone helped me up.

I looked up to see a handsome face, and tears poured out.

"You left the party early," he said, his voice deep and soothing. "I got worried and checked the surveillance. I'm sorry I'm late."

  • Breeze Through the Blaze   Chapter 9

...After that talk, I blushed every time I saw Lucien.I couldn't believe a rich guy like him would like me.15 days later, Joyce and Colin's friends were released, and I left the hospital, though my wounds weren't fully healed. The wedding plans were set two months ago, and everything was set. Canceling them would waste all the efforts and money, so I rejected Lucien's suggestion to postpone. On the day I tried on the wedding dresses, Lucien was at a meeting abroad. It was Lauren who kept me company. My scarred arms limited me to three long-sleeve dresses, and I chose the second one.Upon leaving, I ran into Colin and Joyce at the bridal shop.Colin's tone was brusque. "What are you doing here?"I ignored him, sitting on the sofa and waiting for Lauren to return from the bathroom."Colin, this dress is gorgeous!" Joyce spoke up, staring at my dress.I frowned. "This is my wedding dress. If you like it, get one designed. You like stealing stuff so much. Miss the days at th

...Lauren sighed, patting my head. "I'm sorry for what Colin did to you. I told him to apologize, not make it worse."I shook my head. "It's not your fault."I knew how much Lauren cared about Colin, but her focus was on her business abroad. She couldn't be there to teach him manners, while Colin kept his distance, rarely contacting her.He only reached out when he ran out of his allowance."Got time to talk?" she asked softly.I nodded, thinking she wanted to plead for Colin's friends. "Don't worry. I'll sign a forgiveness letter to get his friends out.""That's not it." She took my hand, her tone guilty. "I want to say that you don't owe him anything. I chose to divorce. You just told me the truth, giving me that option. I'm grateful that you did."She paused and added, "I asked him to leave with me, but he begged me to stay, saying he'd convince his dad to fix the family. When I refused, he accused me of being selfish and irresponsible. I was hurt by my husband's cheating

...Colin's cronies were still under detention.Probably, he got out because Lauren had pleaded with Lucien. His swollen face suggested that Lauren had punished him.I never imagined Lucien would take this matter so seriously. After all, we had known each other for only a month and had met twice.I thought our date was nothing but a deal, but Lauren, who introduced us to each other, was trustworthy. That was why I had agreed to meet Lucien in the first place. Before this, Lucien had been refusing to get married. He relented because his grandfather was on his last leg.Lucien was sincere with me, and I decided to do the same.Snapping out of it, I smirked at Colin's entitled attitude. "Want your friends out? Crawl over and beg me."His eyes widened, and he blurted out, "Are you nuts? Who do you think you're talking to?"I yelled back, "And who do you think you're talking to? I put up with you only because I liked you and was grateful to Lauren. Now you only make me sick. You've

...Another guy dismissed it. "Come on! Selena couldn't possibly know a bigshot like Lucien.""That's right. The Lutzs are loaded. No way they're playing house with her."A third guy pointed at Lucien, mouthing off, "Who are you? You think you can just sue us? We've got proof she abused the cat. And you knocked out one of our guys."I shot back immediately, "You're lying! I didn't abuse the cat. I saved it from the fire. Just because Joyce said so, you convicted me? She was holding the cat."I trembled, reeling from the baseless accusation.Just then, someone in the crowd shouted, "I live across from the burned café. This girl risked her life running into the fire to save that cat. Look at the burns in her arms."His testimony silenced those who had been so sure of themselves, and Joyce, the culprit, quickly hid behind Colin.Police sirens wailed closer, and the group finally panicked. "Colin, what do we do?"They thought it was just a prank, but Lucien wasn't messing around.

...Lucien Lutz arrived just in time, supporting me carefully.I relaxed, and all the ignored pain hit me at once.I shook my head, smiling through tears. "Not late. Let's get out of here."He gave me a reassuring look. "My assistant has arranged things. The doctors are ready. I'll get you there in ten minutes. Just give me a second to handle this."He was determined, his eyes betraying his concern.I nodded, thinking I'd delayed his business, but he stepped in front of me, addressing the crowd. "My fiancée was attacked for no reason. You all saw it. Please send me your evidence. I'll pay good money for it."The crowd buzzed with excitement, not expecting that watching and filming the drama could pay off. They quickly shared their videos.Colin and his group fidgeted, sensing an unfavorable situation. His face grim, Colin snorted, "Where did you find this actor? His acting skills are pretty convincing. But no, this won't work. You abused Joyce's cat. We were just gonna let it
