Sophia

The bed felt so comfortable, and I realized just how much I had missed sleeping in a familiar bed. I needed rest like that.

A ray of sunlight slipped through the window of my room. I still wanted to keep sleeping, but not with the sun shining directly on my face. I had forgotten to close the curtains.

My eyelids felt heavy, but a strange sensation in my body made me wake up. Something was different. Something didn’t fit. Something felt off.

I blinked a few times as my eyes adjusted to the light, letting me see the person next to me. Literally, right next to me. In the same bed. Both of us.

Bright was lying next to me. What was he doing there with me? Why had we shared the same bed?

I thought about it.

My heart skipped a beat from the shock, and I had a faint memory of the first time we had been together. I froze, holding my breath as I watched him sleeping. He hadn’t realized I was awake and startled to see him.

Bright was lying on his back, eyes closed, completely asleep. He l

Sophia Bright wasn’t here. He was in a meeting with several key members of the pack. James didn’t let me go because I had nausea and dizziness. He ordered me to stay in bed and rest, and Bright ordered the same. I wanted to be there, but it wasn’t a good idea. I knew I could find strength somewhere to attend, but the guys were firm in their answers. There was a knock at my bedroom door. “Yes, come in.” The door opened cautiously, and to my surprise, it was Mom who entered, holding a tray full of food. My stomach growled at the sight of it. I hadn’t realized how hungry I was, but my appetite kicked in immediately. The delicious aroma of freshly baked French toast surrounded me and woke up all my senses. I sat up in bed right away, setting the TV remote beside me. I smiled. “Did you make that, Mom?” I asked with a tired smile. “I didn’t, but it was Bright’s idea to buy it,” she said sweetly, placing the tray on my lap. “He’s in a meeting with the pack and gave me money to go buy i

Sophia The tension in the air had returned. We were once again in the presence of my brother, who had finished his business and came back to the room as we had agreed. I didn’t expect him to come so soon, and I thought I’d feel more relieved during the second part of the conversation, but I wasn’t. I felt just as nervous and uncomfortable with him there. Something told me he was going to get angry. He could barely handle the idea that I was pregnant with Bright’s child after our divorce.James stood leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, waiting for us to say what we had to say. And what we had to say was harder than I thought. It was serious, especially during a pregnancy.Bright was next to me, standing. I was sitting on the bed, watching James watch us. He closed the bedroom door, pulled the chair from my desk, and sat in front of us, waiting. He knew he was about to hear something unpleasant."As you can probably guess... we didn’t call you here just to talk

Bright It wasn’t a surprise to me how James reacted when he saw us face-to-face and we told him his sister was pregnant. I knew he wanted it to be a lie, but it wasn’t, and we had to face it. Ever since I found out, I’ve had days to process the news, and I could no longer imagine a world where Sophia wasn’t pregnant with our child. I loved that baby. I loved him so much that I didn’t even understand why. It was a feeling, a kind of love, unlike anything I’d ever felt before. A love so protective it tore my heart out of my chest. I could handle his anger, even if he was my alpha, and as uncomfortable as it was, I could handle his fury. But the way he looked at Sophia? I didn’t like that. And that I couldn’t tolerate. Sophia already felt guilty enough about our past, and I didn’t want her shoulders carrying more weight. This was between her and me. We were going to deal with it together, no matter how hard it was. James only needed to help keep her as safe as possible. Our mission w

SophiaBright and I had woken up early as we had agreed, and he had his arm around my body as if we were still together. I didn’t notice when he placed his arm around me during the night, but I’m sure that, unconsciously, it helped me sleep better. Bright quickly removed his arm from around me when he realized what he was doing and pretended nothing had happened. He didn’t realize that I had noticed, or that I had woken up before he did.I woke up earlier than him because I couldn’t stop thinking about the conversation we were about to have with my brother.I felt empty when he stopped touching me, but it was a reminder that things still weren’t completely right between us. There were still unresolved issues we needed to talk about, or at least that’s what I hoped, just to hold on to the idea that someday everything between Bright and me could be resolved positively. After a few minutes, I turned to look at him, pretending I had just woken up.I turned slowly, nervous about facing his

BrightThere was no one else I could focus on but Sophia. I spent the entire day around her, making sure she was okay.I took her to the medical check-up to make sure everything was fine with the baby, brought her tea into bed, and asked her a thousand times how she was feeling and if she needed anything. I was afraid of overwhelming her with my presence, but I didn’t know how else to do this.I could see how fragile and, at the same time, how strong Sophia was… It confused me how she could endure so much. She didn’t say anything, but I saw her trembling when no one was watching, while the world was eating her up inside. At times, Sophia tried to stay strong, but I could see how broken she was inside. Fear was paralyzing her, but she was trying to relax. Still, I saw her. I saw everything within her. I saw beyond the mask she tried to wear.I wanted to take her far away from the city. I wanted to get away from all this madness. I wanted to escape the city and... Dante. He was a ghost

Sophia I had my gaze fixed on an unimportant corner of the room. I was lost in thought while the photo that had been sent rested on my lap, doing nothing but reminding me that the world —my world— was far too dangerous to bring a baby into it. We werewolves lived under constant threat, one that had shattered the peace we had built decades ago.Bright was with me and told me that in the morning we would talk to James and tell him everything, and even though a part of me knew it was the right thing to do, the other part screamed in silence that I still wasn’t ready to tell the world I was pregnant. Not just because I feared what he might say about how complicated things were, but because saying it out loud would be admitting I had made a huge mistake by leaving Bright for Dante. I had obsessed over Dante for years, convinced he was my one true love, and I never allowed myself to see that there was someone truly special right beside me. But I played with Bright while I was confused and
