Her words slammed into me, and I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop from crying out. But I felt Nix pushing to the surface, something I had felt a million times, but she never broke through. My eyes must have shifted because Shannon laughed.

“Look at how pathetic you are. You are a Luna that can’t even shift, and you thought Brandon would be faithful to you? I think that was your second mistake.”

“My second?” I couldn’t stop the question.

Shannon’s eyes shifted to her wolf’s. “The first was thinking you could take my mate for yourself.” Shannon looked to the doctor. “Let’s go. Your Alpha and Luna have commanded you to cut the whelp from her stomach.”

The doctor struggled with the few steps back to my side. “The pup is still young. You wouldn’t be able to smell whose pup it is for another week or so.”

Shannon growled low. “I already know the truth.” Her hand snapped out and grabbed the doctor. “She is a whore who slept with multiple males to get pregnant.” She slammed their joined hands down, forcing the silver scalpel deep into my arm, earning a scream from me. The doctor tried to pull away, but Shannon tightened her grip on his hand. “Are you committing treason and refusing your Alpha’s orders?”

The doctor shook his head. “This wasn’t what he commanded me to do.”

Shannon growled before she ripped the blade out of his hand. “Grab another and cut the pup from her stomach.” She looked down at the blade in her hand.

“What are you going to do?” His voice was soft as he turned and grabbed a new knife.

“Whatever I want.” She turned and trailed down the table towards my feet, slicing through my skin as she went.

The scream I let out shook the room; the echoes bounced off the walls. The doctor winced as he moved to my stomach, but by the time he started cutting with a regular blade, the silver started to eat away at my sanity. I was on fire, my blood was boiling under my skin, and my bones were melting into lava. I gasped, and the doctor stopped moving. “I’m sorry.” He whispered the words, and I just shook my head.

“Not you.” I gritted out. My eyes cut to where Shannon was down by my feet, slicing into the soft pads of my toes.

He nodded once and turned back to what he was doing. “Almost there.” He whispered to himself, and I started to cry. My pup was being ripped from me, and I had no way to stop it from happening.

“Please don’t do this.” My voice was raw from the screaming. “He’s your pup.” I bellowed out last.

Brandon’s dark laughter came from outside the room. “Get it done.” The command rushed into the room, and still the doctor fought it. Shannon growled and grabbed his hands again, cutting deeper into my stomach. My vision flickered again, and my consciousness started to float away again until Shannon cried out in victory. She held my tiny pup in her hands.

The doctor staggered back as Shannon threw my pup to the ground. That was it for me. Nix surged, and I ripped out of the straps holding me to the table and grabbed for a discarded scalpel. The pain that had become my entire being faded as I lunged for Shannon.

The door slammed open, and Brandon surged into the room as I sliced across her throat. Blood sprayed onto his face as I collapsed to the ground. Blood poured from every wound. “Shan.” He dove for her as her knees buckled.

A croaking sound was the only thing she could make as he clutched her to his chest. But I ignored them as I pulled my failing body over to the body of my pup. I gathered his tiny form into my arms, and I rubbed my cheek against his, imprinting his scent on me. Shannon’s eyes flashed as her body worked to heal her throat. “Your pup is dead, you're dying, you think this does anything?” Her hand clutched her throat. “I’ll heal.”

I laughed as I clutched my baby to me and dropped the scalpel. “Not from silver.” Shannon paled as she realized her throat wasn’t healing. She clutched at Brandon, but his eyes were focused on the baby in my arms.

“He’s mine.” He choked out as he dropped my sister and stumbled over to my side. He dropped to his knees and leaned over me, scenting our pup. His eyes met mine, and then he threw his head back and roared. “He’s my pup.” He turned to the doctor. “Save my mate.” Then he turned to Shannon. “You lied to me.”

Shannon just laughed. “So what? You believed me.” Her eyes cut to mine.

The doctor came to my side, but he didn’t know where to start. I was losing too much blood. Brandon turned back. “Save my mate. Now!” He turned back to Shannon. “Then save the pup in her belly. It’s the only heir I have left.”

I choked on blood as I laughed. “She is pregnant with a girl…who was sired by the Beta.” Brandon stomped over to where Shannon collapsed and grabbed her by the throat. Blood coated his arm.

“Tell me she is lying.” But Shannon just laughed.

“I can’t.” She spat in his face as the light faded from her eyes.

He dropped her body and then rushed to my side. “We can have another pup. Just stay.”

I shook my head. “Fuck you.” The doctor tried to stop the bleeding, but I used the last of my strength to scream a command. “Stop.” The two men froze.

Brandon fought, but he couldn’t get past my command. “Guards!” He bellowed, pulling men in from the other room, but I felt my heart stutter. “Save her.” His eyes pleaded. “Let me save you.”

I laughed again. Blood speckled his face. “I would rather die than spend one more day being your mate.” He winced, but I rubbed my face against my pup again. “I love you, my pup. I’m sorry Mommy couldn’t save you.”

I closed my eyes, and I was free.

“Ugh.” A groan from behind the chair had me slapping my hand over my mouth. “Are you trying to kill me, pup?”“I’m sorry.” I looked at my dad, but he was currently bent over, dying of laughter. “Dad?”“Did you see how far he fell back?” Tears were trailing down his cheeks as he cackled. “Rude.” Ronnie stood and dusted off his shirt. “The both of you are rude.”“I really didn’t mean it to do it.” I turned to my dad. “What did I do wrong?”“Well, for one thing, you definitely weren’t thinking about the size of the wisp. All your power rushed to fulfil your wish, and it was as big as it could get.” My dad wiped his eyes and his laughter finally trailed off. “But Ronnie, you know it doesn’t cause harm.”“I know, but I have never seen one that big, and it scared the shit out of me. Sue me.” Ronnie settled back into the chair. “Try to picture it the size of a softball.” My dad motioned me to try again. I closed my eyes. “Iccas lumin torcanta.” I pictured the light a lot smaller than befo

“A Lycan?” I traced my finger over the picture. “I thought they were extinct.”“Most are. Only one left is the king.” My dad pulled the book away from me and switched back to the page he had originally settled on. “Lycans have two forms. A wolf, much bigger than a normal werewolf. And a half human half wolf form, like the ones you see in the movies. Weres can partially shift, but nothing that comes close to the wolfman form.” He pushed the book back in front of me. “Now I want you to focus on this spell and try to create a wisp without losing the change in your scent.”“A wisp?” I looked at the page and skimmed it. It was a step to step spell on how to create a wisp of light. A spell useful for seeing in the dark and one that doesn’t create heat so you can hold it for long periods of time without being burned. “Yeah, this was the first spell I learned from my grandmother. She said it is the safest option as a wisp has no way to ‘burn down the village’.” He smirked as his eyes took on

“Grandma.” My dad stood and went to grab for her but she held up her hand. “I’m not here, boy-o. Not really here. She pulled me to you with that.” She pointed to the book.“Your book of shadows. I thought it was lost.” He turned back to the book and hovered his hands over it. “It wasn’t lost, it was hidden.” She looked over at me and smiled. “It was found by who it was meant to be found by.” She walked over and hovered her hands around my father’s face, almost cupping it. “I’ve missed you. But I can’t stay. Watch out for the darkness.”“I love you.” His whisper was soft.“And I you.” She leaned down to kiss his forehead, and then she was gone.He looked over at me and I could see the devastation there. “You met her?”I nodded. “She helped me find myself, my inner self, anyway, so that I could find my power. Even then, the Moon Goddess had to give me a push.”“You met the moon goddess?” Ronnie lept up and rushed over.“I don’t actually know.” I lifted a shoulder and looked back at my

“Okay. Now let’s try removing your scent all together.” My father tossed out and I had to think. What removes a smell from the air, other than air fresheners or candles?“I know this will sound stupid…” Ronnie started, but I just scoffed.“I’m picturing a scented candle in my mind to protect me from my shitty mate. Something that shouldn’t work, and it’s just ridiculous. I don’t think we can get any worse.” He pointed at me and smiled. “True. I was just thinking, a vacuum. It sucks everything in.” I debated the idea.“It doesn’t have to be a perfect idea. Just something you can focus on while your power does the thing you need.” My dad stood and walked over to me. “It’s more about an outlet for your power to flow through. Your power will flow the way you intend it, but you need something to start it.”I closed my eyes again and pictured a vacuum in my clearing. I angled the hose up and plugged the vacuum into an outlet that appeared on the pot, and clicked it on. The noise was deafen

“Close you eyes.” I had barely wiped the sleep from my eyes when my dad sat me down in his office with Uncle Ronnie. I settled deeper into the chair and closed my eyes. “Now I want you to pull Nix closer to the surface until your eyes shift.“The wolfs bane?”“Won’t interfere. We waited the last two days to clear it from your system.” My father settled behind his desk. That made sense. I have been shut in my room for the last few days, doing my best not to shift. And staying clear of other wolves has been my saving grace. “Close your eyes Amy.” I nodded. “Once Nix is close to the surface, I am going to have Ronnie scent you. Once your scent has shifted, we can work on the next step.”“If Uncle Ronnie can scent me, won’t that screw me over?” I peeked out of one eye and my dad shook his head. “We won’t be shifting fully, just bringing Nix forward enough so we can tell when you manage cloaking yourself.” I closed my eye again and shook myself. “Nix, I need you to come closer.” I whispe

We made our way back to the house and into my father’s office before I saw anyone else. An omega brought in plates of rare steak. “Dad?” My stomach clenched looking at the meat. I couldn’t tell if I wanted it, or my body was rejecting the idea of eating it.“You need a lot of meat. You wolf is begging you to shift. It’s her time to shine now that the power portion has been handled. But you have things to worry about other than shifting, and this will help keep Nix under wraps.” He nudged the plate in front of me. “Try it. I know it probably doesn’t look appetizing, but I promise you, you will enjoy it.”I reached for a fork and knife, but my nails shifted to claws before I could wrap my fingers around the utensils. I snatched up the meat and tore into it, blood dripping from the meat. It was still so rare. Nix settled farther back into the forest in my mind’s eye, and Megan settled next to her. I’m sorry Amy. I seem to be losing control. Nix started to pace as I continued to tear int
