Amelia

I woke up, got ready for work, and went about my usual morning routine. I was grateful to be working in the kitchen today, instead of serving tables. It was less stressful, and I liked being able to focus on the food instead of the customers.

"Hey, Amelia!" Jake, the head chef, greeted me with a big smile.

Jake had always been especially kind to me ever since I started working there, more so than the other kitchen staff. They were all friendly, but there was something about Jake's kindness that seemed extra special.

"Hey, Jake!" I returned his smile.

"How's everything going?" he asked, as he started chopping vegetables.

"Good, I'm glad to be in the kitchen today," I said, grabbing a few plates from the stack. "I feel like I can relax a bit more when I'm getting orders instead of serving."

"I hear ya!" he laughed. "The customers can be a bit much sometimes. At least the food never complains!"

"So, How's the cooking going, Jake?" I smiled, asking.

"As always, it's exhausting but rewardi
