Sophia

It was hard for me to get out of bed that morning. If it hadn’t been for my father hurrying me along, I would’ve been late for the meeting. Actually, I was late.

Dad said this meeting was important. He scolded me for waking up so late. I didn’t understand why it was such a big deal for him if we were only meeting with two lawyers from another firm. It wasn’t anything major. At least not compared to other meetings. But he kept insisting I hurry.

I nearly ran to the conference room, imagining I’d walk in and everyone would turn to look at me in annoyance, but when I entered with my notebook in hand and my laptop under my arm, I saw no one.

I frowned.

Not even James was there.

I called my brother to ask what was going on.

“Sophia?”

“James, am I in the right room? I went into conference room two and there’s no one here.”

“Sophia, the meeting starts in half an hour. Didn’t you see the message I sent you this morning?”

“No. Actually, Dad rushed me out of the house to get to the offic

Bright I didn’t like being here. They could smile, greet me enthusiastically, pat me on the back like they’d known me all my life, but something didn’t fit. Or maybe I was the one who didn’t fit.No matter how hard I tried to look relaxed, my body was tense, like I might have to go into defense mode at any second. It wasn’t really about them, at least not directly. It was the feeling of being surrounded by strangers, by a system that didn’t belong to me.This wasn’t my pack. Not really, even if it was officially now.The welcome had been loud, full of excitement. Voices, laughter, werewolves slapping each other on the back, joking around, forming an invisible web of bonds I wasn’t part of yet. They greeted me warmly, asked about my story, wanted to include me… but none of that could silence the emptiness in my chest. I missed my pack. I missed the forest where I grew up, the house that no longer existed, and the familiar faces. I even missed the arguments with Thomas, because t

Sophia Another day. The day of Sabrina's funeral. But Bright hadn’t wanted to talk about it.The sun had only just started to peek through the windows when we woke up. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time. It wasn’t a formal event, but I couldn’t help wanting to look good.Today was Dante’s official welcome into the pack, and he would be introducing us to everyone. It was strange to think about. Just a few days ago, Bright and I were still full of doubts, caught in a web of fears, threats, and rushed decisions. And now… we were part of something new. A new pack. A new life.Bright was in the other room, finishing getting dressed. His furrowed brow betrayed his tension. Even though he was the one who called Dante, the one who made the final decision, he didn’t like being here. He was doing it for me. For the baby. To protect us."Are you ready?" he asked, appearing in the doorway. His voice sounded a little dry, but his eyes softened when they met mine.I nodded with a faint

Bright The clock on my nightstand read 6:29 a.m., and I knew I wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep. My head was spinning with thoughts. My heart was heavy with anguish and sorrow. Pain. Sabrina... So many memories. So many things are lost in such a short time. I was going to lose my mind. After last night... I couldn’t just do nothing. I didn’t like it, but I knew I had to do it. I took Sophia’s phone while she was still asleep beside me. Her breathing was soft, her face peaceful, as if what had happened last night didn’t weigh on her like it did on me. But I couldn’t sleep. Not after what I had read. That note was still burned into my mind like fire on skin:“I know you’re alone now, and you will die soon, Bright. Your time will come sooner than you think.”My hands were still trembling. That threat wasn’t just a warning. It was a message. A promise. And I wasn’t about to take the risk of it becoming real.I dialed Dante’s number, the one I had saved without telling Sophia. He ans

BrightThe violent crash of shattering glass ripped us out of sleep like a nightmare turned real. My eyes snapped open, my heart pounding wildly in my chest. Sophia, lying beside me, shot up too, her face pale and her eyes wide with panic."Did you hear that?" she whispered, her voice trembling.I nodded, my jaw clenched tight. A second noise followed —louder this time— something metallic crashing to the floor downstairs.I jumped out of bed, adrenaline flooding my system, but Sophia grabbed my arm before I could take another step."Don’t go down there, Bright. We don’t know who it is. It could be dangerous!""Stay here," I said firmly, already scanning the room for anything I could use as a weapon."No," she insisted, her grip tightening. "What if something happens to you? What if… if it’s someone like the ones who killed Sabrina?"Her voice cracked, and tears welled up in her eyes.My chest ached, but I couldn’t stay still, not when there was a possible threat in our home. Not while

Sophia Tension completely took over our home when Dante finished speaking. His words still hung in the air like a thick, dense fog, difficult to dissipate. Bright didn’t say a word. He stood rigid, arms crossed, eyes fixed on Dante with a mix of disbelief, annoyance, and challenge.I stood between them, feeling how the air was growing heavier with each second, as if a single spark could set everything off.Dante had come to my house worried about what had happened with Sabrina, but that wasn’t the only reason. He had brought an unexpected proposal, one that echoed in my head like an unrelenting drumbeat: join his pack. Accept his protection. His leadership.I didn’t know what to say at first. Seeing Bright so serious, so distant, so hurt by everything we had gone through in the last few days... it paralyzed me. But there was also fear. The fear of not having a safe place. Of being unprotected. Of not being able to protect my child.“What do you want, Dante?” Bright finally asked, bre

Bright The silence in Sophia’s house was so thick I could barely hear my own breathing. The door closed behind me with a dry click, like a final warning that there was no turning back. The silence of our home was so heavy I could barely hear myself breathe. The door shut behind me with that same final click, unmistakable, irreversible. The house was warm, peaceful even, but I felt cold in my chest, a heavy weight that had settled there since the conversation with James. We had been cast out. Her too. And no matter how hard I tried to stay upright, to stay strong, my soul cracked every time I looked at her, every time I remembered that her entire life, everything she had ever known, had also collapsed because of me.Then I saw him.Dante was standing in the center of the living room, as if the place belonged to him, arms crossed, watching the staircase. When he noticed me, he turned his head slowly, like he’d known I was coming all along. His expression was calm, composed, but I c
