Chapter 002 How Do We Get Past The Guards?

Darrell

All the things Christopher had said really got to me and I knew I had to make some things clear for myself. First, I needed to speak with my father because he was the only one I could go to for all the information I needed, and also ask his permission to see my mother. She was the only parent who cared about me. My father never really cared. He has always been a selfish person. A lot of times, I curse the goddess for sending me to such a family. But I guess, you can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends. I had a few friends, Christopher was the best of them. We practically grew up together.

We got to my house and luckily, we found my father in the living area with Delta Bernard. They were discussing in low voices, like they didn't want the walls to hear what they were saying; which was why they were jumpy when they saw us. Actually, my father saw me first and tapped his Delta who then turned back to look at us. I was a bit surprised by their reactions but I paid it no mind at the moment. I was hoping to meet my father alone to have this conversation with him. I was still determined to have it alone with him regardless.

"Good afternoon father, Delta Bernard," I greeted them getting closer to where they were seated. Christopher did the same, coming to stand beside me but I noticed he kept his face down, probably as a sign of respect or just fear; I didn't know for sure.

"What do the two of you want?" my father replied without acknowledging the greeting. But Delta Bernard nodded to me and Christopher. My father had never truly cared for anyone except his ego and societal status. Ever since I can remember, he had never shown any form of affection to me or my mother. I have always wondered if he had no emotions because he showed none when my mother was accused; he was quick to throw her in jail even though she hasn't been proven guilty. She is a Luna for goodness sake! He didn't have to treat her the way he did. Even though she isn't the best person in the world, he could have at least kept her under house arrest instead of locking her up in a common cell.

"I would like to speak with you father" I finally replied to his question.

"About what?" he asked.

"Can your Delta kindly excuse us?" I was determined to get rid of him.

"You want my Delta to excuse us while you have someone with you? If you want to have a private conversation with me, then your friend should excuse us as well, otherwise my Delta stays here" he argued. He had a valid point, I guess; which meant I had to say what I needed to say with everyone in the room.

So I began "Alright then. It's about my mother. I need to know if she really did what she's been accused of. I cannot wait to find out at the same time as the rest of the pack members. She is my mother and I need to know the truth so I can know how to protect her" I blurted it out. I looked at Christopher who then gave me a half smile as if to say "that's right". I then faced my father who still had no expression on his face.

"Protect?" he asked, with a puzzled look on his face. "Protect her from what exactly? And how do you intend to do that if she's found guilty, because even I wouldn't be able to do that if that turns out to be the case. And if she's innocent, then there will be need for protection so what are you talking about, boy?" He said. He had avoided the important part of what I said by asking me that question but I wasn't going to let that go easily. I just wanted to see my mother.

"Is she innocent?" I asked him. He didn't reply to me at first which made me ask again "is she innocent, father?" he looked at me and then at Christopher and he finally said "I have important issues to deal with Darrell, leave the matter alone". Did he just say "important issues"? So my mother was not important? How could he even say something like that at a time like this. Did he really feel nothing at all for the woman he married?

"She's your mate! Don't you feel anything for her? Is she not important to you?" I screamed out of anger and frustration. Even Delta Bernard was surprised at my father's reaction but he kept it to himself and I could understand why. I wondered what they were discussing before we walked in on them.

"Boy, you better watch your tone with me!" he roared at me with his Alpha authority. "You do not want to force my hand. I am handling the situation. Now leave us" he finished and attempted to dismiss us, but I needed his permission to see my mother.

So I asked him "can I at least see her?" Letting me see her was the least he could do for me and I hoped to the goddess that he would oblige me.

"You know that is not possible, moreover you'll see her during trial so just forget about that. If there's nothing else, I'd like to return to work now" he said. I was not satisfied but there was nothing more I could say or do that would make him change his mind at the moment, so I decided to leave. I signaled Christopher and we left them.

As we were walking out, I linked Christopher "I do not need my father's permission to see my mother. I am going to see her tonight, Chris, one way or another" I looked at him and I could tell he saw the determination in my eyes because he looked scared. He linked me back.

"I'm with you Darrell, I just hope to the goddess that we do not get in trouble with whatever we would be doing to make sure you see your mother". I understood his worry but I was also grateful for his support. I am glad to have him as a friend, and a true one at that; you can not say that about everyone. Now we need to come up with a plan to see my mother. How do we get past the guards?
