Chapter 125 Our Space

Author: Day Torres
"I don't know what I would've done without you, Allie," Scott confessed. "You've been my strength and my peace through all these months. God knows I've been tense and angry, thinking Daniel might actually walk free. Thank you for standing by me."

"Well, you know what they say—through thick and thin," she replied with a soft smile. "I'm always going to be here for you. And you'll always be there for me."

"Does that mean… we're officially together again?" he asked, batting his lashes at her. "I know I haven't exactly asked you properly—I've just been stealing kisses and… moans."

"Hey! In your defense, those moans were really good!" she teased.

"I know, but I think it's time I do this the right way," he said, suddenly serious. "Alexandra… would you be my girlfriend?"

"Girlfriend?" she held back a laugh. "That's where you're starting?"

"Of course! Every respectable relationship starts there!"

"You want me to be your sweaty-hand-holding girlfriend?" she teased, raising a brow.

Maxine stood to the side, stunned, watching as Liam finally let go of the guy with a disgusted grunt. The man's face was smeared with blood, and Liam looked like he was on the verge of exploding. Then, without a word, he turned to her and pulled her into a tight hug. "Are you okay?" he asked in a whisper. Maxine could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she stared at the mugger lying on the ground. Liam's face was still burning with fury, and she had no idea he could fight like that. Apparently, Liam Harrington wasn't as helpless as his father thought. "Answer me! Are you okay?!" he shook her slightly, and Maxine nodded silently. Within seconds, Liam had her in the car and they were tearing out of that cursed parking lot, tires screeching across the pavement. They drove home in complete silence. As soon as they arrived, Maxine activated the security system, and while he paced around like a caged bear, she actually cornered him in the bathroom and made him lean over the

Maxine pressed her lips together, because honestly, this was more than she could handle without bursting out laughing. Oh, now the bastard remembered she was his wife? "Excuse me?" Cassian's voice was as full of laughter as her own thoughts. "Would you mind explaining that one more time? Your wife?" Liam's jaw tightened with rage. "Yes. My wife…" "Well, congratulations. I'm not really into open relationships, but considering it's her…" Cassian winked at Maxine over Liam's shoulder. "That's enough," Liam growled. "When did I ever say this was an open relationship?" "You didn't have to," Cassian shot back, annoyed. "I think making out with my sister was a clear enough message. Maybe you need to take a step back and realize you don't have the right to be jealous after kissing another woman in front of her face." Liam gripped Maxine's hand with a possessive motion. "That's between her and me. I'll settle for making sure it never crosses your mind to touch her again," he his

"All done!" Maxine exclaimed as she slipped the knife back into her purse. "Do you always carry a balisong?" Cassian murmured, mesmerized. "Of course! A girl's gotta protect herself," she laughed, just as Liam came out of his shock and they all headed into the club. A VIP booth and half a bottle of brandy later, they still hadn't reached any kind of business agreement. Maxine was starting to think the Velmarkians really were just trying to screw with Liam's distribution routes. It was obvious Caroline had a very different agenda, but Liam was genuinely focused on that port bid. Still, Maxine was getting annoyed with Caroline's constant groping—but there wasn't much she could do besides try to concentrate while they talked with Cassian. "I can offer you a portion of the bid—that's all I've got," Cassian finally said. "You know that's not enough," Liam replied. "And on top of that, you want to charge me double the bid price for a quarter of the docking space… That's robbery!"

Liam had no idea why that small, steady hand inside Cassian's big paw bothered him so much or why the simple act of Cassian kissing her knuckles had him turning redder than a tomato. But when everyone finally left, he slammed the intercom button like it was a bomb detonator: "Max!" he shouted. "Get in here now!" But Maxine Johnson didn't flinch at thunder, much less at him. "Yes, Mr. Harrington?" she murmured as she walked in. "What the hell was that about going out with Cassian Wolf?" he snapped, furious. "Well... I just accepted his invitation. Exactly like you did." "I accepted because it's business. I couldn't say no!" he growled. "But you're married!" "Exactly like you are!" she snapped back, dropping the fake smile and stepping toward him. "So go ahead. Yell, complain, throw a fit—but I am going to that get-together tonight, nice and relaxed, because like it or not, you are going to respect me. You forgot real fast that I'm your wife the second that blonde shoved he

He snapped out of his thoughts to listen as she read through all his appointments for the day—until she got to the last one and saw him pull a face. "What's wrong?" she asked, looking at the names again. "Is there a problem with the Wolf siblings?" "Sort of. Cassian and Caroline Wolf are our competition in Eastern Euridia," he said, thoughtful, arms crossed. "You know this is a logistics company—we move goods around the world. And for that, you need three important things: good ships, good routes, and good ports." Maxine paid close attention—if there was one thing she was good at, it was learning. "Recently, the Wolf siblings won the bid for the port of Brinmouth in West Albaryn. They don't even need it—they're pulling out. But for me, it's the perfect gateway to the Albaryn Passage, and they took it from me." "So?" Maxine asked, curious. "So... I called them to negotiate. Caroline Wolf has a weakness I might be able to exploit, but I need them to give me that port, or a bunc

And the worst part was… she was staring at the ceiling! The damn woman was staring at the ceiling like none of it had anything to do with her!She wore a white silk three-quarter sleeve blouse that disappeared under her breasts into a super high-waisted wine-red pencil skirt… though in her case, it was more like a cello-cut skirt! Liam had never seen her in such tight clothes. He'd forgotten she had the waist of a starving model and full hips. Not a single inch of skin was showing anything indecent… and yet she was pure, walking indecency! "Max, go wait for me in my office!" "But… Mr. Harrington, the meeting's not over," she said in a sweet, innocent tone that pushed him even further over the edge. "Yes, Mr. Harrington…" added one of the executives. "The meeting isn't finished." "Well, it's gonna end badly if you all don't stop staring at my assistant. This is a boardroom, and I don't need it to be flooded with more drool than a snail parade!" Liam roared. "Max! Office! Now!
