Chapter 004 Darrell's Call

Christopher

Darrell and I have been friends ever since we were little kids and we have grown to become more like brothers. We have always had each other's backs in tough times and also whenever either or both of us got into trouble. Seeing him go through a lot of emotions because of his mother's situation touched me deeply, he needed emotional support at a time like this and I would be there for him.

I couldn't help but wonder why his father, the Alpha, would not let him see his own mother. No matter the crime one has committed, their loved ones should be allowed to see them. Not allowing people see their loved one who have been put in prison seemed unfair because if that person is found guilty of the crime they were accused of, they get either the death penalty or the life sentence. And they are usually taken to a different confinement when they get the life sentence.

We would not be here trying to break the law if the law was fair to begin with. Darrell needed to see his mother, the only parent who truly loves and cares about him, and I was going to help him. I hoped that he would be successful with the sedatives; I was quite curious as to how he was going to go about it but he only said he had his 'resources'. I hoped his resources would come through for him.

After waiting in hiding for about 25 minutes, the person who usually brought food to the guards finally showed up. He was an omega so I knew I would have no problem getting him to comply. I quickly brought out my phone to take his picture and saw that my phone battery was very low. Before I could launch the camera app, the phone died on me. How could I have let this happen? "Damn it!" I said to myself. I started thinking of what to do next. I could not leave where I was to get a power bank because the omega would be gone by then, so I decided to do something a bit reckless.

I left my post at the oak tree and went to wait for the omega at the left side of the prison building where he came from. I was going to intercept him when he came out, so I stood there and waited. After about 5 minutes, he came out carrying a food flask.

He was stunned when he saw me but he still managed to greet me. "Good afternoon Beta Christopher" he said with a shaky voice.

"Good afternoon omega" I replied to him. "What is your name?" I asked him.

"Kingsley sir" he replied.

"Kingsley, what time do you take dinner to the prison guards?" I asked him.

"At 7pm sir" he replied.

"Alright Kingsley, bring out your phone and take my number, call me at exactly 6:45pm today. Do you understand?" I asked him. He brought out his phone looking confused and I typed in my phone number and asked him to save it as Chris.

"Am I in trouble sir?" he asked me.

"You are perfectly fine. As long as you do as I have instructed you and say nothing to anyone, you have nothing to worry about. Now off you go" I said to him and let him go.

For his sake and ours, I hoped he would not say anything about our encounter to anyone. I should pay more attention to my phone henceforth. What happened was embarrassing and I hoped Darrell would not be offended when I let him know what had just happened. I quickly left the area to go charge my phone battery. I made a mental note to get a power bank sooner than later. What I had done was an improvisation and I hoped it wouldn't come back to bite us in the ass.

I got to my father's house and ran straight to my room to plug my phone for it to charge. Good thing I had a fast charger; I switched it on the moment it got to 5%. A message came in from Christopher. I opened it and it read "I can't reach you, what is the update? Get back to me when you see this". I was about to text him back when my mother came into my room unannounced.

"Chris, honey, where have you been since morning? I have been looking for you. You've not had breakfast or lunch today. What have you been up to?" She asked, sounding worried.

I replied to her saying "I was with Darrell, mom. We were having an important discussion". She looked at me for a few seconds and eventually left. I texted Darrell to let him know that I had some luck finding the guy that takes food to the prison guards. He replied instantly:

"Good, I'll call you as soon as I get the sedatives. Stay by the phone"

I replied to him with a thumbs up emoji and went downstairs to get something to eat.

I took my food back to my room to eat up there. While I was at it, I decided to read a comic book. I have always enjoyed reading comics since I was a child. I picked up the newest one in my collection and flipped through the pages. Something the protagonist said caught my attention. It read:

"It does not matter how much time we have, if we are not making a change, helping one another and shining our light in a world as dark as ours".

Reading that line deepened my sensitivity and encouraged me to do all I can to help Darrell, and to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever I can and to whoever might need helping. I continued reading while waiting for Darrell to call.
