32. Phantom Pain

The glass chandelier shattered on the floor, creating disharmony in the otherwise silent surroundings. But then again it mingled with my mate's cries of pain and anguish which in turn made me want to kill the one who was the root of her misery. Her pain-filled howls weren't audible to the other servants. I had predicted the Council's surprise visit today but they didn't show up. Keeping her in the attic room was primarily because of them but it seemed that it was a good decision for whatever she was suffering from. I had sent Andrew to fetch news but her misery was aggravating me by minutes.

MyraI opened my eyes to stare at a wooden ceiling of what possibly could be a carriage. My ears picked up the sound of hooves and the occasional sound of a whip. DamianPocketing the note, I padded to the kitchen where Andrew had left some rations. I took the food upstairs and entered the room. Myra was still sleeping peacefully. I admire her sleeping form for a moment from the doorway.
