Kian

I stood among my family, my posture rigid as I tried to maintain my composure. The engagement ceremony was in full swing. I could not believe that Grandfather’s idea was actually materializing. There was nothing I had not done to change his mind in the last two months.

I had weeded out a majority of our opponents and secured more deals for us, all in the bid to make him change his mind.

But he remained adamant on the engagement. Nothing was going to make him change his mind. I forced myself to smile as the guests flickered around to offer their congratulations to me.

I had been in this game for far too long to know that half of them were not genuine. The was always a threat laced beneath each one of them. But the facade had to be kept on.

I gulped down the remnants of my glass which I had lost count of in frustration.

“Chill man.”, Darryl said eyeing my empty glass.

“The ceremony hasn’t even started.”

“I don’t give a damn about the ceremony.”

“I know you don’t but at l

Anya’s POVI gently closed my door and leaned against it with a sigh. I did not bother to turn the lights on, preferring to stay in the darkness. The only light that trickled in was the faint glow of the moon. Finally I was alone. Alone with my thoughts and feelings.I was engaged. Engaged to be married to Kian DaSilver. There was no turning back now. Not that I would have anyway.I let myself feel the ring that sat heavily on my finger. It felt foreign. An intrusion. Which was what it was exactly. An intrusion into the perfect bubble I once had.It was a white gold ring with a big diamond in the center sandwiched between two smaller diamonds.Under the soft glow of the moonlight it sparkled.I had to admit that it was beautiful.I wondered if Kian had chosen it himself. I would be surprised if he had.He hadn’t looked like someone who would be interested in going ring shopping for a bride he didn’t even choose. If I ever doubted that my fiancé disliked me today was a perfect reminder.

Chapter 11 : Engagement PartyAnya’s POVNo matter how much I wanted time to slow down,so I have more time to prepare, the two months came by two fast.It felt like the universe in itself was against me.It was the day of the engagement party. Even if I wanted to pretend as if I had forgotten about the engagement party, the immense decoration in the house wouldn’t have allowed me to.Mother was busy ordering the servants around, making sure the house was spotless and nothing went wrong. She paid no attention to me.I couldn’t tell if it was her own way of trying to lessen her guilt. The party was going to be a big celebration, a perfect statement to redeem ourselves as Father had put it.It was only right being that the The DaSilvers were a very respected and powerful family in our circles. The heads of other respectable families had also being invited. The thought of having to put up a fake smile and a show of excitement in the presence of all the many g

Anya’s POV‘You should listen to your brother Anya.Call this off while there’s still time.”Kian’s words were like ice that doused the heat in my veins. His words destroyed any semblance of hope and desire I had left in me for my imaginary fairytale.I had learned to trust my guy when it came to people, and my gut told me that Kian was as thrilled as I was about the marriage arrangement.I stared back at my reflection in the mirror which only radiated hopelessness.I knew I couldn’t stay longer in the washroom than I already had.I was surprised mother had not already come up to look for me.I was needed downstairs, the pawn of the game.Staring at the mirror one more time , I did what I had been trained to do all my life for the cameras.Closing my eyes, I tuned out all of the rampant thoughts and took in a deep breath.I opened my eyes and smiled at the mirror, my usual expression was back.At least for the few hours until the dinner was over , I was going to survive it.“There you

Chapter 9Kian’s POV.My eyes kept darting back in the direction of where Anya had scurried off to.I had meant to ask that question aloud because I needed her to turn around so she could see me.Watching her squirm and wanting to run gave me a great kick, that needed to be studied.I was pleased at the effect I had on her. And was ready to make her feel that way for the rest of her life being married to me.That was her punishment for being a pawn in my grandpa’s little game. Her punishment for making me break my SilverCode.I paid no heed to the discussion that was going on between her father Salvatore and grandpa.“ Where did she ran off to? And why was she not back?”, I thought to myself.“ Did I scare her too much that she did not want to come down anymore?”“ Already searching for your bride, huh?”, Darryl whispered behind my ear.“For someone who is not interested in this marriage, you seem quite taken up by her.”, he added. I did not have to turn to know that he had that sly

Anya’s POV I leaned against the banister to calm my nerves.“You survived it, Anya. Yes, you did.”, I muttered to myself.I could not believe my supposed husband to be was the cause of my current unnerved state. How was I expected to survive in a marriage with such a human. That is if he was one at all.His deep and cold emotionless voice still rang in my head. And that smirk he had on his face failed to disappear from my memory.“Anya?”My eyes shot up at the sound of mother’s voice from the top of the stairs. She stared at me with a quizzical look on her face.“ Why do you look so shaken up?”, she asked with concern.I grimaced at her question. Was it that obvious about how badly shaken up I was?My face gave her the answer to her question.“ He is here, isn’t he?”, she said with a slight tremor in her voice.I nodded my head in response.“ I have to go down before your father calls for me.Get yourself together child.”, she said as she walked past me.I watched her as she descended

Chapter 7Kian’s POV I could feel Grandpa’s eyes on me almost throughout the whole drive to the Moretti mansion. It felt as though he had something to say and was struggling to keep it down.I knew it was probably the fact that I had not stopped the car in the middle of the street to say I wasn’t going to go ahead with this anymore. Not that I had not thought of it. But the veiled threat Grandpa issued with the Capo seat, was the only thing keeping me in check.I hated the situation he put in me but I what I hated even more was the fact that I didn’t have the upper hand in it.“Fuck it!”, I mentally kicked myself for letting things get out of hand. There was no going back now.Soon we pulled up in front of the Moretti mansion. My fury wouldn’t let me appreciate the beauty of the place.Perhaps if a different occasion had brought me here I would have.I quickly got down ready to get in and get out of there in the shortest possible time.“You could at least school your expression like

Kian’s POVI stared at my reflection in mirror furious, that I was going through with Grandpa’s plan for me to get married.Surely there had to be another way around this. But my right hand man, Darryl and I had not been able to come up with a more feasible solution.“You really are not agoing to marry that girl now , are you?”, Darryl said without looking up from where he sat on my bed.His question made my skin tick. After my conversation with Don Silver he was the first person I called to help me come up with a better idea to give Don. “ I would shut up if I were you!”, I snapped.“ What would you have me do , huh”, I quizzed him pointedly.“ Defy Don??”, I asked incredulously.“ He threatened me with the Capo seat. Threatened to take it back. Surely you know that Don is the last person who will just say something like that.”“Surely, you are not going along with Don’s plan just like that, are you?”, Darryl asked with a skeptical look at me.My lips twitched, marveling at how well

Pingggg”, the notification sound from my phone cut through my reverie.“MEET ME AT THE HOUSE IN TEN.”I groaned inwardly at the curtness of the the message from my grandfather. He was the only one who knew how to get under my skin and not regard me with the safe fear as my men.Despite that, he’s the only person I show any ounce of emotion towards. The reason I still had a seat as Capo and an army of loyal men to lead. That is until I weed out all my enemies stirring up matters behind the scenes. This was all because of the my father and his disgrace of leadership as Capo. The mere thought of him was like bile in my throat.Tossing the remnants of my drink down,I picked up my keys and made way to the house to find out what the meeting with grandfather was about.“Boss.”, the men who littered the compound greeted with a slight bow as I switched off the engine. I responded with a light nod and make way into the building.“Grandpa?” I called out closing the door behind me. He stood at the to
