Sophia

The creaking of the stairs beneath our feet broke the heavy silence that hung in the house like a fog. Bright walked down beside me, without saying a single word, but his expression said it all. His face was gaunt, his lips pressed tightly together, his eyes fixed on some distant point, as if he were carrying an invisible weight that was crushing him from within. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, wishing with every fiber of my being that I could do something to take that pain away. But I didn’t know how.

I knew leaving early was the right thing to do. I couldn’t stand another second in that house where pain, anger, and indifference lingered like poisonous air. My chest burned from everything that had happened, but what hurt the most was seeing Bright like this: silent, frustrated, wounded… and alone. Because even though I was right beside him, he felt like everyone had turned their back on him.

When we reached the bottom of the stairs, we crossed the living room to gr

BrightI never thought a single night could feel so perfect, so full of everything I had hoped to share with her since I fell in love, and at the same time, so simple that it seemed like a dream come true. A real wedding, not like the first time.My eyes followed Sophia as she walked toward me in the hall we had improvised for the wedding. The wedding dress she wore made her glow in a way that left me nearly breathless, the delicate lace caressing her shoulders, the soft fabric draping over her rounded belly, and the veil framing her face like the princess she was. My princess. My queen.I watched her smile, illuminated despite the chaos. I couldn’t help but feel a pang of emotion. This was our second chance, and this time everything felt real. No secrets, no lies, no doubts separating us. Just us, our family, and the life she carried in her womb. The thought of the baby filled me with emotion because at last, I had created the family I never imagined having. To be a father, to protec

Sophia The reflection in the mirror showed me an image I still found hard to believe. I was wearing a long white dress made of light fabric that flowed in soft waves down to the floor, lace covering my chest, and sheer sleeves brushing gently against my arms. The veil rested on my loose hair, with a few strands escaping to frame my face. But the most striking thing wasn’t the dress, it was the rounded swell beneath the fabric: the life growing inside me, visible and firm, reminding me every second of how much everything had changed. My breathing was steady, though inside my chest my heart was pounding hard. I never imagined I would wear a wedding dress again. And yet here I was, in my room, getting ready to marry Bright, again. The love of my life. The man I never thought would come to mean so much to me. The man I had been through everything with. “You look beautiful,” came a soft voice from behind me. I turned slowly. My mother was leaning against the doorway, smiling warmly,

Sophia I woke up early in the morning. My belly was already noticeably round, a clear sign that the baby was growing quickly inside me. The sun streamed through the window, just like on most beautiful mornings. Today I felt slightly better. Hopeful. More at peace. Yesterday afternoon, the doctor James had hired came to the house to check that the baby was doing well. He brought his equipment and charged a good amount for the service. We didn’t want to leave the house, to avoid risks to the pregnancy, and because of Dante. Dante was still out there. Breakfast was light and quiet; Bright prepared my cup of tea, and James moved about the kitchen with that composed calm that always seemed to surround him. When I finished, I knew there was something in the air, a subtle electricity that made words stick in our throats. James asked in a low voice if we could go to the library. The word library sounded solemn, as if I were about to receive a verdict. I sat down without protest, resting m

Bright After making love, Sophia and I spent the entire day together, reconnecting and talking about the future. She was afraid, but she longed for a future with me, a happy, healthy one with our child. We spent hours talking about them. Sophia slept, her breathing soft and steady. I listened, making sure she was all right. Fear for her kept me awake because I needed to protect her. I set the coffee cup down on the nightstand, making no sound so I wouldn’t wake her. I wanted to talk to James. I knew he had gone downstairs because I heard him. I went down, hoping we could talk in peace. James was in the kitchen, his gaze clouded with thought. I saw him light a cigarette, even though neither of us smoked. He offered me one, pretending to share. “Smoking at this hour, James?” “Don’t you want one?” he asked, still holding the cigarette in his hand. I shook my head. “I don’t want your sister to smell the smoke when she comes back to bed. Because of the baby.” James nodded and pu

Sophia My mother and father were at the company. James and a group from the pack were out searching for Dante with the help of other packs. The rest of the pack surrounded the house, keeping watch. James had declared that I was in extreme danger because of Dante’s obsession. Dante... he was the one sending me those notes. His name echoed in my mind like an open wound. I couldn’t fully grasp it. I had believed in him —in his kindness, in his friendship— and now knowing he had been capable of so much harm tore at my soul. The sadness ran so deep it hurt to breathe, the pain of having trusted someone like him for so many years. Not just for what he had done, but for what he had once meant to us. For how hard it had been for me to believe Bright, for doubting him so many times. The sound of soft footsteps pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up and saw Bright coming in from the kitchen, carrying a tray of food in his hands. He had two plates and a calm expression, though his eyes stil

Sophia I was waiting for Bright to come back. Hours had passed since he’d left with James to interrogate the hunter. When I finally heard the door to the room open, my body reacted before my mind did. I turned around instantly. Bright was standing there, framed in the doorway, and for a moment all I could do was look at him. His expression was hard, browed, eyes dark, breathing heavy. His jacket was stained, and his hands... his hands were red. “Bright…” my voice came out weaker than I expected. “What happened? James told me you were with the hunter.” He closed the door behind him and stood still, not answering right away. It only took me a second to notice he was holding something back, anger, tension, pain... I couldn’t tell. But it was as if the air between us had thickened. When he finally spoke, his voice was low and rough. “He talked.” A shiver ran down my spine. “What... what did he say?” Bright drew in a deep breath before answering. “He confirmed what we suspected.
