LOGINLyra’s POV
When I woke up, my body felt numb. It was as though life was drained from me. I felt deeply conflicted and miserable. I can’t seem to get those words Nicholas said to me out of my head. To make matters worse, they were expecting twins! The door creaked. Madam Lucia walked in, carrying a wooden box, and some ladies followed right behind her. She looked at me lying helplessly on the floor and chuckled. “We are here to get you ready,” she flatly said. “Get up. You stink.” I did not attempt to move, I just lay there. I lost the will to do anything. They grabbed my hand and dragged me to the washroom. Cold water splashed over my body, making my teeth chatter uncontrollably, as the iciness of the water stung my skin. One of the girls loudly gasped, stepping away in fear. I turned to see what was wrong, it was the new girl. She seemed frozen. Her eyes were glued to my back. My mark? "Hey you," Madam Lucia called out to her but she didn't budge. "HEY!" She shouted once more, still no response. "Drag her out," Madam Lucia commanded. Just before she was dragged out, her eyes snapped to mine. What was that all about? Then everything went back to how it was as the other girls roughly scrubbed my body. Once they were done, they applied ointment to the injuries on my back, wrist, and legs. Madam Lucia walked back in and threw a dress at me. “Put it on. Alpha Drax will be here any moment.” I stared at the dress in front of me. It was one of Jenny’s old gowns. Despite the fact that it was old, it was truly beautiful. I felt sick putting it on, I didn’t want to wear one of her dresses, let alone dress up for a terrible man. But I had no choice. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I reluctantly wore the dress, with a broken heart. "You see that thing coming out of your eyes? Stop It." She plainly said. "Get back to work now! Everybody." Once more, they roughly handled my hair, tying it so tightly that my scalp hurt. They applied light makeup on my face and did everything to make me look presentable, and also tried to hide the bruises by all means. I just sat there letting them do their thing. Seeing myself in the mirror I couldn’t believe it. I looked flawless as though I was well taken care of. "You look beautiful," One of the girls muttered. Then immediately closed her mouth with her right hand when she realized she just spoken. Madam Lucia gave her a death glare. “Let’s go,” she said coldly. My knees were still trembling as I followed them through the hall. The closer we got, the noisier it became. We finally reached the hall. All eyes were on me, some whispered, some laughed, and some just genuinely stared. My presence drew attention I never wanted. Which made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and anxious. Minutes later, went back to normal. People continued with what they were doing, the place was buzzing with activities. I still received glances here and there, but at least their attention was divided. They were all preparing for Alpha Drax’s arrival. What I didn't get was why they would do so much for someone they all hate. There must be something behind this arrangement, that's making them go all out. Or were they just scared? "Bring them over here."Jenny was giving orders to the omegas, once she noticed me, she exchanged an unknown look with Madam Lucia, and then I was dragged to the corner of the hall. My eyes went to Alpha Nicholas who was talking to some people. Why was it that the rejection affected me and not him? Did his wolf not feel the pain of rejection? Or was it because I never rejected him? My eyes became watery once more, but I refused to let the tears out, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of watching me break in front of everyone. My Father was busy with some of the council members, and the Gamma. The beta was nowhere to be seen. Jenny walked to stand beside my stepmother, glowing with satisfaction. Nichola’s eyes and mine finally met. His eyes widened when he noticed it was me. He looked stunned. He placed his drink down, taking a step forward. When Jenny noticed him, she immediately walked up to him, pulled him back, and placed his hands on her stomach as she whispered something to him. I looked towards my step mom and back at them, wondering how she got to him so fast. His expression, and an annoyed Jenny, gave me a little sense of satisfaction. Then suddenly, the doors opened, making the room as quiet and cold as a graveyard. The Beta walked in, but he wasn’t alone, he was with Alpha Drax. The most handsome, yet terrifying man l’d ever seen, towering at over six feet tall. His physique gave off raw power, and his presence a chilling aura. His hair was black as coal, a well-shaped angular face with blue eyes that made him stand out more. His presence was enchanting, yet dangerous. It was giving a wolf in sheep’s clothing. When our eyes met, a gasp escaped my lips, and I could feel heat rushing up my cheeks. I didn’t understand if it was fear or something else, but my heart skipped a beat. My father walked up to him, to welcome him, but he completely ignored him. His eyes never left mine, and then, he began to walk up to me, as though he knew I was the one he came for. I gradually stepped back, not knowing what to do. I looked around, and everyone’s eyes were fixed on us. He stopped a few feet away from me and released a deep aggressive growl. My legs gave out, and I fell hard onto the floor.Lyra’s Pov I couldn’t believe both of them. I had a feeling she had a hand in the dress incident, and now she just confirmed it. Not to talk of how fast she switched up when she saw alpha Drax. She truly wants to be picked by all means. I stared at Alpha Drax wondering if truly he harbored great feelings for her, and if he will truly dispose of me if the curse doesn’t so she could raise my child. He’s not just mean, ruthless, scary, but also a manipulative, two faced man? What was I expecting? I felt so irritated. He truly is a sccum. I quickly looked away when our eyes jammed. I could still feel his burning into my skull. It quickly became awkward in no time. Thankfully, Lucas and his date arrived just in time. “I’m sorry I took so long in the restroom Lyra, it was so strange, the door was jammed somehow.” Evo said, as she adjusted her gloves. “Deliberately,” I whispered, having a strong feeling that Ashley was behind it. “What was that?” She asked, and the three of them
Lyra’s POVMy entire body forgot how to function properly after the kiss. I could still feel the warmth of his lips on my head. What was that all about? I swallowed hard, forcing my eyes forward trying to compose myself, but my heart kept on racing. His league is far above mine. I kept reminding myself of his position. He is one of the strongest Alpha’s alive, and I am nothing but a breeder to him. But it was impossible to ignore the weight of his presence besides me. His behavior was alarming, I mean, instead of this sharade, he could just complete the ceremony, use me for the purpose I’m here for, and then discard me. I closed my eyes once I felt his breath for the second time . “Shall we?” He whispered into my ears, so low only I could hear. “Shall we what?” The faint murmur snapped me back to reality. Oh right!I gently took his hand into mine with a smile, as we walked in. Several people bowed to Alpha Drax, and they just stared at me,like they’ve never seen a lady, wh
Lyra’s POV I stood there for a long time after the call ended, the phone still pressed against my ear even though the line had already gone dead. Slowly, I lowered it. The room felt quieter than before. Too quiet. His words lingered in my mind. “Everyone needs to think we are infatuated with each other.” A dry, almost disbelieving laugh slipped from my lips before I could stop it. How does he think this would work? No one would believe it. How exactly are we to convince everyone? My gaze drifted down to the sleek black card, resting in my palm. An unlimited card for me?It felt so unreal holding this. Never have I had the privilege to, and never did I think I would. For a brief moment, my fingers tightened around it. I exhaled slowly. “I don’t need this,” I whispered. Maybe that wasn’t entirely true, but I needed it to be. Walking over to the dresser, I opened one of the drawers and placed the card inside, shutting it firmly. I wasn’t going to become someone who relies
Lyra’s POV After the meeting, Elder Accalia pulled me aside, she cupped my cheeks, her lips curved into a small smile. “You seem like a good girl. You can always come to me if you need someone to talk to.” I nodded my head. “Thank you Elder Accalia.”“One more thing.” She gently lifted my face. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow. “What could that be?”“Now that we’ve had the talk, and confirmed the ceremony’s date–” “Wait, when’s that again?” I asked.“It will be held in four days,” she said, tapping my shoulder, and then walked off.I followed after, but a familiar figure caught my attention. “Lucas!” I called out, waving my hands, but he didn’t respond. I pouted in annoyance. I thought werewolves had heightened hearing. I’m certain he saw me. Just then he disappeared.I ran up to where he stood, and there was a passage with two massive doors. My mouth dropped at the sizes.I tried to open the first one, but it was locked. I walked up to the second door, and gently pushed i
Lyra’s POV I violently jolted from the bed, my hands flying straight to my face. My skin felt normal. My breath came out in short bursts as my eyes darted around the room. My heart hammered so loudly against my ribs it hurt. I was still in bed. Everything seemed normal. It all looked the same except for the sunlight slipping through the curtains. I slowly exhaled. “It was just a dream,” I murmured to myself. My fingers brushed over my cheeks again, just to be certain. Nothing. Still, the uneasiness refused to leave my chest. I pushed the thought away and forced myself to get up from bed. Nemona would probably arrive soon. I hurried to the washroom. Cold water splashed against my face, clearing the last fog of sleep from my mind. When I finished bathing, I wrapped a towel around my chest and stepped back into the room. Just as I was about to reach for the dress I laid out– Ding. For a moment, the dream I had flashed through my mind. Don’t be ridiculous, Ly
Lyra’s POVThe door opened, the younger maid rushed in, her footsteps quick and uneven as she hurried towards me. In her hand was a first aid kit and clean white towels. “I’m so sorry!” She blurted out the moment she reached me. Concern immediately flooded her expression, when she saw the state I was in. “What are you sorry for?” I asked. “Aren’t you injured?” She asked, scanning my body. “Your head? Or back?”I hesitated before responding. “Aside from my previous injuries, and the ache all over my body, I don’t think I am.” She knelt down beside me and used a warm white towel to press against my injuries, and applied ointment on my wounds and bruises. “You have a blood trail on your neck. Luckily that’s all to it,” she said, then began to clean my neck with the white cloth.“I’m not sure how,” I mumbled, wondering how the blood got there. “Why are you wearing that? You are not to wear that, at least not until the bonding ceremony,” she said, her tone tightening as her eyes fli
