On board

Monday, 7 am I woke up and saw the table was done and Z was putting the two cups of coffee on the table.

“Good morning Z” and I sat down and took a sip. I don’t know if I’m hungry or what but the coffee taste so good. I hold the cup and smell it again.

“Good morning my dear wife, shouldn’t you be the one who needs to do the cooking?” smiling at me

“I’m sorry; I will try it next time. You make a good coffee though.” And I took another sip

“Thank you, I worked as a barista for 3 years in Italy.” And he winked. He put an egg and ham on my plate, “You should eat a lot, today is your first day at work”

I almost forgot, I need to report at the office for my first day of work as an accountant to a local firm. Maybe the reason why they choose me is because aside from killing, I took accountancy course back then. And not to brag but I passed the board exam and was planning to take up law until I met James and get me into this job.

“What does my husband do for a living?” I gave him a sharp look

“You forgot? I am an online businessman, we got a buy and sell business”

“Very hard job.” I laugh

“Yes, aside from doing the chores and fetching my wife. I do some killings as well” he show me a picture of a man on his phone. “We need to find him this week”

After a good breakfast we went out and got into our car and for the first time I got a chance to look around the place where our house located. Old street with busy people walking and a little pastry shop one block away.

“I packed all your things needed, just try to look normal and drop this little ball inside your office.” And we headed forward. Autumn is almost over; the morning breeze smells like the sky will drop snow anytime. It’s October, three months before the year end. I’ve been away from my family for almost 5 years. I miss them during cold weather, on their belief that I was studying at France. I only send them mails and if I got a chance I drop them a call during holidays. But most of the time I am looking at them from distance from the lenses of my rifle. I’d love to hug them specially my mother and tell her every pain that I got from this trouble that I get into. But the reason why I get here holds me back. And it keeps me motivated.

“Here we are” He gets off the car and open the door for me. I took off and gave him a smile. He whispers in my ears. “It’s show time honey, eyes are everywhere.” before I could say a word I felt his lips touching mine, his bearded face adds tickle in me.

“I see you later” then I pretend to hide the nerves that was awaken inside of me.

In front of me is the key to everything that we are chasing in. Today I will practice my profession as an accountant. I walk inside the old building and went straight to the front desk, a lady in her 20’s approach me. “Good morning Ma’am, do you have an appointment?” without looking straight to my eyes I could still see her dark brown eyes matching her dark blue eyeshadow.

“Yes, Mr. Gilmore is expecting me today.” Finally she gave me a look and our eyes met, she looks so surprise to hear the name.

“You are Ms. Gray?”

“Yes.”

“Here is your I.D Ms. Gray, please proceed to the 8th floor and a lady named Rosie will be assisting you to Mr. Gilmore. Welcome to our company.” And she bow down with her hand pointing on the left side where the elevator is located.

“Thank you” I proceed and took a lift. As the door open at 8thfloor a short blonde woman wearing same dress as the girl on the front desk gave me a straight look and pinned her eyes on the I.D I was wearing.

“Hi Ms. Gray, I am Rosie, how is your day?” smiling with her powerful dark red lipstick. Her face curves a bit and I can see the fine lines she was trying to hide under her foundation.

“It was great, thank you for asking Rosie.”

“Mr. Gilmore is waiting for you, please follow me.” And we get inside passing across every cubicle with eyes following me. From the look of each person I could sense that I am inside an accounting office indeed. If it was not weekend yesterday I would think that they haven’t gone home yet. My eyes were caught by an empty cubicle with huge files on the table at the bottom right corner. I think that space was meant for me.

“Please get in Ms. Gray” Opening the glass door in front of me.

“Thank you Rosie” I get in and saw a man at mid-60s, withclean cut gray hair, wearing a black leather coat paired with white shirt inside. His chair was bent from the weight that was putted into it.

“Good morning Jane, take a sit.” I could sense his hardship in movement as he tries to point the chair in front of him.

“Good to see you Mr. Gilmore”

“Call me Will. I am glad you came here on time, I had high hope in you since you had an outstanding work experience in this field.” He lit a tobacco; unconsciously I wave my hand to take off the smoke from his tobacco.

“Oh, I’m sorry about the smoke.” He put his tobacco down and stood up. Finally I got a clear view of who am I talking with, he stand 6ft tall and gained a lot of weight over a years. His black slack were seems custom made matching his shiny black shoes.

“It’s okay Mr. Gilmore; it was just my muscle memory that does that action, I’m sorry. You can smoke since this is your office.” He walks near me and sit on the couch that was in front of me.

“No worries Jane, and again please call me Will. Mr. Gilmore makes me feel so old.” He laughs. The door crack open and a man wearing light blue sleeve and a black tie gets in. “Oh, you’re here.” Referring to the man

“Good morning Will, Hi Jane.” Looking at me with his blue eyes and very formal smile, his black hair that was glued neatly in his head makes him look weird. Good thing he is not wearing any eye glasses, which will surely complete his nerdy look.

“Jane, this is Frank. He will tell you everything you need to know about our job.” Waving his hand as if telling me to get off my feet and shake Frank’s hand. I stood up and about to offer a hand shake but he cut me off and open the door.

“I’ll take good care of her Will, take a good rest.” He nod his head as a sign for me to get off the room, before we close I door I managed to drop the first ball on Will’s office. The small device rolls fast and quietly as it touches the ground. Frank led me to the empty corner that I saw a while ago.
