Jia's POV

I was done. Completely, absolutely, irreversibly done.

I stood in the hallway outside the dining room, my back straight and my chin high. Liam was blocking my path with his arms crossed and his face twisted into that ugly, controlling expression I used to be terrified of.

"Where were you last night?" Liam demanded, stepping closer. "I came to your room at eleven and the door was locked. You did not answer your phone. Who were you talking to?"

"I was sleeping, Liam." I met his eyes wit

The room went quiet. Jake was watching the exchange with the focused intensity of a man who was taking mental notes on every word being spoken and every expression being made. I could tell from the way his eyes kept moving between my face and Liam's that he had already picked up on the tension underneath the polite surface of our conversation. He knew about me and Jia. That meant he was watching me for personal reasons as well as professional ones. But I also noticed something else in his expression. He was watching Liam too. And the way he was watching Liam told me that Jake had started noticing the same things I had noticed.Mia sat through the entire meeting without saying a word. She watched all three of us the way a spider watches flies landing on different parts of the same web. Calculating which one to catch first. The meeting ended with me telling Liam that I would personally review the relevant accounts before any new spending was authorized. Liam agreed with a smile that did

Marcus's POVI spent the entire morning in my office with the door locked and the blinds drawn, going through every financial document my team had collected over the past two weeks. Spreadsheets covered my desk like a paper battlefield and each one told me the same story. Something in the numbers was not adding up.Three transactions across three different deals. The Austin acquisition, the Seattle logistics purchase, and the Boston medical equipment contract. Each one had figures that did not match the original budgets submitted to the board. The discrepancies were not massive enough to trigger automatic flags, but they were consistent enough to tell me that someone had deliberately adjusted the numbers before they reached the final reports.I did not want to believe it was Liam. I had raised him. I had trained him. I had handed him the Vice President title because I believed he was ready to carry part of the weight this family had been carrying for generations. Accusing my own broth

"I cannot guarantee how everyone will react." He reached out and tilted my chin up with his thumb the way he always did when he wanted me to look directly into his eyes. "But I can guarantee that I will never deny loving you just to make things easier for the people around us. I would rather lose every person in that family than stand in front of them and pretend you mean nothing to me."I stopped breathing. The words hit me so hard that everything else in the room disappeared for a moment and all I could see was his face and all I could feel was his thumb against my chin and all I could hear was the steady rhythm of his breathing mixed with the wild hammering of my own heart.I grabbed the front of his shirt with both hands and pulled him into me and kissed him with everything I had. His arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me off the desk and pressed me against his chest so tightly I could feel every beat of his heart pounding against my ribcage like it was trying to break throug

Jia's POVThe red mark on my palm was still stinging from where it had connected with Liam's face and I could still feel the ghost of his mouth forced against mine like a brand he was trying to burn into my skin. My lip was swollen from where my teeth had cut into the soft flesh when he grabbed me and the metallic taste of blood was still sitting on my tongue.Liam was standing three feet away from me with his hand pressed against his cheek and his eyes full of something that looked like a wounded animal deciding whether to attack or retreat. His jaw was working back and forth and I could see the muscles jumping under his skin like wires being pulled too tight."You are going to regret making things difficult, Jia." His voice was low and quiet and controlled in a way that was more frightening than screaming because it meant he had already decided what he was going to do next and was simply choosing when to do it. "You will always be mine. Whether you like it or not. And while we are s

"I came to take my wife to dinner." He walked in and set the roses on my desk like he was laying flowers on a grave. "There is a new Italian place on Fifth Street. Private dining room. Candles. The whole thing. I made a reservation for two.""I am busy, Liam." I pushed the roses to the side without touching them. "I have patients to see and notes to finish.""You are always busy." He sat down in the chair across from me and crossed his legs with the casual confidence of a man who believed every room he entered belonged to him. "I am trying here, Jia. I am trying to be a better husband. I am trying to show you that I can change. And every time I make an effort, you push me away like I am some kind of insect crawling across your dinner plate.""Because your effort is not real." I set my pen down and looked at him. "You are performing, Liam. You are putting on a show for everyone around us so that when I file for divorce, you can stand in front of the family and say look how hard I tried

  • Brother-in-Law, I’m Your Dirty Secret   CHAPTER 38 PART 1

Jia's POVMy lawyer's office was on the twelfth floor of a glass building downtown, far enough from the Collins mansion and far enough from St. Victoria's that I could sit in her leather chair and breathe without feeling like someone was watching me through the walls. Her name was Rachel Whitfield. Mid forties. Sharp eyes. Short gray hair that she wore like a crown instead of an apology. She had been handling high profile divorces in this city for over fifteen years and the first thing she told me when I walked into her office three weeks ago was that she did not care who my husband was or how much money his family had. The law was the law and the law was on my side."I have reviewed everything you submitted last week," Rachel said, sliding a folder across her desk toward me. "The financial disclosures, the joint account statements, the property records. Based on what you have provided, you are entitled to a significant portion of the marital assets acquired during the three years of
